Ayaz Memon's pregame breakdown ahead of Pakistan vs Sri Lanka match in ICC world cup
Transcript
00:00 I am Ayaz Mehmed with the World Cup Update.
00:02 Tuesday's second match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
00:04 These two teams have met each other a fair number of times recently in a bilateral series
00:08 and then of course again in the Asia Cup.
00:10 So they are familiar with each other.
00:11 There is no surprise where the players are concerned when they confront or contest against
00:15 each other.
00:16 Even the conditions since the matches are being played in the subcontinent, they are
00:20 far more familiar than teams like say Australia or England or New Zealand.
00:25 So far, Pakistan have had a victory under their belt, survived some anxious moments
00:32 against Netherlands and then went on to win that match quite comfortably.
00:37 Sri Lanka had a rather claudious time in the first half of their match against South Africa.
00:42 South Africa just went hammer and tongs after the both of them created a record score, 428
00:47 a World Cup record.
00:49 All the batsmen more or less who went out to win in the middle, they all scored centuries
00:53 went in the court, Rosin, Larsen and so on.
00:57 I mean it was just an annihilation of the Sri Lankan bowling attack and it seemed then
01:02 that they might, their shoulders might droop, they will throw in the towel and surrender
01:06 easily but it didn't happen.
01:08 Actually the Sri Lankans fought back, made a 300+ score.
01:11 Kusal Mendis was so impressive, spectacular stroke play by him also.
01:16 Asalanka and then captain Dasun Shanaka.
01:19 So Sri Lanka in form and that's what, at least the batting.
01:22 Their bowling is weak because there is no Hasaranga to kind of give it that edge, that
01:27 potency and that's where Pakistan have the edge in this match because they are confronting
01:32 a team where the bowling is rather mediocre.
01:35 So Pakistan have to be careful.
01:36 They were saved in the first match by Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, man for a crisis
01:40 always.
01:41 The good form of all-rounders Shah Dab and Mohammad Nawal and of course Harris Rauf,
01:45 Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim in the pace department bowling really well.
01:50 But a knee run from Babar Azam as a captain and as a batsman is just so crucial.
01:55 If Babar Azam delivers the runs then this Pakistan team starts looking like serious
01:59 contenders.
