Gillingham FC chairman says he's in no rush to find a new manager

  • last year
The bookies have been linking names with the Gillingham job all week, but who is at the top of the list?

00:00 Neil Harris joined a struggling Gillingham FC in January 2022 and fought hard to keep the club in
00:06 League One but ultimately succumbed to goal difference, taking the club into the lowest
00:10 rank of the Football League. But over a year and a half later and it's quite a different picture
00:15 for the Gilles, with Harris out the door but the club tipped for a promotion charge this time around.
00:20 Interim manager Keith Millen has today doubled down on ruling himself out of the running to
00:25 replace Harris but says the club is in an attractive position for any prospective manager.
00:30 You read in the press all the names linked with it and all of that but I'm not privy to
00:35 what's going on there. I don't, I haven't got time if I'm honest to to worry about that.
00:40 Whoever comes in is coming into a good dressing room with a good group of players so it's an
00:47 attractive job for someone. The club's definitely in a really good positive mindset generally I feel.
00:56 So it's a good job for somebody and obviously the club want to be successful and get promoted
01:03 so you've got that pressure and whoever comes in you have to deal with that.
01:07 The club's shift in recent success has come after new chairman Brad Gallinson
01:12 has been able to free up cash to bring in new signings since January of this year.
01:16 Speaking on Twitter the chairman updated fans almost a week on saying process going well,
01:23 being methodical and vetting candidates from around the world.
01:26 I am not rushing, this is an important long-term decision but we are confident
01:31 Keith will keep us on track whilst I make the decision on who is the right person to take us
01:36 forward. But who could the next manager be? Well here's who the bookies think could take up the
01:41 job. At the top and the most recent addition is former Newcastle and Sunderland manager Steve
01:47 Bruce who made his professional debut as a player at Gillingham before going on to become a Manchester
01:52 United legend. Others include current Crawley manager Scott Lindsay who recently told the
01:58 media he's not so interested in outside speculation. Karl Robinson is another name
02:03 although has fallen down the order in recent days. The former NK Dons manager brought that
02:07 team to a championship promotion. Alternatively there's Andy Woodman who's currently at Bromley
02:12 Football Club although despite denying interest in previous managerless windows for the Gills
02:17 perhaps new circumstances for the team could change his mind.
02:21 But despite what the bookies may think odds are that whoever takes over as boss at Gillingham FC
02:26 will have some big shoes to fill and some high expectations of success on them.
