Should there be a General Election now - would Keir Starmer be a good Prime Minister?
Transcript
00:00 So do you think there should be a general election now?
00:03 I've been rather out of touch with the news in the last month or so.
00:08 But I don't see any particular need for one.
00:11 I think they should just take their course and let things run on until late next year or January 25 I think is the latest.
00:21 No.
00:23 And it's the Labour Party conference at the minute. Do you think Keir Starmer would make a good Prime Minister?
00:29 Yes I do think so. In general.
00:33 Why is that? Do you like his leadership style or is there anything particularly convincing about his approach that you like?
00:39 I think it's his mental acuity. He's capable of thinking of about six things at once and coming out with them one after the other.
00:47 So I think he's acute.
00:50 So you think Keir Starmer would make a good Prime Minister?
00:52 Yeah.
00:53 And why would you say that?
00:56 He's got integrity. And he'd certainly be better than what we have now.
01:06 And do you think there should be a general election now?
01:08 Do I think there should be a general election now?
01:14 Soon. Soon I think that would be a good idea. Yes.
01:17 While the Tories are low in the polls. Although that doesn't guarantee anything.
01:21 So do you think there should be a general election now?
01:23 Yes.
01:24 And why is that?
01:25 Well for God's sake. You know I mean the country is wrecked. I hate the Tories. I wish all Tories would just vanish from the face of the earth to be honest.
01:39 So bring it on as fast as possible.
01:42 And do you think Keir Starmer would make a good Prime Minister then?
01:45 I can see both sides of it. I can see why people are ambivalent. But I think we're in such a serious situation. Put that aside. He's a safe pair of hands. He's calm. He's actually got policies to pursue. And he's not making false promises. I think it would be mega to get him in. Yeah.
02:08 Do you think he comes across as a leader?
02:10 Yes I think so. Yeah. And not in a stupid charismatic way. It's a slow build I would say. But yes I think. And very interestingly I think he's not afraid of being unpopular.
02:23 And if you look at really great politicians say the Italian Cavour. You know. Well he was one of the greatest politicians ever in the Risorgimento, the unification of Italy. And he basically had long term plans.
02:40 He was prepared to be unpopular and misunderstood. Didn't matter. The object of actually delivering a prosperous and safe country for everybody was his driving force. I mean sadly it killed him in the end if you like. But yes I think that's very interesting.
