00:03 "Lalona" is about change.
00:05 It's about how times are changing.
00:08 People should change, should evolve.
00:11 And sometimes when we don't, we get stuck.
00:14 And to me, that's dangerous, because change should always
00:19 be the only constant.
00:20 I've been very, very happy for the past 22 days,
00:22 because every single day is about removing
00:25 shots in my head that I've had for almost 10 years
00:28 about this film.
00:30 So I'm very, very excited.
00:31 And I really just can't wait to show people
00:34 what "Lalona" is about.

00:49 And cut.
00:50 Hi, my name is M. Rahan Halim, and I'm
00:52 the writer and director for the film "Lalona."
00:55 Inspiration comes from an old, old article
00:58 that I've read about a lingerie shop in Saudi,
01:01 or maybe somewhere in the Middle East, that was burned down.
01:03 And I'm just wondering why.
01:04 Why would somebody do that?
01:07 The questions that I have just led
01:09 to telling a story that challenges my perspectives,
01:14 knowing that I wanted to do something about the moon,
01:17 something about the title "Lalona"
01:18 just evoke something cute to me.
01:22 For the longest time, it was just
01:23 supposed to be this jokey little idea about a lingerie
01:26 shop in a Muslim town.
01:28 But only when we pitched it in Hong Kong,
01:30 at Hong Kong Film Art, that people seemed
01:33 to be responding to the idea.
01:34 And when people responded to the idea,
01:36 we thought, hey, maybe there is something more to this.
01:39 We were lucky enough that year to have won two awards,
01:42 the Walter Baron Dreg Award and also the White Light Post
01:45 Production Award.
01:46 That is when we realized we had to start putting
01:48 this little idea and turn it into a little film,
01:52 or a big film, that we have always dreamt of making.
