00:00 October 10th this year is World Mental Health Day. It's a time to talk about mental health
00:05 and let people know it's okay to ask for help, no matter what you're going through.
00:09 According to the Mental Health Foundation, over 7,000 tea and talk events have been held on World
00:15 Mental Health Day, which have raised vital funds for the charity and given people a safe space to
00:20 speak about their own mental well-being. With the darker winter nights approaching,
00:24 some people may feel an impact on their mental health. We asked people on the streets of
00:29 Manchester what they do to keep their spirits high, particularly around this time of year.
00:33 Definitely exercise, massive, I think. Try and exercise every day, whether it's a walk or,
00:39 you know, playing tennis or going for a run or just anything to get out in the fresh air,
00:44 I would say. Fresh air, exercise. Yeah, I agree. Fresh air, getting back in touch with nature,
00:49 going and seeing, you know, like being aware of the seasons. Like right now I'm like,
00:54 where can we go look at the leaves? You know, it's autumn. Yeah, I agree. Enjoying the nature
01:00 and exercise. And it doesn't have to cost anything, you know, walking out your back door doesn't have
01:04 to cost a thing. You don't have to, you know, subscribe to a really expensive gym or anything
01:09 like that. You can just go out your own back door. Your chain is on, get going. Yeah. Move.
01:14 Self-development. I think you can't find happiness in anybody else unless you need to find it within
01:21 first. So constantly growing, learning more about yourself, evolving as a person. That's what you
01:27 have to do every single day. Develop yourself. I think that's where happiness stems from. You
01:31 can't get that from superficial objects or inside other people. You need to find it within yourself
01:37 and that's doing whatever makes you happy. Even starting off with little things like going to the
01:42 gym, if that clears your mind, baby steps every day. Journaling is a good one. Yeah, journaling
01:47 is a really good one because you start to like learn more about yourself. Like say you read back
01:53 to what you've wrote like a month ago and you realize like how much of a change you've made
01:57 within that just a month. I've just come back from three weeks in Spain where I really focused on
02:02 mental health, to be honest, and a lot of meditation, up my exercise. And since I've come back, just
02:07 following that same pattern, just trying to be aware of my thoughts. I journal quite a lot in
02:11 my notes on my phone. I try and get up as early as possible now, try and see the sunrise and just
02:17 try and get out and get active because when it does get darker, I innately just want to curl up
02:21 in a little ball in bed and just hide away. But it tends to be detrimental. Definitely talk with
02:26 someone, talk with your wife, talk with your family, talk with your boss, talk with people
02:33 who really care about you, get some support to not get in that dark room by yourself. The second one
02:41 is going to be do some sport. Even if you're going for a walk, invite your wife, invite your friend
02:45 for a walk, enjoy life. Socialise, that's for me. Socialising, spending quality time with my family,
02:52 just doing outdoor activities as much as we can. For me, it's definitely walking,
02:59 fresh air. You have to stay positive regardless of what's going on around us.
