00:00 On Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to inflict more pain on Palestinians.
00:06 "I promise you, dear Israeli citizens, by the end of this campaign, all of our enemies
00:14 will know that it was a grave mistake to attack Israel.
00:18 What we will do to our enemies in the coming days will reverberate with them for generations."
00:25 Earlier, our correspondent in Jerusalem, Iris Mockler, shared more on what Netanyahu said
00:30 about Israel's response.
00:33 Extremely strong words.
00:34 I would say partly as a reaction to the fact that there's more than 900 Israelis dead,
00:41 most of them civilians.
00:43 I've just seen figures that they're taking the bodies out of one kibbutz, 108 civilians
00:49 killed there on a Saturday morning.
00:51 That's more than 10% of the population of the place.
00:56 I think the shock of that is part of what prompts these words.
01:01 Perhaps also a recognition that there must have been some Israeli failing for these numbers
01:06 to be so large.
01:09 While that may be an intelligence failing or a military failing, it's also a political
01:14 failing.
01:15 Benjamin Netanyahu now has to pursue this course because he's the one who's been the
01:19 prime minister, Israel's longest serving prime minister.
01:23 He was in charge for the past 12 years with a gap of one year.
01:27 He's back in charge.
01:29 There'll be questions at his door when all this is over as well.
01:33 I think that's why he comes out in this way.
01:37 But also it's a reaction to the absolute, I don't have a word for how shocked, for how
01:43 stunned and for how horrified Israelis are as the numbers keep climbing up.
01:49 The numbers keep climbing up only because it's the wounded from that day.
01:55 It's a one day total of civilians killed in Israel.
01:58 There's 900 plus with most of the people who are on the severely wounded list not anticipated
02:04 to survive.
02:05 So that number could still climb.
