00:00 Education activists have said that the government must focus on providing better infrastructure
00:09 and facilities in schools to make learning more conducive rather than spending on unnecessary
00:14 upgrades.
00:16 In response to the upcoming tabling of the 2024 budget, Chairman of the Melaka Action
00:21 Group for Parents in Education, Mak Chi Kin, said, "Despite the Education Ministry receiving
00:26 substantial allocations annually, the money is not being spent on schools that really
00:31 need it."
00:32 He also said some schools need better infrastructure and facilities, such as better science labs
00:37 and playing fields, but they are often sidelined.
00:41 Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia Honorary Secretary Tunku Munawirah Putra said
00:46 education funds should be utilised wisely.
00:50 She said that the Education Ministry must invest more in teaching, training and mentorship,
00:55 particularly highlighting the importance of training teachers to use technology in the
00:59 classroom.
01:01 National Union of the Teaching Profession Secretary-General Fauzi Singh Onn expressed
01:04 hope that the government would consider the education sector's plans outlined in the
01:09 12th Malaysia Plan when allocating the budget.
01:12 He said some of the plans would require substantial funding, such as introducing IT programmes
01:17 in schools, curriculum revision and developing schools for new communities.
