00:00 >> Do you have a percentage on that or?
00:01 >> No, no.
00:02 >> You went right back in, I mean, pretty much right back into the game and
00:05 had a hell of a catch on the winning drive.
00:07 I mean, are you going on adrenaline there or emotion?
00:10 >> Yeah, definitely adrenaline.
00:13 I was in the next day, didn't really move too much, but
00:15 definitely a lot of adrenaline.
00:17 And just the moment of the game, a lot of moves to finish, so
00:21 definitely a lot of adrenaline.
00:22 >> Did you notice an angry right away when that happened?
00:24 >> Yes.
00:25 >> Because you dealt with that last season, did you kind of fear the worst at first?
00:31 >> Yeah, I definitely didn't know how severe the injury was.
00:34 I knew it was kind of the same ankle all over again, just like last year.
00:39 So I kind of knew, if I want to finish this game, I know how to play on it,
00:42 because I had to play on it last year.
00:44 So, but yeah, it's kind of the same thing.
00:46 >> How proud were you of the block that you made that happened at the same time?
00:51 >> Yeah, very proud, very proud.
00:52 I think the coach's kind of challenged us as receivers to make those big blocks
00:57 to outside to spring long touchdown runs.
00:59 And then Trey got through there, but Mason people missed and broke the tackle.
01:03 So I was just proud of myself for kind of making that block and
01:06 having a presence, not only in the pass game, but just in the running game as well.
01:09 >> You got a guy called Swing and Goer, so it was Peyton, right?
01:12 >> Yeah. >> Or Trey, did you watch that when you're
01:15 on the field?
01:16 I know you had your head down, did you watch the replay of that?
01:18 >> No, I don't know what happened.
01:19 I'm just in a lot of pain at the moment.
01:21 >> Yeah. >> I got it in my ankle.
01:23 >> My arm. >> Sorry, my leg.
01:24 I don't wanna belabor it, but you were talking about the severity and
01:28 we can find out.
01:29 Do you think that it's worse than the one last year or is this better than the one
01:34 that we had last year?
01:35 How does it compare?
01:36 >> Yeah, I would say it's worse than the one last year.
01:39 I'm good enough.
01:40 >> Okay.
01:41 >> Did you feel immediately like I'm gonna get back into the game or
01:44 was that something that you kinda had to have a discussion with the trainers before
01:47 you got back out there?
01:48 >> Yeah, it was something I had a discussion with the trainers.
01:51 I was going back in there, got the ankle re-taped, and
01:54 then put the spat over the cleat, taped it again.
01:57 And then I just kinda go out there and didn't really bend the ankle too much,
02:00 or how much it was taped so much.
02:02 And then go out there and do some sprints and
02:03 just show them that, okay, I can still move.
02:06 I'm good enough for that, but- >> What was your time with that?
02:09 >> Yeah, I got my arm back this time.
02:10 >> Well, I'm gonna change the subject a little bit.
02:12 You've been through what it's like, what's the problem with winning a job and
02:16 then starting to put his hand on what that's like?
02:20 You're going through it now with his time, with him as a college football player.
02:23 Are there any differences or similarities between what you guys went through in
02:26 high school, watching him grow into a leadership role versus right now?
02:29 >> No, I think one thing that's really cool about Kyle,
02:32 he's the same guy all the time, no matter where he's at.
02:34 Depth chart wise, fighting for his spot, being a starter,
02:39 he's the same guy every time.
02:40 I think that's the kind of person he is, has confidence in himself that he can go
02:44 out there and perform at a high level.
02:46 He's the same guy every time, real calm, cool, collected.
02:49 I think going into that last game win and draw,
02:52 no one had probably more confidence in themselves than him.
02:55 So that's just the kind of guy he is.
02:57 >> What's his leadership style from your experience?
03:00 >> I mean, he's really funny and he's such a jokester off the field.
03:03 I think he can be friends with anybody.
03:05 It's just the kind of personality he has with him.
