00:00 Good afternoon, it's Chris here with your top three stories today, Wednesday October the 11th.
00:04 Number one, Wilco Sheffield, Hillsborough to reopen as Poundland with eight former staff.
00:10 And number two, Sheffield buses, the 15 worst bus routes from complaints about services not running
00:17 or failing to stop. And number three, West Bar, Sheffielders debate £300 million new city centre
00:24 for Sheffield. That's it for me, have a great day and we'll see you tomorrow. Could you tell me
00:29 please of any buildings that you'd like to have blue plaques in Sheffield and what you'd like the
00:33 plaques to be? Yeah I wonder if the Cutlass Hall could have something about women's rights and
00:40 about the suffragette movement. I understand that there are links there with the building
00:44 and in Sheffield generally so it would be kind of finding the right buildings for it.
00:50 Are there any buildings in Sheffield that you think ought to have a blue plaque and what would
00:55 they be? I think probably Leadmill, Winnema, some of the famous bands that have played there.
01:00 Are there any ones in particular that spring to mind? Hope, Arctic Monkeys, I can't think of any others.
01:07 The Ely Cinema. Why would you like to see it there? It's the very, I think it's the oldest now,
01:15 the oldest cinema in Sheffield because the classic's gone. Studio 5, 6 and 7's gone so that
01:21 would be a great idea to save. Then there's the old town hall, what used to be the old court building
01:26 as well. That'd be nice to make into a market which would be brilliant, absolutely. Do you think it
01:34 would suit a blue plaque? Yes, yeah we could have another market down there because everything's
01:38 going down the moor. Nothing for this end, now Wilkinson's has gone which was sad. You need
01:44 to not separate Sheffield and Hough. I go to Barnsley every week and Barnsley's booming.
01:53 Has the old town hall got enough history for a blue plaque do you think?
01:57 Yeah, yeah it was the old town hall so I believe.
02:01 Could you tell me what buildings in Sheffield you'd like to see a blue plaque put on and why?
02:07 The Cuthbert Hall because it's a very lovely building inside and many, many years ago we used
02:13 to go dancing there and we used to have our weddings there actually. It's lovely inside,
02:18 beautiful place. Blue plaques, they're kind of tricky, you have to know quite a bit of history
02:23 of Sheffield but I can maybe think of one person who I think is sorely missed, I sorely missed them
02:29 having watched, well being a bit of a geek towards parliament and having watched the Lords,
02:35 really miss Sir Bob Kerslake who was Chief Executive of the Council here for a good period
02:41 and went on to be bumped up into the Lords very necessarily. He was very effective after running
02:46 the civil service for a while and he made a large difference during these wilderness Tory years.
02:53 He helped hold them to the line and bring them back to finer forms of thought while he was
02:58 working there. I'd love to see a blue plaque of him up on a building.
03:02 On the town hall or something?
03:03 Possibly on the town hall, maybe on Surrey House,
03:08 possibly even in Orchard Square where lots of people will see it and be reminded of him. He's
03:14 sorely missed and sorely lost.
03:16 The Sir Frederick Mapping Building on Mapping Street because of all the people that's worked
03:22 there over 100 years learning to become engineers and everything and I think it's a marvellous
03:27 building from outside.
03:29 Yes I think the Crucible is a good one. I mean they host a lot of snooper championships there,
03:38 a lot of famous people have been there and it's a good venue and they do a good service.
03:45 When I'm disabled and I get a concession to go there and it's changed my life.
03:52 It gets me out and gets to see different people and different things.
