00:00 Hello, Alex Miller and Joe Cran here from the Sheffield Star. A few minutes after speaking to Danny Rule for the first time, the new Sheffield Wednesday manager, pretty poorly kept secret, but he spoke really well as I think we probably expected him to.
00:15 Yeah, I mean, look, obviously the one thing that a lot of people were wondering was language and whether there will be absolutely no language barrier here. That will not be an issue. His English is very, very good. But yeah, just in a football perspective, he spoke really well, was really insightful about his philosophies and the way that he wants Wednesday to play, why he came here, the things that excite him about this job.
00:41 And yeah, just he said before, it's an exciting appointment. If he's given the tools that he needs, then I think this is a very exciting one. There was a nice little touch I thought when he came in. He made his way around the room and introduced himself to everybody, all the media. It's little things, it's not a massive deal, but I think as a first impression, it's a really nice first, nice touch.
01:06 Nice touches. Yeah. To paraphrase Alan Partridge, he seems like a thoroughly modern man. He's obviously fully into his data and analysis. I mean, he just is like a young man and he is. And you know, there's a lot that's quite exciting about that.
01:23 Yeah, absolutely. I mean, it's a bit crazy that he's a year older than myself. We've got Lee Gregory who's a year older than him, I think. So there's all these kinds of things that he's got to navigate through with his age. But I mean, we spoke about that and he doesn't seem to be at all bothered. You know, he spoke about the human element and all those kinds of things.
01:44 So, yeah, I think it's a very, very exciting time for Sheffield Wednesday now. We're in a position where there are views for the future. I think a lot of Wednesday fans will see this appointment and see it as something that obviously the immediate goal is to stay up, but there is a bit more of a long-term vision it feels with us.
02:06 Well said, Joe. You're very professional. We're talking about Danny Roehl and he just walks past us. In terms of that age question, look, that's been, since he was first linked to the job, 34-year-old, not managed before, but he was very honest and open about that. It's about experience. He's worked at the top level of European football for a long time. He's worked at international level. Age is just a number, perhaps?
02:33 I mean, when I asked him about Lee Gregory, he said, well, Lewandowski was older than me as well. So, I think that probably shut that down straight away. Look, with the size of the, ego is just the wrong word, but the size of the personalities that I'm sure he's worked with because of where he's been. Yeah, that is something that will definitely stand him in good stead.
02:54 He seemed genuinely excited about the opportunity. He spoke a lot about the potential of Sheffield Wednesday. He spoke about how excited, I mean, he's going to the 21s game today, for instance, you know, like straight in the door and straight watching the academy. It's a good sign, I think.
03:09 Well, we'll wrap up there. There's plenty of reaction to come as ever at thestar.co.uk. We'll be tapping away at our laptops. We're long into the weekend and then building up to a big week for Danny Ruhle and Sheffield Wednesday. And where are you going to be for that? I'm on holiday, so Joe will be tapping away at his laptop. Yeah, and obviously the trip down to fellow strugglers Watford. Danny Ruhle spoke about a real standout line for me was opponents need to know that Wednesday are back.
03:32 Let's hope that he can enact some change in the next week or so and really get things going down at Vicarage Road. Keep it locked as ever to thestar.co.uk. I'll put my teeth in.
