CJ Stroud is currently on an impressive rookie streak, leading the Texans to a 2-2 record. Meanwhile, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is struggling with the challenges of being the franchise quarterback. SI hosts Robin Lundberg and Claudette Montana debate whether the Panthers might have made the wrong choice in the draft when selecting their quarterback.

00:00 Carolina Panthers, they have started off the season 0-4.
00:03 A lot of criticism coming to Bryce Young,
00:06 obviously their starting quarterback, their rookie,
00:08 as well.
00:09 Did the Panthers make a mistake with drafting Bryce Young,
00:11 you think?
00:13 Look, it's too early to say anything definitively.
00:16 But it's not looking good.
00:18 And I'm not going to say that as a pure diss to Bryce Young,
00:21 you know, rooting for him to do well.
00:23 He played a little bit better this past weekend.
00:26 But it's not just about Bryce Young and the fact
00:29 that he hasn't been great thus far.
00:31 It's the other quarterbacks that were picked
00:33 at the top of the draft.
00:35 CJ Stroud is lighting it up.
00:37 He's carrying himself like a leader.
00:40 And statistically, he's on, you know,
00:42 in the midst of one of the best rookie campaigns
00:45 we've ever seen.
00:46 Not to mention, Anthony Richardson
00:48 looks like a complete beast for the Indianapolis Colts.
00:51 So when two of your contemporaries,
00:53 two of your peers are picked after you
00:56 and they look better than you, not to mention the fact
00:58 that the Panthers gave up another first round pick
01:01 in order to move up to select you,
01:04 so far the returns do look like the Panthers may have messed up
01:08 in making that move.
01:10 I feel like we just got to give it a little bit more time
01:12 before we make this call.
01:13 At the end of the day, he's only 22 years old,
01:15 only played in four regular season NFL games.
01:18 And I also don't think the Panthers' sole issue
01:21 is Bryce Young.
01:22 For reference, he was sacked five times yesterday.
01:24 They only rushed for 83 yards.
01:27 Sometimes there's growing pains with a rookie QB.
01:29 You knew who also had growing pains his rookie season
01:32 in the NFL?
01:32 Peyton Manning.
01:33 He threw 28 interceptions his first season in the NFL,
01:36 but the Colts also went 3-13 that year.
01:39 So I think he was picked number one for a reason.
01:41 I think we got to give it a little bit more time.
01:44 Apropos for Bryce, it's a small sample size.
