00:00 There's still a ton we don't know about black holes, however a recent discovery has
00:08 revealed they might be even more complicated than we previously thought.
00:12 Physicists theorized before that when stars collapsed and became black holes, they all
00:15 sucked in anything and everything around them, with the only real difference between them
00:19 being their size.
00:20 However now researchers say that black holes could theoretically act differently given
00:24 the right conditions.
00:25 In binary black hole systems where two black holes are gobbling up everything around them,
00:29 they could ingest enough to become charged.
00:32 As we know, like electrically charged objects repel one another, and the same should be
00:36 true for black holes.
00:37 This could cause them to become more complicated, especially while attempting to view them from
00:41 hundreds of thousands or even millions or billions of light years away.
00:45 That's because a single black hole could theoretically possess multiple event horizons, and binary
00:49 black holes might appear to us as a single very large one.
00:52 The only problem with this new theory is that not a lot of it makes sense with regards to
00:55 current physical models, but black holes are strange and difficult to observe.
00:59 Meaning under just the right circumstances with just the right binary system, and when
01:03 specific conditions are met, it might just be possible.
