00:00 There are loads of new games coming out right now
00:02 that are packed with fascinating little details
00:04 that are easy to miss.
00:05 That said, there's one game we can't help
00:07 but keep coming back to when we decide to take a look
00:10 at the most minor of details
00:12 that pretty much everyone missed.
00:14 And that's Rocksteady's 2015 action-adventure,
00:17 Batman Arkham Knight.
00:18 The fourth and final entry
00:20 into the mainland Batman Arkham series
00:22 was generally really well-received,
00:24 save for its massive technical stumble
00:26 with the PC version upon release.
00:28 The game is just packed with secrets and details,
00:31 and whilst lots of those have been uncovered,
00:33 Arkham Knight is the game that keeps on giving.
00:36 While obviously somebody has to have found
00:38 each of these details in order for me
00:40 to tell you about them,
00:41 here are a bunch of fascinating little tidbits
00:44 that almost nobody caught.
00:46 I'm Jess from WhatCulture,
00:47 and here are 10 tiny details
00:49 in Batman Arkham Knight everyone missed.
00:52 Number 10, you can spot militia helicopters.
00:55 Many of the tiny details I'll mention on this list
00:57 will sound super cool,
00:59 and if you did manage to find them,
01:00 you should be super impressed.
01:02 But if you didn't see them,
01:03 you're not receiving an inferior experience.
01:06 That said, this game goes deep,
01:08 and there are a plethora of incredible little details,
01:11 one of which can be seen by attentive players
01:13 right before bringing the Ace Chemical workers to safety.
01:17 Before getting underway,
01:18 you're told that militia forces
01:19 are deploying to the other island of Gotham City.
01:22 And if you look up,
01:23 you can actually see this for yourself.
01:26 Reddit user Pranklimulator posted a video
01:28 to the gaming details subreddit
01:30 showing themselves grappling to a high point in the city
01:33 where it's possible to watch the choppers
01:35 flying across the city
01:36 and descending to establish checkpoints.
01:39 Batman Arkham Knight may not have been
01:41 everybody's cup of tea,
01:42 largely because of that Batmobile,
01:44 but you can't deny that when you notice these little things,
01:47 you've got to appreciate the effort they put in.
01:49 Number nine, thugs break into vending machines.
01:52 You'd be forgiven for not loitering too long in Arkham Knight.
01:55 I mean, Bruce is a busy guy and there's a lot going down,
01:58 but if you do hang around,
02:00 maybe you'd like to take on
02:01 some neighborhood watch level duties
02:03 and make sure no vending machines are being vandalized.
02:06 Reddit user Edikaran Fauna discovered
02:09 that if you hang around long enough,
02:10 you can watch thugs struggle to get a freebie
02:12 from a vending machine.
02:14 Or maybe it ate his money, I don't know.
02:16 He'll eventually smash it with his foot
02:17 to get at the goods inside
02:19 before chucking the litter on the ground behind him.
02:22 Being that you're the Batman,
02:23 this seems like a totally sensible window
02:25 to execute that silent takedown
02:28 and exact your vengeance
02:29 in the name of the defenseless convenient snack location.
02:33 Number eight, thugs throwing cans, part two.
02:36 Since we're on the topic of thugs being thugs,
02:38 what they'd really love more than anything else
02:40 is to get their hands on the Caped Crusader
02:42 and give him what for.
02:44 Of course, for a lot of them, they're more of a melee bunch.
02:47 So if you're out of reach,
02:48 their behavior is pretty interesting.
02:50 If you stay on a platform for some time,
02:52 not only will they yell taunts at you,
02:54 generally of the chicken variety,
02:56 they'll also start throwing cans at you.
02:59 Hilariously, they're not all the best shots
03:02 and sometimes their attempts to chuck a can at you
03:04 will result in them hitting one of their buddies
03:06 with the tin surprise instead.
03:08 The thump will have his mate pull up his guard
03:10 with the intention of squaring off against his mate
03:13 before dropping it and turning his attention back to you.
