00:00 How you feel about the Lamborghini Huracan
00:02 is largely determined by your mental age.
00:05 The poster hanging 12 year old within all of us
00:07 will look at it and say, wow!
00:10 But the sober, rational adult will look at it and say,
00:13 well, it's just an overpriced Audi R8
00:15 in a Kuntosh body kit.
00:17 Also, it's so low to the ground it scrapes on shadows.
00:21 And it rides like an epileptic horse.
00:24 Plus, this paint, it's so obnoxious
00:27 they might as well call the color Kanye.
00:30 But that 12 year old might turn 13 and say,
00:34 dude, there's a 610 horsepower, naturally aspirated V10
00:39 mounted right behind your head,
00:41 connected to a lightning quick dual clutch transmission
00:45 and all wheel drive grip.
00:47 How old am I, mentally?
00:50 You're gonna find out in about 20 seconds.
00:52 (car engine revving)
00:55 (upbeat music)
00:58 (car engine revving)
01:01 (electronic beeping)
01:12 (car engine revving)
01:18 (car engine revving)
01:21 Yeah, so I'm a middle-aged man
01:36 living out my 12 year old fantasy.
01:39 This car, the Huracan.
01:42 (laughing)
01:46 Oh man, okay, what are we talking about?
01:49 Looks, there isn't a bad angle.
01:52 I've been staring at this thing for a week
01:53 and it works, it just works.
01:56 It's actually a nice homage
01:58 to a lot of great Lambos from the past.
02:00 The front, clearly you see the Kuntosh,
02:03 especially there's these triangular sections on the hood.
02:06 The mirror, especially from the rear.
02:08 Now, if you look at the rear of a mirror,
02:10 and I try and do that once a week,
02:11 you will notice they kind of took the rear end of a mirror
02:14 and flipped it upside down.
02:16 And that's the rear of the Huracan.
02:18 It just works.
02:20 I've had a Lamborghini hanging on a wall
02:24 where I've lived since I was about 11.
02:27 And much to my wife's chagrin, that's still true.
02:30 I would get a poster of this.
02:33 I would get a Huracan poster.
02:35 Just knockout design, knockout design.
02:40 Speaking of knockouts, we gotta talk about performance.
02:45 (engine revving)
02:48 The Huracan can hit 60 miles an hour in 2.8 seconds.
02:55 Extremely quick for a naturally aspirated car.
02:58 This Lamborghini's quarter mile time is ridiculous.
03:02 10.6 seconds at 132.8 miles per hour.
03:07 That quarter mile time means,
03:11 not only is this faster than a GTR, a Nismo GTR,
03:15 this is the quickest accelerating,
03:18 naturally aspirated car we've ever tested.
03:20 In fact, the only cars we've ever tested
03:22 that are quicker than the Huracan are the Bugatti Veyron,
03:26 the McLaren P1, and the Porsche 918.
03:30 And all those start over a million bucks.
03:32 And that's just straight line.
03:37 This thing corners too.
03:39 (engine revving)
03:41 It has a max lateral acceleration of 1.02 G's.
03:46 And the Huracan can run around our figure eight
03:48 in 23 seconds flat with a remarkable average G of .98.
03:53 So numbers are one thing, and again,
04:00 P zeroes are not the most aggressive tires
04:02 we could've had on the car.
04:04 But what I noticed driving this thing
04:06 around the figure eight is,
04:07 it is by far the most controllable car I've ever figure eighted.
04:12 It'll just do whatever you want.
04:15 My technique, you know, I would come in hot,
04:18 trail brake, and then I would sort of
04:20 rotate the car a little bit,
04:21 and then one steering angle and just right foot
04:25 to steer the car through.
04:26 And then whap it on the way out,
04:28 and oversteer, tire smoke, unbelievable.
04:32 (engine revving)
04:35 You know, Anthony, my camera guy right here,
04:37 this guy can bench press an Audi,
04:38 but I had him squealing like a little girl.
04:41 The thing is just, it's so aggressive.
