00:00 after Washington with the Michigan State game?
00:02 - I mean, I feel like, I'm gonna speak on me.
00:05 I mean, I could have got down here more
00:07 like I did in the fourth quarter.
00:09 Make the, get the tough yards when they're not there.
00:13 Really just run harder, you know, more physical.
00:15 But yeah, mainly just get down here more
00:17 and that's when I'm best.
00:18 - Is that what separates a good running back
00:20 from a really good running back?
00:21 Is instead of trying to bounce it outside
00:24 and get, and go for the big play,
00:25 just getting down there?
00:26 - Yeah, there's nothing in the game
00:27 that you come to, you understand that sometimes
00:30 it might not, it might be a little muddy,
00:31 a little muddy, so you gotta just shove it in there
00:34 and try to get what you're doing.
00:34 Sometimes you might pop out.
00:36 Sometimes it might turn a two yard game into a six
00:39 and sometimes it might be a one yard game,
00:41 but then the next play it might hit for 10,
00:43 or eight, or nine.
00:44 Sometimes it ain't always be pretty,
00:46 but you gotta understand that, you know,
00:47 you just put your head down and sometimes
00:50 it'll be a little ugly,
00:51 but you can make something out of nothing.
00:53 - How do you kind of rebound when you have a play
00:56 where you fumble the ball and it's a big play in the game?
00:59 How do you kind of flush that and move on
01:01 and know that you have to go out and still perform?
01:04 - I mean, they all go back to your preparation.
01:05 I mean, like once again, stuff happens,
01:08 but you all gotta go back to the work that you put in
01:10 and you just believe in yourself.
01:12 And also you have good teammates.
01:14 They there for you, like, tell you keep your head up,
01:16 pick yourself up, blah, blah,
01:17 make sure they remind you who you is
01:19 and that one play don't define you.
01:21 You just go back out there and show them who you is
01:23 for real, you know, it happens.
01:26 - What do you feel like you've seen from Purdue on film?
01:29 New coaching staff,
01:30 I don't know how much the defense has changed from last year.
01:33 What are you seeing from the Boilermakers?
01:35 - Um, man, physical defense.
01:37 I mean, they were like a five man front.
01:40 So it's like, you know,
01:41 they probably always got an extra man type stuff
01:44 in the running game.
01:45 I mean, it should be a good run challenge for us this week.
01:48 I mean, don't mean we're not gonna run them out,
01:49 but it should be a very good challenge for us
01:52 and we look forward to it.
01:54 - What does Deacon Hill bring to this offense?
01:56 - Uh, Deacon, he brings a,
01:58 I mean, Deacon got, once again, a very big arm.
02:00 So I feel like he a threat throwing the ball down the field.
02:02 I don't feel like,
02:04 I don't see if I can outrun Deacon's arms.
02:06 I feel like he can always, at any point,
02:10 I mean, we could be on a 20, he could throw it down
02:11 and I don't know how far he can throw it,
02:13 but he can throw it far.
02:15 - What was your first impression of him?
02:17 - Uh, it's a big dude, man.
02:19 (laughing)
02:21 That's a big dude, man.
02:23 Yeah, cool dude, too.
02:24 He laid back, chill, fun, cool vibe.
02:28 Yeah, football player.
02:29 - Kick our ass a lot of the time,
02:30 which is, it's a lot of fun being able to go against them
02:33 'cause sometimes we get better looks
02:36 going against our scout team than sometimes in the game.
02:38 It's harder in the scout, in practice than it is in the game,
02:41 which is what it should be.
02:43 So our scout guys do a great job
02:44 and our GAs do a great job of giving us harder looks
02:46 than we might see come Saturday.
02:48 - How have you guys all adjusted now
02:50 to Deacon being quarterback,
02:52 and other than maybe having different hands
02:55 in other regions?
02:57 (laughing)
02:58 - I wouldn't say it's that big of an adjustment.
03:01 We all got to work with him this past spring
03:02 just 'cause Cade was down and we got a lot of reps with him.
