00:00 Hey everybody, Ed Loh here at the LA Auto Show
00:02 with the Honda CR-V Hybrid.
00:05 What we're seeing here is something
00:06 that almost never happens.
00:07 A new version that is not only more fuel efficient,
00:10 but it's also faster with basically zero compromise.
00:14 Let's take a look.
00:15 (upbeat music)
00:18 It looks like a CR-V.
00:22 It hasn't changed all that much.
00:23 This is basically a new variant
00:26 in Honda's super popular CR-V line.
00:29 So it's got a two liter Atkinson cycle engine
00:32 and what they call IMMD,
00:34 which is a hybrid system
00:36 that involves an electronic CVT transmission.
00:39 The hybrid system doesn't compromise
00:40 the packaging of the CR-V.
00:42 Let's check it out.
00:43 (upbeat music)
00:45 Well, you see is one of our favorite features of CR-V.
00:48 It's got a flat load floor back here.
00:51 In a gas powered CR-V,
00:52 you would normally have a full size spare back here
00:56 and some storage.
00:57 Instead, you're gonna have a tire repair kit
01:00 and just a little bit of storage here.
01:01 But what's great is a lot of other hybrids,
01:04 you put a battery back here,
01:05 it raises the back, not so with this vehicle.
01:08 Before we go inside,
01:08 let's go around to the front
01:09 and check out the two motor hybrid system.
01:12 (upbeat music)
01:15 How do you know it's a hybrid?
01:17 Well, first of all, on the engine cover,
01:18 it says Earth Dreams Technology with the hybrid badge.
01:21 And the dead giveaway really is these orange cables,
01:24 which are part of Honda's hybrid powertrain.
01:27 Honda says this makes 212 horsepower,
01:29 232 pound feet of torque.
01:32 And again, will be the quickest CR-V in the lineup.
01:35 Fuel economy is supposed to be about 50% better
01:39 on the city cycle.
01:40 That's Honda's two motor hybrid powertrain.
01:43 Let's hop inside.
01:44 (upbeat music)
01:46 Here we are inside the CR-V.
01:51 The one big difference though,
01:52 is the push button transmission selector.
01:55 This is for the CR-V hybrid only.
01:57 It's on other hybrids within Honda's fleet,
02:00 but this is new and cool.
02:01 Next to it are three buttons that are also very familiar.
02:04 You have sport, econ, and EV mode.
02:07 Sport is obviously higher performance.
02:09 Econ with the little green leafs
02:11 gives you better fuel economy,
02:13 but at the expense of slightly reduced performance.
02:16 And then EV mode.
02:17 So EV mode is what you push
02:19 if you wanna just drive
02:20 without utilizing the two liter Atkinson cycle gas engine.
02:24 When you just want the power to come from the batteries.
02:26 Lots of cubbies, cool cup holders.
02:29 There's a charging mat for your phone.
02:32 Honda sensing technology.
02:33 So this is standard on CR-V hybrid.
02:35 It's very cool.
02:37 Lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control,
02:39 all handled with buttons right here.
02:41 All right, so there it is.
02:42 The 2020 Honda CR-V hybrid.
02:45 Better fuel economy, up to 50% better on the city cycle.
02:48 Should be the quickest CR-V in the lineup.
02:50 This will go on sale in the spring of 2020.
02:52 Pricing details have not been released.
02:55 So please stay tuned at MotorTrend.com.
02:57 Thanks for watching.
