England manager Gareth Southgate has announced his squad to play Australia and Italy in October
Transcript
00:00 Obviously he limped off for Arsenal in his last game, what's your understanding of his
00:15 fitness?
00:16 He's still being assessed, so obviously they've got a big game this weekend and then there's
00:25 another seven days before we play Australia and ten days before we play Italy as well,
00:32 so everybody will monitor everything as we go forward.
00:38 Oli has started the season well, he's hit a bit of scoring form in the last couple of
00:47 weeks, you have to be careful with that because you can't just go on recency bias when you're
00:53 looking at selection, but he is in good form, he's obviously coming in on a high and he's
01:00 been with us before, we know his character, we know his personality, he's a good guy around
01:04 the group.
01:05 The team are playing well, he's playing for a club that are really well coached and the
01:11 team are in a good moment.
01:12 The last time you left him out you said to us that you personally spoke to him, did you
01:21 say the same again this time and if so what did you say?
01:25 We spoke before the last squad, as I said we've been happy with the wide players and
01:31 the performances in the last four games in particular.
01:35 We have added Jarrod Bowen in those wide areas, he's scored five in seven games, he's playing
01:41 really well and with the Australia game as well there's an opportunity to learn some
01:47 different things as well.
01:48 It's clearly a joint bid with all the other home nations, so brilliant for everybody if
01:59 that opportunity arises, there's still a little bit to do I think.
02:04 But I think all the nations are fantastic football nations, huge pride, they'll have
02:12 huge pride in hosting and if the teams get qualified as well then there's obviously some
02:20 home advantage to hosting as well.
