Maguire praises 'classy' Beckham for star's support

England defender Harry Maguire revealed David Beckham reached out with support after recent abuse he suffered

00:08 So it was really nice of him.

00:10 And I really appreciated that.

00:12 No, it meant everything.

00:14 I've spoke about throughout my career

00:17 that David Becker is someone who I looked up to

00:20 and I watched when I was a young boy.

00:22 Unfortunately, I didn't end up on the right wing

00:26 and scoring and assisting as many goals as he has.

00:29 But yeah, he was a big role model when I was growing up.

00:32 And now I think it just shows how classy he is

00:36 to reach out to me and to message me.

00:40 And no, it was something that I really appreciate.

00:43 And yeah, it was touching really.

00:45 He reminded me of my career that I've had today

00:47 and the big moments that I've had in my career.

00:49 And I think, like I say,

00:50 when you're going through tough moments,

00:53 you've got to think on past experiences and past memories

00:56 and where you've gone in your career

00:58 and what you've been through.

00:59 And he's been in that position and he knows what it's like.

01:01 And obviously I watched the documentary

01:04 and I couldn't believe how much he went through at the time.

01:08 So yeah, I know in the documentary, Gary Neville speaks

01:11 a lot about how resilient he is as a person.

01:13 And no, I think he's been a huge role model

01:16 for many footballers growing up, especially in my year.