03:07 When it's time to be serious, he definitely can be serious and
03:10 rally the guys around him and we kind of feed off his energy.
03:13 >> Did anything change in his demeanor after they said officially he was
03:17 a starter quarterback and running around?
03:19 >> Like I said, he's the same guy all the time.
03:21 >> Mark, everybody describes Kyle as calm, but after that touchdown,
03:24 he's anything but, running around with him.
03:26 Knowing him for so long, seeing him hit that moment, what was that like?
03:30 >> I mean, that was special.
03:32 Just how to wait two years and you kind of, your whole life basically,
03:37 you're not sitting behind anybody.
03:38 You're going out there, you're a starter quarterback.
03:40 So, and then, like I said, wait, get here, wait two years and
03:43 kind of wait your turn.
03:44 And then for him to perform like he did on that last drive,
03:47 that big of a stage, I'm super proud of him.
03:49 I know all that he's been through from high school and to that moment.
03:54 So I was just really super proud of him.
03:56 >> Robert, Maryland's second day didn't go very well.
03:58 What are your impressions of the team?
04:00 >> I mean, yeah, they're good.
04:01 I think last year, not the same guys, but
04:03 last year they probably had the best second day they faced all year last year.
04:07 So I mean, I'm sure they're well coached, obviously, over there.
04:10 I have a lot of talent, a lot of depth.
04:12 That's gonna be a challenge for us.
04:13 >> That includes Georgia?
04:15 I mean, when you say the best second day y'all faced last year,
04:17 does that include Georgia's?
04:19 >> I mean, I would say corner, yeah, I think it's,
04:22 I think it's the first time I went to New York last year.
04:25 He definitely might have a challenge last year.
04:27 >> Marvin, it's just a realistic discussion with a guy like you who has a bright NFL
04:31 future ahead of him.
04:33 Whenever you have something like that happen on the field with your injury,
04:36 is there anything in the moment that's in your head?
04:39 Is there anything as you're dealing with the injury of, yes,
04:42 I wanna win right now with Ohio State, but I also have a future to think about?
04:46 >> No, I didn't cross my mind that one time.
04:48 I'm trying to win the game.
04:50 It was close game at the time, I think we went up 10-3, 10-7.
04:53 That was the exact score, but I didn't know that, but
04:56 I crossed my mind, you know, go out there and help my team win.
04:59 That's all I was thinking about.
05:00 >> Yeah, you laid out for the one pass you got on the winning drive,
05:04 I mean the one pass you got to catch on the winning drive.
05:06 >> Yeah.
05:07 >> Literally the ankle was not on your mind at that point?
05:09 >> No. >> How would you explain it?
05:10 >> I'm just trying to go out there and win the game, do my part, do the best I can.
05:13 I trust myself in the moment, but I was just trying to win the game.
05:17 >> You talk about Kyle and everything, but what does it do for Kyle to lead that kind
05:21 of drive, and what does it do for him among you guys?
05:25 I mean, you can all talk about what you believe in about a guy, but
05:28 until he goes out and really does it under pressure, right?
05:32 >> It's confidence.
05:33 >> Yeah. >> That's exactly what you're
05:34 alluding to, just the confidence that you build in that moment,
05:37 going out there knowing that you can do it.
05:40 Like you say, you kind of believe in yourself, practice, you do it, and
05:43 you envision yourself before the game, okay, I can do this.
05:46 But then when you actually go out there and do it,
05:48 that's when you build the confidence.
05:50 >> What about the coverage that they were playing?
05:52 Sorry.
05:52 >> Yes. >> Was that instructive for
05:54 you at all coming out of a game like that?
05:55 Do you think, are there things that you can do better to try to overcome that when
05:59 teams try to scheme you out like that?
06:01 >> I think it's part of football.
06:04 I think, like I said, just try to do my part in order to get the bracket coverage,
06:08 the double coverage, safety help my way.
06:10 Makes the field wider for my teammates, and I think they can succeed more.
06:16 So that's the role I gotta play in the offense, and I'm willing to do that.
