The Show Car Shootout challenges some of the sharpest and most pampered trailer queen tuner cars to compete on the road course and dynamometer. This year’s call for entries netted everything from a V-8-engine swapped BMW 135i to multiple Honda S2000s and Mitsubishi EVO 10s

00:02 - We are at Street Zoolo and we're doing Show Car Shootout.
00:17 - Weather's cold, the wind could be better,
00:21 but goals for today are just try to go faster,
00:24 keep having fun, keep the car on track.

00:32 - I'm in a 1991 NSX.
00:48 This is now the fourth competition I've done
00:54 with Super Street and Euro Tuner and all of them,
00:56 so probably it's a good time.
00:58 I just wanted to have fun, maybe set a decent lap time
00:59 and hope that the car sticks together, it doesn't break.
01:02 - Started life out as a 135, we call it the 1M clone.
01:07 It's quite a beast.
01:09 From there we realized we really wanted
01:10 to do something special and the owner, Marco,
01:13 he's really put a lot of energy into it
01:15 and has now got an S65, the M3, the E92.

01:27 - We're in a 2006 Honda S2000.
01:35 It's probably tracked about once a year.
01:37 This year we put a K24 in, first time on the track.
01:39 - It's supercharged, it's got custom wheels that we make,
01:46 and then the coilover's Voltex Aero.

01:55 - There's some pretty fast competition here.
02:05 Luckily, I know most of them, so it's a lot of fun.
02:08 A lot of the guys I'm out there competing with
02:09 are really good dudes, very fast,
02:11 and some seriously fast cars.
02:12 There's an R32 GTR, which is really cool,
02:16 supercharged S2000, some really, really quick cars,
02:18 a K-Series S2000, some serious machinery out there,
02:21 and hopefully I can edge out in front.
02:24 - We finished the car at six in the morning today.
02:29 Right now we have to lower the boost
02:31 because we have overboost problems,
02:33 about 420 horsepower.
02:35 Engine's fully built, upgraded turbos,
02:37 it should be over 500.
02:39 - All I did before was car show.
02:42 It's actually my first time tracking my car
02:45 and it feels pretty good.
02:47 I drive an Evo X Lancer, full of various,
02:51 with a Charger Defender, wide body,
02:53 TE37V Mark II, Rapid Continental tires,
02:56 265/40s.
02:58 Really competitive.
03:03 I see the time, it's crazy.
03:05 I see the 1.20, 1.30.
03:06 - My car is not the most competitive car track-wise.
03:11 They did some turbo upgrades,
03:12 they did a Tomei turbo upgrade, Tomei exhaust,
03:15 downpipe, Buddy Club coilovers,
03:18 Volk Racing TE37s, and the Voltex 1.

03:24 - Competition's stiff, but we have Amir out there,
03:29 we have a couple other good drivers,
03:30 and it's a lot of fast cars.
03:32 We could use a little bit of work in the brakes,
03:35 but that's about it.
03:36 - It's a lot of fun here, just to be part of this event.
03:41 In the car show you just have to park,
03:43 but over here you just have to drive it, you know,
03:45 and push the limit.
03:46 - Just wanna have fun.
03:50 We do at least one track day a month,
03:52 so just here to take a day off work.
03:54 - I brought my 2010 Nissan 370Z.
03:59 It's a natural aspirated, so not too much horsepower.
04:03 I think I mod the car more than I actually drive it
04:05 on the track.
04:06 It has potential, but I'm definitely holding the car back.
04:09 This time around the tire's a lot better.
04:14 I really think the car's handling a lot better,
04:16 but I still have a lot to learn.
04:19 - Today we are running the Continental Extreme Contacts
04:22 sports.
04:23 You know, a few years ago we ran DWs,
04:24 and these things are a little quicker, you know.
04:26 A lot of lateral grip.
04:28 I'm very surprising, but they feel really nice.
04:30 - They're a 340 treadwear,
04:36 but they grip a lot more like a 200 treadwear.
04:39 I came in maybe expecting to have to fight the braking
04:42 and mid-corner grip,
04:44 but overall the braking's actually really, really good.
04:46 It's way better than the DW.
04:48 They've made huge improvements on that tire,
04:50 and the overall cornering grip is excellent.
04:52 The car really sticks.
04:54 It blows my mind that these are a 340 treadwear.
04:56 It's really impressive.
04:57 - The size I'm running is a 265/40/18.
05:03 For the treadwear, it's an amazing tire.
05:05 You know, it's very competitive,
05:06 and it's like a couple seconds off of our compound tire.
05:09 So bang for buck in my opinion.
05:16 - It's been quite a revelation
05:17 because the old DW was definitely struggled on track.
05:22 This tire is now, it's right in the realm.
05:24 It's quite a solid tire.
05:27 You know, we're gonna head out for one more session
05:29 as the track cools down.
05:30 Hope for, yeah, hope to get into the 22s,
05:33 which would be pretty awesome.