03:15 This animation is displayed in all its glory
03:18 in a YouTube clip by O Knights O
03:20 and it's worth enjoying for yourself.
03:22 I think we can all agree this is far more entertaining
03:24 than just giving the thugs a generic idle animation
03:27 or having them rush your platform
03:28 waiting for you to get down.
03:30 Number seven, Officer Owens' Diner Demons.
03:33 At the start of Batman Arkham Knight,
03:35 you play Officer Owens,
03:36 one of the first victims of Scarecrow's fear toxin.
03:40 In fact, you get to experience the whole thing for yourself
03:42 and it is not a chill time,
03:44 as the name of the toxin would imply.
03:46 As the patrons in Paulie's diner morph into demons,
03:49 you'll get the opportunity to shoot at them
03:51 or not shoot at them while inside Owens' toxin-addled mind.
03:55 There's a few interesting tidbits here.
03:57 First off, the news report that plays out
03:59 directly after the incident will change
04:01 depending on whether or not you shot any of the patrons.
04:05 Similarly, when you're in the GCPD later on,
04:08 you can hear officers talking about Owens going to trial
04:11 and they'll say different things
04:12 depending on whether or not Owens took a shot at anyone.
04:15 For example, they might say that he has to go to trial
04:18 if he killed any of the patrons,
04:20 but they won't say this if you didn't kill anybody.
04:23 And the identity of the Arkham Knight himself
04:25 is teased in this scene as the first demon you speak to
04:28 had carved an A into the table.
04:30 Finally, the bodies of the waitress
04:32 and the man who asks you for help
04:34 can be found in the morgue
04:35 during the Shadow War expansion mission.
04:38 If you're a super fan who did notice all that,
04:40 consider me thoroughly impressed
04:42 and I will try and tell you something you don't know
04:44 before the video's over.
04:45 Number six, Batman needs help aiming too.
04:48 This is a fantastic addition to our growing roster
04:51 of tiny little details that show just how much love
04:54 Rocksteady put into this game,
04:55 but they wouldn't have damaged the experience at all
04:57 if they weren't implemented.
04:59 While using the disruptor gadget,
05:00 if you decide to take your eyes off the thing
05:03 you're actually pointing it at,
05:05 you might notice that Batman himself has a little live feed
05:08 so he can see what he's pointing at.
05:10 The picture in picture is too small for you to actually use
05:12 in any gameplay aiming technical sort of way,
05:16 but it's clearly useful for bats
05:17 and it's a really cool little addition.
05:19 The tiny monitor is always right there
05:21 in your field of vision,
05:22 but there's a good chance you missed it
05:24 because, well, who looks at their gun
05:26 when they're aiming at something?
05:27 As a little bonus to this entry,
05:29 you can also interact with the mechanical bus
05:31 to preview the disruptor at Wayne Tower before it's ready
05:35 and Lucius will tell you that you spoiled the surprise.
05:38 Number five, Batman's no-kill policy loopholes.
05:42 Batman might have a no-kill policy,
05:44 incredible destruction capabilities of the Batmobile
05:46 notwithstanding, but he definitely doesn't have
05:49 a no-naming policy.
05:51 This can be seen by those willing to pause fights
05:53 and use photo mode to see the damage bats has been dealing.
05:57 Thugs bleed and bruise up as a result of your wailing
05:59 and the results aren't just realistic,
06:02 they're incredibly detailed.
06:03 You'd be forgiven for missing this one
06:05 as once the fight's over,
06:06 you're probably focusing on your next target or moving on,
06:10 but attentive players can notice that cuts will appear
06:13 and your foes can get black eyes.
06:15 I mean, we've all seen the way Batman fights,
06:17 they're definitely getting black eyes,
06:19 probably concussions for that matter.
06:21 Are we sure he's not killing these guys?
06:23 Number four, Robin's mask indent.
06:26 This one's short and sweet,
06:27 but it's so easy to miss and so mind blowing
06:29 that if this list isn't making you wanna check out the game
06:32 for the first time or a replay,
06:34 then this entry might do it.