06:20 >> You're most consistent with the team that's on that team,
06:23 or watching how often they're there and controlling it?
06:26 >> I mean, definitely got it here and there.
06:30 I mean, they did it pretty consistently, especially with the safety.
06:32 Everybody, different teams do it their own little way, how they wanna play me,
06:37 especially that three by one set that we're kinda known for, me backside.
06:41 Everybody plays it a little differently, so
06:43 that's probably the way they played it was very consistent though.
06:46 >> You mentioned Kyle's confidence growing from that.
06:49 What does that do for the team's confidence in Kyle?
06:52 >> I think we always had confidence in him.
06:54 And you guys are kinda all on board now to have trust in him and
06:58 confidence in him, but I think we always had the confidence in him before that
07:01 play even happened, or that drive even happened, so go out there and execute.
07:05 >> Mark, what have you seen from Chip to enable him to play the role he's playing
07:08 for his team this year?
07:10 >> Yeah, I mean, Chip, that's the kind of do it all guy.
07:12 I think he's worked very hard to be able to excel in the pass game and
07:17 run game.
07:18 He came here playing linebacker, and to move over to running back now, and
07:21 just he's a team first kind of guy.
07:23 And he can do whatever that we need him to do as a team to help us win.
07:26 So I respect Chip a lot,
07:29 he's one of the most respected players on our program.
07:31 So for him to get that touchdown, I'm super proud of him.
07:35 Just like I said, I know he came here as a linebacker and
07:38 then moved to running back.
07:39 He just did whatever he needed to do to help the team win.
07:42 >> Mark, what is it like to be on the field and you see the play call, and
07:46 it's coming down to that play?
07:48 You understand what I'm saying?
07:48 The three seconds left, and they're not throwing it to you,
07:52 they're gonna run it, you know what I mean?
07:54 But what is it like to be out there with basically y'all's fate in the balance?
07:59 I mean, and knowing on that play, you're probably not gonna have much to do with.
08:03 You understand what I'm saying?
08:04 And yet it's the team saying, what is that feeling like out on the field like that?
08:07 >> I was just rooting for the linemen.
08:09 I know all the work they put in throughout the week and
08:12 how much emphasis he put on.
08:14 Not the whole off season, just getting that one inch, that one yard.
08:17 But then you look back at the Georgia games,
08:18 like if we're a couple inches yards away from it, it'll be a whole different outcome.
08:22 So that emphasis all off season, and then to be in that moment where all we need is
08:27 one yard to win a game, I was just super proud of them for all the way they executed.
08:32 And like I said, just knowing the emphasis that we put on that moment
08:35 throughout the year, that was very special.
08:37 >> What's a week like when you're balancing practice, preparation for
08:41 gaming, junior career, grand finals, things like that?
08:43 What's it like when you're dealing with the ball?
08:47 >> What exactly are you trying to ask?
08:49 >> How do you kind of balance making sure you get to your grand final,
08:52 make sure you're doing all the other stuff for the third game and
08:55 going through last, does that help you?
08:58 >> Yeah, I think definitely a lot.
09:00 You wanna prepare, but you wanna be smart throughout the week.
09:03 So you can go into Saturday as healthy as you possibly can be.
09:06 So that's maybe not taking a rep here, or a deep ball, or you might not get it.
09:11 So just trying to be smart throughout the whole week, and
09:13 so you can be healthy for Saturdays.
09:15 >> Can you talk about bringing back tearaway jerseys?
09:18 >> Tearaway jerseys?
09:18 >> Yeah, when you're getting grabbed and stuff, top of the ranks.
09:22 >> I mean- >> It is what it is.
09:24 >> Yeah, it is what it is, I guess.
09:25 I mean, I would say they did it very strategically,
09:27 the way Notre Dame tried to grab you.
09:30 When they kind of flipped you, lost you, found you, they grabbed you a lot.
09:32 >> Yeah.
09:34 >> They did it strategically though, they didn't really get caught too much.
