Following three confirmed tornadoes in Florida, storms aren't over yet.
Transcript
00:00 Okay, we're following the latest out of Florida where multiple tornadoes touched down on both coasts overnight.
00:05 Three EF2 tornadoes have been confirmed so far statewide,
00:09 hitting Clearwater, Crystal River and Palm Coast.
00:12 Homes, cars and businesses were damaged and debris was left scattered in the streets.
00:17 We spoke with the Emergency Management Operations Manager for Pinellas County
00:21 about what kind of damage they're seeing.
00:25 We had about three multifamily homes with damages, seven single-family homes.
00:30 Three mobile homes were damaged as well too.
00:33 One appears to be destroyed. We need to further inspect that.
00:37 And then several commercial buildings that each had several businesses within them as well sustained some damages.
00:44 He adds that fortunately no one was injured in his county,
00:49 but one woman had to be removed from her home after the roof was blown off.
00:53 Thunderstorms continue to linger across Florida tonight.
00:56 And for more on that we bring in Michelle McLeod.
00:59 What a harrowing experience it was across much of Florida, Michelle.
01:02 Last night into this morning, people waking up with a big mess.
01:05 Very scary and that much moisture, you can't even see it on the radar anymore,
01:10 the stuff that brought the tornadoes.
01:12 Now you're just getting some storms, streamers, I call them streamers,
01:15 of storms in northern Florida and central Florida.
01:18 Man, look at all those lightning strikes, we call them boomers.
01:21 But this is what we're dealing with for the rest of the night.
01:24 I mean, that threat, the more numerous threat, it's really dwindled down in the overnight.
01:30 So really we'll still be looking at the chance for some water spouts at the very least.
01:34 But some localized damaging winds and perhaps some localized flooding.
01:38 You saw the streamers there.
01:40 Well, a front's going to advance and you see it by Saturday.
01:44 It's going to make its way through Mississippi and Alabama and then into Florida by Sunday.
01:48 What that's going to do, it's going to take your temps down 10 to 20 degrees,
01:53 zap the humidity and bring in some gusty winds.
01:58 And if you thought that was enough, that, well, in the beginning of the week,
02:01 things will start to warm up.
02:03 Unfortunately, I do not have that in the forecast for you because that jet stream is still
02:08 dang down into southern Florida, where that upper low just parked over the Carolinas,
02:14 bringing record lows challenged, low humidity and those temps 10 to 15 degrees below your
02:20 historical averages.
02:22 When it comes to the rain, who's going to be seeing most of it is now southern Florida.
02:27 It's beneficial rain near the central Gulf Coast, localized flooding, but of course,
02:32 this could cause some travel delays, especially if you're in poor drainage or low-lying areas.
02:38 So I've got two things simultaneously going on.
02:39 I was telling you about that cold front advancing, but I also have the stationary front on the
02:44 bottom of Florida, just bringing some showers and thunderstorms for Friday.
02:49 And the temps, you're going to only see them in the seventies and eighties.
02:53 I mean, look, 64 in Atlanta with some showers, not looking the best day for Atlanta.
02:59 Now check out these showers Friday morning where that stationary front is.
03:02 You can kind of tell where they are because they're just kind of parked and sitting over
03:06 the same place as you're getting a Friday evening.
03:09 Saturday morning, here we go.
03:10 Another stream of showers making its way through central Florida.
03:14 And we've got some showers in the Carolinas.
03:16 Look at that bulk of showers going through places like Raleigh by Saturday afternoon
03:20 and really intensifying by Saturday evening.
03:24 It's kind of commonplace to see showers in southern Florida in the afternoon.
03:28 So I'm not going to narrate that for you, but you can see the elephant in the room.
03:32 So that's what's happening Saturday night and then going into Sunday.
03:36 And look at all that green and yellow on the map.
03:39 Things have cooled down significantly, Kevin.
