DiabloSport and the Infamous Gas Monkey Dart

Johnny Hunkins interviews Dan Dolan of DiabloSport about the importance of their products in the ability to modify the Hellcat engine.

00:00 Hi this is Johnny Hunkins with the Hot Rod Network and we are here at the 2015 SEMA show

00:07 in the Diablo Sport booth with a very special car.

00:10 It is the 1967 Dodge Dart that's built by Gas Monkey Garage for a special episode in

00:17 which they were called out by the folks at our Roadkill Magazine against the general

00:22 mayhem to run a car with a Hellcat powertrain at Roadkill Nights.

00:27 With the Hellcat powertrain put in the older A-body style.

00:30 A lot of hot rodders are going to want to use this engine in their car.

00:34 You guys are going to be the key to doing that in the future.

00:37 You're really pretty far ahead of all the competition and Dan as we understand there

00:42 are special problems involved with the 2015 Chrysler powertrain.

00:47 So what we did was we came in kind of at the 11th hour for this one for kind of a save.

00:53 They had had a lot of companies come in and try to get it running.

00:56 They had PCM modifications and everything but really what it boiled down to was our

01:01 team is crack at anything Chrysler related with a PCM, anywhere from '05 to '15.

01:07 So when our guys got there, they found that the Gas Monkey crew had actually ripped all

01:12 the stock electronics off the motor.

01:14 And the computers go crazy when you do that.

01:17 So they just can't figure out how to start, even your windshield wipers or your windows,

01:22 your power windows, if that stuff's not hooked up, it just won't run.

01:26 So the General Mayhem actually had all of that junk in the trunk.

01:31 They had wired all of it into the back and our team came in and there was a couple things

01:36 we had to kind of fib to the computer to tell it was there but basically we made it crank

01:40 when nobody else could.

01:41 We turned all the sensors off in the computer.

01:43 We made the computer feel like it was a standalone.

01:46 And that allowed them to then get the actual powertrain turned over.