06:35 In Arkham Knight, Robin has an outline on his face
06:38 where his mask sits when he's not wearing it.
06:41 It might not be the most incognito
06:43 if he has to go from being a vigilante
06:45 then out to dinner with mates soon afterwards,
06:47 but it is realistic.
06:49 This one was alerted to us by Reddit user, Ratbong.
06:52 Yep, Ratbong.
06:53 I don't choose the usernames.
06:55 It's such a wildly insignificant little detail,
06:57 but it's exactly the kind of thing
06:59 that's earned Arkham Knight
07:00 and the larger Batman Arkham series their cult following.
07:04 Number three, insanely detailed grenades.
07:07 This one is also extremely granular.
07:10 Grenabular?
07:12 I'm sorry, I thought there was something there.
07:13 Let's keep going.
07:14 Proving that Rocksteady absolutely deserves
07:16 to be in the rockstar tier of game studios
07:19 that don't skip a thing
07:20 and put incredible detail into their games,
07:23 the grenades in Arkham Knight
07:24 are almost photo realistically rendered,
07:27 which is kind of crazy
07:27 because most players would never even look at one,
07:30 let alone examine one up close.
07:32 Reddit user, TonyoSW took a photo
07:34 for the Batman Arkham subreddit,
07:36 which shows off the little ball of death in all its glory,
07:39 complete with chipped paint,
07:41 suggesting this thing has been around the block
07:43 prior to it being threateningly chucked
07:45 in your general direction.
07:47 This level of detail extends to the weapon design,
07:49 but it seems especially impressive
07:52 when it's applied to something
07:53 that is designed to self-destruct pretty much immediately.
07:56 Number two, you can freak out enemies with trackers.
07:59 If you drop down behind a militia soldier
08:01 who has a tracker and wait a little while,
08:04 he has a pretty excellent voice line
08:05 that's right along the lines of,
08:07 he's standing right behind me, isn't he?
08:10 You can watch the militia let his buddies know
08:12 he's getting a signal and it might be the Batman.
08:15 He then looks at it for a while, trying to get a lock,
08:17 and then says, this doesn't make any sense.
08:20 It says he's right behind me.
08:23 He utters that line while slowly turning his head,
08:26 and honestly, between the performance,
08:27 the writing, and the animation, it's just perfect.
08:30 Take that moment to non-lethally punch his lights out,
08:33 rendering him unconscious with an injury
08:34 I'm sure he'll totally make a full recovery from,
08:37 and be the Batman I know you are.
08:40 Number one, Two-Face's face is even more disturbing
08:43 than you thought.
08:44 We've spent a long time on very minor graphical
08:47 and animation details that add a lot to Batman's journey,
08:50 his characterization, and his enemies in Arkham Knight,
08:53 and this one continues to flesh out the latter.
08:56 Pun partially intended.
08:58 This one's pretty gross, so consider yourself warned
09:00 if you're particularly squeamish,
09:02 but if you take a closer look at Two-Face's visage,
09:05 you can see that the veins on the burnt half of his face
09:08 move and pulse.
09:10 In yet another example of this game cutting no corners
09:13 on how spectacular it looks,
09:15 this is a really awe-inspiring little find,
09:18 especially since it's visible in Dent's character model
09:20 outside of cutscenes too.
09:22 It's so detailed you can actually see the blood
09:25 moving through his veins, and it's creepy enough
09:27 to make you very aware of your own veins,
09:29 so let's just cut the video there.
09:32 That's the end of our list,
09:33 but do let me know down in that comment section
09:35 if you can think of any other incredibly tiny details
09:38 from Batman Arkham Knight.
09:40 As always, I've been Jess from WhatCulture.
09:42 Thank you so much for hanging out with me.
09:44 If you like, you can come say hi to me
09:46 on my Twitter account, where I'm @JessMcDonald,
09:48 but make sure you stay tuned to us here
09:50 for plenty more gaming goodness.
