Critiquing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's decision to stage a protest in Delhi on October 2 regarding the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) program, Union Minister Anurag Thakur raised concerns about her choice to send allegedly corrupt leaders to the protest site. Thakur's remarks came in response to TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee's sit-in at Rajghat, where he demanded the release of funds for West Bengal from the Central government.
Anurag Thakur took a jab at the TMC, mentioning that in 2019, a central team-initiated investigations into corruption cases in West Bengal, which made the TMC quite anxious. According to him, the investigations revealed significant corruption within the state. He claimed that funds were misappropriated by portraying existing projects as new ones, and the TMC government allegedly engaged in corruption under the guise of Mahatma Gandhi's schemes.
Enumerating what he considered as scandals during the TMC's governance, the BJP leader listed the Coal Scam, Saradha Scam, Teacher Recruitment Scam, PM Housing Scam, Rose Valley Scam, and Cow Smuggling Scam.
Thakur asserted that corruption occurred in housing for the impoverished, as houses were allocated to individuals who already owned multi-story residences. He pointed out that after independence, only PM Modi's government built four crore concrete houses for the needy. He questioned why three-story house owners were included in the PM Awas Yojana and why eligible individuals were excluded. He also questioned Mamata Banerjee's lack of action when the Centre raised concerns, and he inquired about the destination of the ""cut money."" Thakur emphasized that PM Modi's government provided four times more funding to West Bengal than the UPA government.
Anurag Thakur further alleged that under the UPA regime, MGNREGA received Rs 14,985 crore, whereas it received Rs 54,150 crore in 2021 during the NDA government. Similarly, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana received Rs 4,466 crore during the UPA era and Rs 30,000 crore during the NDA government's tenure. He also claimed that the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) received Rs 626 crore during the UPA period and has now received Rs 74,034 crore.

04:11 I have sent some of my leaders to discuss this issue.
04:16 I would like to tell you about this in detail.
04:21 A central team conducted an inquiry from 22nd January 2019 to 24th January 2019 for 3 days.
04:31 A central team conducted an inquiry from 22nd January 2019 to 24th January 2019 for 3 days.
04:41 A central team conducted an inquiry from 22nd January 2019 to 24th January 2019 for 3 days.
04:51 The central team went to the NBI on 13th September 2021 and conducted an inquiry till 17th September 2021.
05:00 The same kind of observation was again given.
05:04 The same kind of observation was again given.
05:07 The big work was divided into small parts and the game was played in such a way that the information was not given.
05:13 The existing work was shown to be new and the scheme was also made a fool of by Mamata ji.
05:28 I am telling this to the people of Gandhi.
05:32 Gandhi ji's death was sent to his nephew. And see how much money was spent on the scheme.
05:43 The roads, ponds were shown which were never built and were already there.
05:47 In the name of that, money was spent in the Malda district.
05:50 Money was spent on removing the sewage from the small rivers.
05:54 And where there is no permission to install a sewage pipe, the work was done.
06:03 Then, the work of making roads for such tea gardens, where you cannot give this benefit to any private company.
06:12 You gave the benefit there and put money in your pocket.
06:15 Then, the work was shown to be done to close the banks of the river and to do the irrigation.
06:25 Many such works, which were not allowed, were shown in this.
06:31 And how the money was spent, whose account it went to.
06:35 An action taken report was given to the central government to do the right thing and give the information to the central government.
06:45 And the inquiry report that we gave on 6th March 2019.
06:53 And the government gave a report on it after 3 months on 19th June.
06:59 It did not say anything. It just said that this step should be taken.
07:06 It did not take any step. It said that it should be taken.
07:08 We again said that the work of non-permission should be investigated.
07:13 After one, the second comprehensive ATR was asked to be given.
07:17 But the state government did not do anything.
07:19 Despite asking for it again and again, the state government, against those criminals, who had to work hard for the poor people and feed their families, their money was taken away by the corrupt government.
07:40 Leave the poor people's rights. I did not leave Sharda, Narda, Rose Valley, I did not leave the teacher, I did not leave the coal, I would have left them in Manrega.
07:51 Leave.