04:43 (engine revving)
04:45 It's just an amazing vehicle.
04:47 So think about it, Ferrari, 488, turbos,
04:52 McLarens, turbos, Huracan, natural aspiration.
04:57 That makes this the last man standing.
04:59 It's the last naturally aspirated,
05:01 entry level super car you can buy.
05:04 And I applaud Lamborghini for keeping it that way.
05:08 Awesome.
05:08 (engine revving)
05:11 And the sound, I mean, come on.
05:17 Nothing beats natural aspiration.
05:19 (engine revving)
05:22 Not only in terms of sound, and again,
05:27 V10 is not the most melodious engine,
05:29 but I love this one.
05:31 But in terms of revving and then degrading.
05:34 (engine revving)
05:37 And that's part of the reason why it's so controllable,
05:39 is when you do come off the throttle,
05:42 revs drop and then you get real engine braking
05:44 and it's useful and you can use that to control the car.
05:48 What was happening when I was driving the Huracan around,
05:50 early on in the week, the part of my brain
05:53 that tingles when I'm in something really special,
05:56 you know, it was twitching.
05:57 And I'm talking about, you know,
05:59 what happens when you drive cars like the Ferrari,
06:01 the 458 Italia, or the Pagani Huayra.
06:04 And, you know, two of the most incredible machines
06:07 I've ever driven.
06:08 Well, you know what?
06:09 Huracan is just as good.
06:11 If not better.
06:14 (laughs)
06:15 I mean, this is the total package.
06:18 This is a super car.
06:20 (engine revving)
06:24 (engine revving)
06:26 All right, so Randy, brought you out to Big Willow
06:34 with Kermit the Lambo here,
06:36 because I've been driving this car for a week
06:40 and I'm very impressed with it.
06:42 More so than most other cars I've ever driven.
06:45 - You've driven a lot of cars, Terry.
06:47 - I've driven a lot, but I'm worried
06:49 that my opinion of it is too high.
06:52 So I want a pro driver to tell me I'm crazy.
06:54 It's not that good.
06:55 (engine revving)
06:58 (laughs)
07:02 (upbeat music)
07:04 - Look at that thing put power down.
07:14 - Yeah.
07:15 - It feels light to me.
07:17 You said it's 3,400 pounds, right?
07:19 - I think 3,409, yeah.
07:22 It feels like 2,500 pounds.
07:24 It feels light.
07:25 Even though it has stability, it is not understeering.
07:33 It's just a balanced car.
07:35 (engine revving)
07:40 I'm all about the balance.
07:51 You think about like a GTR,
07:53 which is again, a brutal car, fast, capable,
07:57 but you know it's all wheel drive.
07:59 It has the capabilities and more of a GTR,
08:06 but it adds all this fun and this thrill
08:09 and this driving involvement that the GTR does not.
08:13 We're gonna go up this hill.
08:17 (engine revving)
08:20 Yeah, just digs.
08:27 - Every other car we drive here gets all sideways,
08:31 right there on the exit of left-hand turn three.
08:33 - Including the 918, which is all wheel drive.
08:36 - Yeah, that's true.
08:37 - To me, the Huracan is a lot like the Hellcat
08:43 and here's why.
08:44 - Yeah.
08:44 - My whole life, I've been staring at pictures
08:47 of muscle cars and dreaming that they will actually
08:51 be as good as they look, right?
08:53 - I gotcha.
08:54 - They will be really fast and the brakes will be good
08:57 and they'll turn and muscle cars generally stink.
09:00 - Right, and then you drive a '65 Mustang GT.
09:03 - Yeah.
09:04 - It's horrible.
09:05 - And we've both driven a Countach.
09:08 - Horrible.
09:09 - It's the worst car I've ever driven.
09:10 It's still my favorite car,
09:12 but it's a horrible car to drive.
09:14 - So true.
09:15 - And this one though, the Huracan,
09:18 it's about as good looking as a mid-engine car can get.
09:21 - It answers the supercar promise.
09:25 It really is super.
09:26 - Yeah.