06:25 We're gonna see what kind of power these cars make.

07:05 on like the aesthetics of it.
07:07 Got a lot of the parts I wanted to
07:08 while still keeping it daily drivable
07:10 and somewhat quick on a racetrack.
07:12 However, you can still have a show car
07:13 and run competitive lap times and look cool,
07:16 which is way more important than going fast.
07:18 But we've done Weekfest San Jose, Street Neos.
07:21 We've been to the Eibach Meet
07:24 and Joey Lee's The Chronicles here beat me.
07:28 So I've gotten to quite a few shows, quite a few meets.
07:31 I've been in the Coya Rad booth and the Nemos Garage booth
07:33 at pretty much all those events.
07:34 Thanks to those guys for having me out there.
07:36 - We've done quite a few different on-track things
07:44 as well as off-track.
07:46 You know, second place in Shell at Monterey Car Week
07:49 and quite a few awesome little events.
07:51 It's a little windy and it's a little chilly,
07:54 so we were hoping for a little bit quicker,
07:56 but NSX, which is wicked fast,
07:59 that we've been going back and forth with.
08:01 So definitely great competition.
08:04 - Currently I'm in the lead.
08:07 So yeah, I think it's the fastest time,
08:10 the day and fastest time of the event so far.
08:12 So hopefully it stays that way.
08:14 I'm gonna go for one more session,
08:15 see if I can go a little bit faster
08:17 and after that just hang out.
08:18 - I'm at 124.6.
08:22 Competition's good, you know.
08:24 On track I'm doing a little bit better than I thought
08:26 considering the car's first time out.
08:28 So we made a few adjustments to the suspension.
08:31 I think we have one more session
08:33 and we're gonna try to get a few more tenths off that.
08:35 - Hanging in there with the NSXs and GTRs,
08:39 couple seconds off.
08:40 So hopefully we can shave a little more time
08:41 as the day goes on.
08:42 - I'm looking forward to doing this as many years as I can.
08:54 I mean, hopefully bring out more cars
08:56 and do FF Battle, Show Car Shootout,
08:58 and whatever else you guys might have.
09:00 - FF Battle, FR Shootout,
09:08 Tuner GP, and now Show Car Shootout.
09:10 So I hope to do more of them.
09:12 I'm hoping to come next year.
09:13 My car is actually, we're kind of done
09:16 with what we wanted to do with the stock NSX.
09:18 So now we're gonna go pretty radical with it
09:20 and change up quite a few things.
09:21 Still keep it a street car,
09:23 but kind of, I guess,
09:24 the maximum you can go with a street car.
09:26 So I'd like to come back next year with the same car,
09:27 but with a whole new list of modifications.
09:29 - I mean, I love this event.
09:35 It's always one of the highlights of the year
09:36 to come to the Super Street Shootout.
09:38 So hopefully next year I'll have a monster car.
09:40 I'll be able to win it.
