With the PM recently promising a new tram system for Leeds, we ask locals what they think of the proposal.
Transcript
00:00 Ideally, I'd like to see the trams go back to using the routes that they used before
00:06 we took them out, which is basically all the primary radial routes out of Leeds and also
00:13 some circular routes, both the outer, what used to be the old ring road, but also an
00:19 inner area.
00:20 In the north of the city, we're thinking about things like, I suppose, Chapel Allerton,
00:29 Headingley, to the west of the city we're thinking about Churchill, Bramley.
00:36 I mean, that's, again, that was probably the one flaw in the old bus system, was it didn't
00:42 do the radial routes well enough.
00:45 I don't necessarily think that adding a new transport system is necessarily the most beneficial
00:49 thing.
00:50 When we have one currently that does need work, I don't think all the buses are necessarily
00:55 very reliable, as is.
00:57 I know that there recently has been cuts to certain bus routes, which I don't think is
01:02 very beneficial.
01:03 Also, I think that there has been a lot of disruption around the city anyway, with different
01:09 construction work.
01:10 So I don't know if that's necessarily going to be a very good idea, because a tram is
01:16 going to cause a massive impact on people getting in and out of the city, which ultimately
01:21 could impact our current transport system even more, which, yet again, isn't very beneficial.
01:27 If you're trying to put a new one in, you kind of have to consider the one that we have
01:30 currently and work with that one more so than creating a new one.
01:34 When I lived in Birmingham, I noticed that the tram was really nice, because it helped
01:37 people within the city centre to move around very easily, without having to rush to the
01:43 bus or walking or using a bicycle or a tricycle.
01:48 So I think introduction would actually make Leeds even much better in terms of movement
01:54 within the city.
01:55 I think that's actually a good idea and a great innovation.
02:00 I don't think a tram service would work in Leeds, simply because there's such a connective
02:05 bus route.
02:07 Buses go everywhere here.
02:09 I think it would be to Leeds' advantage to have a tram system put in place as soon as
02:14 possible.
02:15 And my experience recently of having gone to Manchester, and from an outsider's point
02:22 of view, it seemed to have a good tram system there.
02:25 I feel like it would be an easy way for people to get around the city.
02:28 I don't mind it.
02:30 I personally get buses all the way to college.
02:33 The buses are quite slow, I can't lie.
02:35 The trains are alright, but with a tram it would be a lot easier to get to and from college.
02:39 Some buses take a long time, and trains tend to be faster, and I would like to see a bit
02:49 of both.
02:50 I think a tram would be very convenient with the inner city travelling, because the buses
02:54 take too long, they're not reliable, they're always getting delayed and cancelled.
02:57 I think it would be a great idea, you know, because walking is just a very long thing
03:03 to do, you know?