09:34 - It doesn't just look super, it drives super.
09:41 - I got one-handed into the corner, hard on the gas.
09:45 I'm talking with my hands.
09:46 This was not the Lamborghini way it was before.
09:49 - No, no.
09:50 - Oh no, it was white knuckle the whole time.
09:53 - I remember I was talking with Valentino Balboni
09:59 about the Countach and I remember we were just discussing
10:03 various aspects of the car and he got to the brakes
10:06 and he makes the sign of the cross.
10:09 But you know, I mean, this car's not like that.
10:13 - It's a modern car that's setting a new standard,
10:17 I think, for handling.
10:19 - I agree.
10:21 - There is a weak point though.
10:22 - Yeah.
10:23 - And maybe because the rest of the car is so good,
10:25 it makes it more obvious, it's the braking.
10:28 The ABS is not as sophisticated as the best other cars
10:33 that we've tried.
10:34 For instance, the good old Corvette, Z06.
10:36 - Yeah, Z06.
10:37 - And the Z28, the humble Camaro Z28.
10:41 This car's ABS allows quite a bit of lock up.
10:46 It doesn't like being pushed too hard, the ABS.
10:50 That's where there's room for improvement on the Huracan,
10:53 is in the brakes.
10:54 - But that's it?
10:56 - That's it.
10:56 Lamborghini was always kind of a wannabe
11:04 when it came to driving.
11:05 They looked cool, they were a little more exotic
11:07 than Ferraris.
11:08 - Sure.
11:09 - But they just didn't drive like a good Ferrari.
11:11 - Right.
11:12 - Well now, the gauntlet has been thrown.
11:15 - All right, we're about to run out of gas,
11:21 so we should probably haul her in.
11:23 While we were refueling, we decided to take a look
11:30 at the tires, and surprise, surprise,
11:32 they were pretty much shot.
11:34 Off came the factory P-Zero's, on went a non-factory set
11:39 of Trofeo R's.
11:40 Hey, blame the Lamborghini engineers, they brought 'em.
11:43 (car engine roaring)
11:47 (car engine roaring)
11:51 (car engine roaring)
11:54 (car engine roaring)
11:57 (car engine roaring)
12:00 (car engine roaring)
12:03 (car engine roaring)
12:08 (car engine roaring)
12:13 (car engine roaring)
12:18 (car engine roaring)
12:27 (car engine roaring)
12:30 (car engine roaring)
12:33 (car engine roaring)
12:37 (car engine roaring)
12:41 (car engine roaring)
13:06 (car engine roaring)
13:09 (car engine roaring)
13:20 The Huracan ran around Big Willow's 2.4 mile track
13:26 in one minute, 25.17 seconds.
13:29 Making it quicker than any production car
13:33 we've ever tested, except for one, the Porsche 918 Spyder.
13:37 (dramatic music)
13:42 When Ferruccio Lamborghini founded his car company,
13:47 the promise was that his cars would be better than Ferrari's.
13:51 It took him 52 years, but Lambo finally did it.
14:02 - Boy, I get high, I'm high when I get out of the car.
14:06 I'm high.
14:07 I've got, what are those drugs that come out?
14:10 Adrenaline?
14:10 - I think, something.
14:11 - Pheromones?
14:12 - Something, something's coming out.
14:13 - Proprioceptors are getting tickled.
14:16 - Right.
14:17 - It just makes me feel that good to drive this car hard.
14:20 Oh yeah.
14:23 It's better than any Ferrari I've ever driven.
14:25 And the best Ferrari I ever drove is a 458.
14:29 I've driven a lot of Ferraris too.
14:30 I've driven most of them.
14:31 We're glowing so emulantly about this car
14:36 that it sounds like we're trying to sell them, right?
14:38 They've leapfrogged Ferrari here for a moment.
14:40 We'll see if Ferrari can outdo this car
14:43 with its next generation.
14:46 - If Ferrari ever gives us another car,
14:47 it was a whole other story.
14:49 (laughing)
14:51 Hi there!