03:05 And he got to see our offense work into our offense.
03:08 I wouldn't say there's much of a difference
03:10 other than the experience level
03:11 that Cade had versus D-Pad.
03:13 He's only played in one Big Ten game, I think, now,
03:16 or whatever, and he did a great job.
03:18 I just say the biggest thing for him right now,
03:20 working with him, is just his confidence
03:21 and believing in himself.
03:23 'Cause I know everybody else believes in themselves
03:24 just by hanging out there.
03:26 Trust in his fundamentals, his keys, and things like that.
03:29 - For the offensive line, the running between the tackles,
03:33 the production is still probably not quite
03:35 where it has been historically in this program.
03:38 How do you guys get that level of execution
03:40 to keep coming up and start to see
03:42 that production rise again?
03:43 - Yeah, I mean, you have to establish a run game
03:45 at some point, and that's what we're working on.
03:47 I know Western Michigan, we had,
03:49 we were doing things right, we felt very good.
03:51 And we just gotta continue to grow in our fundamentals.
03:54 Coach Barron's coached a lot of great offensive linemen,
03:57 and we had the opportunity to listen to Robert Gallery,
04:00 and he went up on the stadium,
04:02 one of like 11 guys, I believe,
04:04 just hearing the things he said.
04:05 And I know, just, I think, his mindset,
04:08 I think that's the biggest thing, is just your mindset
04:10 and how you wanna block the dude.
04:11 Yeah, you can have good fundamentals and things like this,
04:13 but if you don't have the mindset
04:15 that I wanna take this guy to the ground,
04:18 then you're not gonna block the guy.
04:19 So just hearing from him and just how he did things
04:22 was really cool and really opened up the eyes to everybody,
04:25 especially the offense line in that room.
04:27 - We just work at that,
04:28 like the little details like that so hard.
04:30 Like, people aren't gonna notice it,
04:31 but on the other side of the field,
04:33 the punt unit, or punt return unit,
04:38 was kicking the brains in on the Michigan State players.
04:43 And then there was a key block by,
04:45 I think it was Rexroth, Jackson Rexroth,
04:48 which, I mean, that's just one example,
04:52 but there were some weird plays going on,
04:55 like coaching points.
04:56 We coach the hit bys, it's not blocking the back,
05:00 but you're still blocking them.
05:02 And we had one of those, which, if I don't think,
05:05 I don't think he'd have been able to break out.
05:08 I mean, maybe he's Cooper,
05:09 but I don't think he would have been able to break out
05:11 as easily if there was key blocks in the following play.
05:14 So I think that's why he's not nuts,
05:15 'cause not just Cooper, his thing,
05:18 but everybody else was doing what we work on all week.
05:21 And it all fell together.
05:24 And he's a part of the team.
05:26 - Thanks.
05:28 I'm sure that you guys, you and the team,
05:30 have heard about the whole Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce thing.
05:32 I got two questions for you.
05:33 One, are you a Swifty at all?
05:35 And two, if you have any favorite songs, let us know there.
05:36 - It's actually funny to say that.
05:37 I'm a humongous Swifty.
05:38 I love all her songs.
05:40 I beat you out, Taylor Swift,
05:42 sometimes when I ride Suf, so, afterwards.
05:44 So yeah, I'm all for that.
05:46 - You have any favorite songs of hers?
05:48 - I like "Wildest Dreams."
05:50 I like "Style."
05:51 "22."
05:52 I mean, I could keep going, but those are probably my favorites.
05:55 - People on socials have gone back and forth
05:57 with the jokes saying Travis Kelce made Taylor Swift
05:58 after Taylor Swift made Travis Kelce.
06:00 What's your take on that?
06:02 - I mean, as much as I'd like to say Travis Kelce
06:07 made Taylor Swift, I looked up,
06:09 because I heard about that, and I looked it up,
06:12 one of them's got a lot more followers than the other.
06:14 - Thanks, I appreciate that.
06:16 We have to go with the one with a lot more followers.
