A cross-country storm will spread rain across New England and the mid-Atlantic this weekend, spoiling some outdoor plans.

00:00 Well, some improving weather across parts of the Northeast today.
00:04 It's all on the water vapor loop.
00:06 Let me show that to you.
00:07 All right, let's put this into motion.
00:08 I'm going to highlight a couple of things here.
00:10 Note where we have the dry air.
00:12 The dry air is denoted by the yellow shading on the water vapor loop.
00:15 Look where it is.
00:16 Columbus, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., New York City, and even toward the Boston area,
00:20 a little bit of dry air.
00:21 Now, this is along the southern edge of our upper low at a piece of energy moving here
00:26 across northern parts of New England.
00:28 And you'll see this area in blue and white.
00:31 What's that showing you?
00:32 Where you have moisture.
00:33 Where you have moisture, you have clouds, and you have showers.
00:35 So there's a north-south gradient today or delineation.
00:40 The farther north you go, the cloudier you're going to be, and that's where it's going to
00:44 be the coolest because you're going to have some showers today.
00:47 Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, toward Burling today, Caribou, Maine.
00:51 It is not a picture-perfect day.
00:53 There may be a few breaks of sun, but there's certainly more clouds than sun, and there
00:56 will be a couple of showers.
00:58 But the farther south you go, the more sun you get, the more sun you get, the warmer
01:01 you're going to be.
01:02 In fact, temperatures near the historical averages here around Pittsburgh, Washington,
01:06 D.C., New York, Boston, it looks pretty nice.
01:09 Now, as we get into tomorrow, I think most areas are going to be rain-free.
01:16 That upper-level system leaves, right?
01:18 And you get this little wedge of drier air.
01:20 Now, there will be some moisture coming in from the east.
01:23 There could be a couple of showers around Columbus, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh.
01:26 But all in all, Thursday and Friday look okay.
01:29 Notice how temperatures start to drop, though, after Friday.
01:32 You note that in New York City, we go from 65 to 58.
01:36 Washington, D.C., 72 to 66.
01:39 Boston, we're going to be dropping into the 60s Fridays and into the 50s Saturday.
01:44 Here's why.
01:45 The storm coming into the West Coast, into the Northwest, will be moving into the Midwest
01:49 Thursday night into Friday.
01:51 And then here we go again, another soaking rain across southern New England.
01:55 For New York City, this will be the sixth consecutive wet weekend as this storm moves
02:02 through.
02:03 Now, I don't think we're looking at flooding rain, but it's going to be a soaking rain.
02:05 Now, you would think this storm leaves and everything is dandy on Sunday.
02:10 That's not going to be the case.
02:11 See, this storm that's weakening, the primary one, is going to be moving to the east-southeast
02:16 here.
02:17 And that's going to keep the clouds locked in.
02:19 It's going to keep the showers locked in.
02:21 And it also is going to keep the cool locked in as well.
