00:00 "It was the hardest period for us, because it felt like the world was against us.
00:05 And here's the thing, we were against each other, if I'm being completely honest."
00:10 David and Victoria Beckham are getting honest about the cheating rumors
00:13 that have haunted their marriage for years.
00:16 In his new Netflix documentary Beckham,
00:19 David reflected on the harrowing time in his marriage.
00:22 "There was some horrible stories that were difficult to deal with.
00:35 It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage."
00:45 In 2003, the soccer legend was accused of having an affair while playing in Spain for Real Madrid.
00:51 After transferring from Manchester United.
00:54 "When I first moved to Spain, it was difficult because I'd been part of a club and a family for
01:10 my whole career, from the age of 15 to I was 27 years old. I'd get sold overnight.
01:21 The next minute I am in a city, I don't speak the language.
01:26 More importantly, I didn't have my family."
01:29 His wife also speaks out on the alleged infidelity
01:34 and opens up about the pain she felt at the time.
01:37 "You know, up until Madrid, sometimes it felt like us against everybody else.
01:46 But we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain,
01:51 it didn't really feel like we had each other either. And that's sad.
01:56 I can't even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me."
02:06 "You know, every time that we woke up, we felt, you know, there was something else. And,
02:13 you know, we felt that, I think we both felt at the time that we were
02:17 not losing each other, but drowning. Victoria is everything to me.
02:24 To see her hurt is incredibly difficult. But
02:34 we're fighters. And at that time, we needed to fight for each other,
02:42 we needed to fight for our family."
02:43 The couple have previously denied the claims against David, but Victoria admitted in the
02:49 four-part series that back then she began to resent her husband.
02:54 "If I'm being totally honest, yes, I did. It was probably, if I'm being honest,
02:58 the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life.
03:02 You all right, big boy? Told you you'd be okay.
03:07 It wasn't that I felt unheard because I chose to internalize a lot of it because I was
03:11 always mindful of the focus that he needed."
03:15 The 48-year-old pro didn't hold back when explaining how the bombshell reports impacted him.
03:21 "There were some days that I would wake up and think, 'How am I going to go to work?
03:25 How am I going to walk onto that training pitch? How am I going to look as if nothing's wrong?'
03:29 I felt physically sick every day when I opened my eyes. How am I going to do this?"
03:35 The pair fought for their marriage and are still together after 24 years,
03:40 with four children -- Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.
03:44 In another vulnerable moment caught on camera, Victoria reacts to the news that David had to
03:49 miss the birth of their youngest son for a photo shoot with Beyonce and JLo.
03:54 "You've got a damn photo shoot with Jennifer Lopez, who is gorgeous,
03:58 and not about to have a baby. So I had my C-section, and I remember lying there.
04:06 Don't feel at my most gorgeous, let's just say..."
04:08 "And I remember someone showing me the front page of the newspaper,
04:19 which was a gorgeous picture of David between Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce,
04:24 and the headline was, 'What would Posh say?'"
04:26 "Let me tell you what Posh would say. Posh was pissed off."
04:35 On Tuesday, David was joined by his family on the red carpet at the UK premiere,
04:40 and danced the night away with his wife afterwards.
04:43 He shared a sweet photo with his lady love on Instagram, and wrote,
04:47 "Still making her laugh with my dancing 26 years on. Love you @victoriabeckham.
04:52 And thank you for being there for dad last night, kitties. @brooklynpelzbeckham @romeobeckham
04:58 @cruzbeckham #harper7. Sorry about dad's moves."
05:03 Access Hollywood spoke to the father of four on the red carpet,
05:07 and he reflected on his latest project.
05:10 "Well, congratulations. First of all, I'd just like to say if there's any superstar
05:13 that's going to turn up for their own premiere on time, it's you.
05:16 Nobody had to wait any time at all."
05:18 "I hate lateness. I do not like people that are late, so absolutely,
05:22 I would have been on time for anything, and I always am on time, so yeah."
05:27 "Congratulations on the documentary. It really shows one of the many reasons
05:31 why you're so successful is your incredible resilience.
05:35 In your own words, what do you put that down to? Where do you get it from?"
05:41 "My parents, simple as that. I came from an East End family, working class, that worked hard.
05:48 My dad still worked when he was 72, 73 years old. My mum was still cutting hair when she was
05:56 70 years old, so I come from a really working class, humble background, and the resilience
06:03 has just, I assumed, come from my parents, my grandparents, because there were difficult times.
06:09 There were difficult times over the years."
06:11 "Oh, who's that Anna?"
06:12 "Hi!"
06:12 "Andrea's your sister?"
06:14 "My nephew, Jake."
06:15 "Nice to meet you. You look very smart."
06:17 "I'm so excited."
06:18 "Thank you for being here."
06:19 "Oh, I'm so excited. It's so great not to be at a fashion show.
06:22 It's going to be wonderful."
06:25 "Anna, is he still as stylish as ever?"
06:27 "Perfect."
06:28 "He looks amazing, doesn't he? What's his secret for being a style icon?"
06:32 "He's a really good person."
06:33 "Can't argue with that."
06:36 "I can't argue with that."
06:37 "What was the most challenging thing for you to share honestly in this documentary?"
06:42 "I think there was many challenges. The challenge was going back over things. I think that I'd never
06:49 really thought about '98, and everything that happened to me in '98, I kind of just moved on
06:55 very quickly. Even though there was a lot of stuff going on around me, I was protected by
07:01 Manchester United, by my teammates, by Sir Alex Ferguson, and by the Manchester United fans. So,
07:06 you know, going over '98 and seeing some of the footage and seeing some of the archive from that
07:11 was really tough."
07:12 "Have your family watched this?"
07:14 "We've seen little bits, but I wanted tonight to be the first time that we all sat there and
07:21 all watched it. I've seen a couple of the edits, but I really trusted the team. I really trusted
07:27 Netflix. I really trusted Fisher and John Battyk and Nicola Howson and Billy Shepard and our
07:34 amazing editor, Michael Hart, and I really trusted them. So, I really wanted tonight to be really the
07:40 first time that I sat down and watched it fully graded, watched all of the music, all put in there.
07:45 So, we'll see."
07:47 "I hope it goes well with your family. Your family is mentioned all the time because it's the
07:51 backbone to your success and your love. Of course, your family really started when you met Victoria,
07:56 but how did you manage to keep it under wraps? Because that's what our manager said, you were
08:02 already a really famous soccer stun and so was she."
08:05 "Well, you know, I was just coming into, obviously, the fold at Manchester United and, obviously,
08:10 Victoria was the biggest star. You know, she was obviously posh spice in the Spice Girls and,
08:14 you know, world famous. So, that was the difficult part, you know, but we..."
08:18 "How did you do it? Meeting in cars?"
08:20 "You know, we're from, we're both from, you know, she's from Harlow, I'm from East London,
08:26 I'm from, you know, Chinckford, Leytonstone. So, we just found a way of keeping it quiet.
08:31 We met in car parks, I drove down to London to see her on a day off."
08:36 "It worked."
08:36 "We sneaked around the back of the beefy car parks and sat with each other for hours."
08:43 "Any correlation with Taylor Swift? Because she's got a hankering for a sports person now."
08:48 "No, as long as she's happy, that's the most important thing. You know, Taylor's such a
08:52 talented person. My daughter is a huge fan, my son's a huge fan. I think we're all huge fans,
08:58 but the most important thing is that she's happy and if she's happy, whatever she's doing,
09:02 that's the most important thing."
09:03 "Thank you so much for stopping and thank you very much. Good night."
