00:15 Hi there.
00:16 I am behind the wheel of a 1992 911 RS.
00:21 And this is a car we never got in America.
00:23 But I'm actually behind the wheel of something a lot more
00:25 special than that.
00:27 This is a Workshop 5001 964 RS.
00:32 What was the RS?
00:33 Well, it was actually the first Porsche RS car, Renn Sport.
00:37 And it really meant exactly that, racing in sport, but
00:41 really extra handling plus lightweight.
00:44 So it had different suspension than the regular 964.
00:47 And it has no creature comfort.
00:50 You might be able to see the sweat on my brow because this
00:52 car has no air conditioning.
00:53 It has no air suspension.
00:54 It has no radio.
00:57 [CAR ENGINE REVVING]
01:00 Luckily, it sounds great.
01:02 So even though it is louder, you can hear
01:04 this beautiful engine.
01:06 The two big things-- the suspension's different.
01:08 Gone are the Bilsteins.
01:09 In their place are three-way adjustable KW dampers.
01:13 The ride is actually softer than an RS.
01:16 But because they're fully adjustable, you can turn it
01:19 into a track monster if you need to.
01:21 [CAR ENGINE REVVING]
01:24 It's really good.
01:26 I'm on one of the twistiest roads in Southern California.
01:29 And it's some work, but man, I'm having a ball.
01:32 [CAR ENGINE REVVING]
01:35 Power is 303 horsepower, up from 260, which is nice.
01:39 But much more importantly, torque is up, going from 227
01:44 pound-feet to about 280 pound-feet.
01:47 And that's great because it's still naturally aspirated.
01:49 It doesn't have turbochargers or superchargers or any
01:52 nonsense like that.
01:53 So it's just the response of the engine is just electric.
01:58 [CAR ENGINE REVVING]
02:01 It's really, really good.
02:02 It's just kind of--
02:04 I don't know, probably how the car should have been from day
02:06 one, although they didn't have the technology
02:08 back then to do it.
02:09 So it's a bit of a resto mod.
02:11 It's a bit of a hot rod.
02:13 But what it really is, it's just an incredible car.
02:17 Once again, my mind is blown.
02:19 Once again, I've fallen in love with something that I
02:21 can't afford.
02:23 It's really becoming the story of my life.
02:24 Anyhow, thanks for watching this episode of "Behind the
02:27 Wheel," and we will see you next time.
