00:00 The Philippines has a very popular kid in the Paris Olympics in 2024.

00:05 He is the gymnast Aleia Finnegan, the first Filipino gymnast in the Olympics

00:10 in almost 6 decades.

00:14 The road to gold of the Filipino Volter EJ Oviena was not easy.

00:21 Aside from strengthening his body and joining various tournaments,

00:25 he also strengthened his "must win" mindset to enter the Asian Games.

00:30 And a few days after the Philippines won the first gold in the Asian Games,

00:35 this year, EJ is literally on high.

00:39 It's been surreal, enjoying seeing people congratulating me

00:45 and thanking me for actually winning a medal.

00:47 I should actually thank them, you know.

00:49 They put me there, you know.

00:51 They raised me and they literally paid their taxes to go out there and said,

00:56 "Okay, I have a job to do. I'm going to go out there and embrace whatever I feel like."

01:01 Aside from this medal, EJ also broke the Asian Games record.

01:06 He has already qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

01:10 But EJ has another target.

01:13 I want to be the best I've ever lived and I want to be the greatest of all time.

01:16 If not in Asia, hopefully in the world.

01:20 I think it's a doable thing.

01:22 All I need to do is trust my coach, focus on what I need to do,

01:26 and be able to, you know, kind of be obsessed in my craft.

01:31 EJ's message to Filipinos is to continue supporting Filipino athletes in the Asian Games.

01:37 Athletes who make history, like the Sepak Takraw team of the Philippines,

01:42 who won bronze in the men's squadron of Sepak Takraw.

01:46 After 33 years, this is the first medal of the Philippines

01:50 in a game that is more well-known in countries in Southeast Asia.

01:54 Another bronze for the Philippines is the achievement of the Filipino weightlifter Elrin Ando

01:59 of the women's 64kg weight class.

02:02 She successfully lifted the total of 222kg in snatch and clean and jerk.

02:09 The Philippines was also successful in the men's basketball semifinals
