00:00 The controversial Live Golf series has, it would be fair to say, shaken up the world of golf
00:05 with a number of big name players from the PGA and DP World Tours choosing instead
00:10 to ply their trade in the Saudi-backed series.
00:13 The Live Golf Invitational Series comprises of eight tournaments in 2022,
00:18 seven regular events and a season-ending team championship.
00:22 But what exactly is it? How does it work?
00:24 Why is it different? Let's take a look.
00:28 One of the key differences between the Live Golf Invitational Series
00:31 and what we've become accustomed to from the major tours over the years is the format.
00:36 So each event will be comprised of three rounds and no cut.
00:42 What's more, each round begins with a shotgun start.
00:46 So this enables all 48 players to be on the golf course at the same time
00:50 with groups of three players all starting on different holes.
00:54 Now, the idea here is that each day's action is condensed into a slightly shorter
00:59 period of time, and with the whole field on the golf course at the same time,
01:03 there are fewer breaks in the action.
01:05 Now, in a bid to add an extra layer of interest for the fans,
01:07 the players will compete as individuals, but also within teams.
01:11 There are 12 teams of four players.
01:13 Each team has a captain, and there is a draft system
01:16 to decide which players compete for which teams.
01:19 To entice the big name players to compete in the Live Golf Series,
01:23 there is a huge $225 million of prize money up for grabs.
01:29 The individual winner at each of the seven regular events
01:32 will walk away with a check for $4 million,
01:34 and even the player who finishes last will pocket $120,000.
01:39 The winners of the team event during each regular week will receive $3 million.
01:43 The crescendo of the Live Golf Invitational Series,
01:46 the team championship finale, has double the purse of $50 million.
01:52 As its name suggests, it's a team only affair
01:54 with the prize money shared between all 12 teams.
01:58 The winning team will receive $16 million, and the team finishing last
02:03 will receive $1 million, each player taking a 25% cut of team earnings.
