Transcript
00:00 Who has the strongest style opinion?
00:02 Me or wifey?
00:02 I gotta give that to me.
00:08 You know what I'm saying?
00:09 You know we help each other out,
00:10 but I really help a lot, you know?
00:11 I get it.
00:13 She get it too.
00:14 Alpha.
00:16 Hey, what's up?
00:17 This your boy Offset.
00:18 And Esquire asked me to explain some of these things.
00:20 So let's get into it.
00:21 (upbeat music)
00:23 Explain how you approach mad style.
00:29 I treat it like an accessory.
00:30 So if there's a piece, a hoodie, or a pant
00:33 that matches, then I throw it on.
00:35 Or sometimes I just don't want to be bothered
00:37 and I throw it on, but I'm gonna throw it on
00:38 in a fashionable way because fashion is everything.
00:42 Is there a trick to wearing leather pants?
00:44 They don't go with everything, so that's for sure.
00:48 But me, I wear them a lot in different ways.
00:50 I wear them slim, I wear them baggy,
00:52 depending on the fit and depending on the cut of the top.
00:55 These are Celine leather pants with the silver studs
00:58 on the side with the Prada cropped leather top.
01:01 I did that because it was cropped
01:03 and didn't like how the pants were slim
01:06 and it was firm leather, so it stacked a little bit
01:09 on the rigs that I got on.
01:10 So that's why I chose that.
01:12 Do you feel like you're an OG Atlanta rapper now?
01:15 Hell no, I ain't no OG, shit.
01:17 How old you gotta be to be OG?
01:18 I ain't no damn OG.
01:20 That's really a crazy question.
01:21 I kinda don't even wanna answer that.
01:22 I don't even want that question in the atmosphere.
01:24 That's kinda crazy.
01:25 Niggas trying, niggas.
01:27 [laughing]
01:29 Hey, you gotta do the math.
01:31 This is my wife.
01:35 My wife is calling me.
01:36 Who is the most influential designer out there right now?
01:42 I'ma say Virgil because he's still out here
01:45 because you still see his product
01:47 and still see his angles and things
01:48 and he's still the influence right now.
01:51 So I gotta give it to V.
01:53 You gotta always hold your V's up.
01:55 Explain your friendship with Jamie Lee Curtis.
01:58 Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the coolest actors
02:00 I ever ran into in life.
02:01 I hit her up on the DM to be a part of my content
02:05 and she was like, "You don't even follow me, bitch."
02:07 And it was like, "Oh, shit."
02:09 And then when she pulled up,
02:10 I'm like, "She gonna pull up security,
02:12 "make sure the house is situated."
02:14 And she was so down, I heard her laugh
02:15 and she knocked it out in like 30 minutes and was done.
02:17 She's a real, true professional.
02:19 And then I showed her my Michael Myers tag.
02:20 I'm like, "I've been a fan of you."
02:21 She's like, "You don't got a tag."
02:22 I showed her.
02:24 But yeah, that's my girl, man, she cool.
02:26 What do you love most about James Brown?
02:28 First thing is he's from Georgia.
02:30 He created soul, in my opinion.
02:33 He's a big inspiration to my favorite artist in the world,
02:36 Michael Jackson, with his footwork
02:37 and the way he performed and the craft,
02:39 the showmanship he showed in his performance.
02:41 I always respect my legends and I always do my research
02:43 'cause they really gave us the floor plans
02:45 to do what we do now.
02:47 And fashionably, he was fire too.
02:50 Like, he was really having a V-neck bodysuit.
02:54 He had it all the way past the belly button too.
02:56 Was there any inspiration in my outfit related to my album?
03:00 Yes, you must find the eggs yourself though,
03:02 'cause I'm not gonna tell you.
03:03 You gotta find it yourself, pay attention, people.
03:06 Detail is what tells it all.
03:08 How has Versace played a part in your style evolution?
03:12 Versace was the jumpstart.
03:15 The designer always wanted to be into
03:18 during the time of like 2013.
03:20 The silk unbuttoned shirts with the jewelry,
03:22 with the different rings was a thing.
03:24 It was the first time diving into high fashion.
03:27 Explain why you were with Whitney.
03:31 I think I was nine years old.
03:33 Like, my mama really loved Whitney Houston
03:35 and I always been into music.
03:37 My mom seen like the billboards,
03:39 seen the opportunity, we pulled up
03:41 and my mom told me like, when the music plays,
03:42 just go out there and dance, see what happens.
03:44 And it was like, we're gonna put you
03:45 in a Whitney Houston video.
03:47 And I'm like, what?
03:48 I just felt like I was supposed to stand out.
03:50 If you look at the picture, I got the gray suit on
03:52 and everybody else got the dark black or dark navy blue.
03:55 And then if you look at the video,
03:57 I'm having a lot of cameos.
03:59 So I knew I was standing out.
04:01 In moments like this, like when I might be feeling down
04:03 with something that's going on, like musically or anything,
04:06 I always look at this and remind myself
04:08 like I'm meant to be a star at the end of the day.
04:12 So yeah.
04:13 What will your first movie project be about?
04:16 This might be a little cocky,
04:17 but my first music project will be about me.
04:20 A biopic of my journey,
04:22 showing how it was for me having a kid
04:24 when I was 17 years old.
04:26 The first one with a kid out of all my friends.
04:29 That would probably be what the film would be about
04:30 'cause I know I'll be able to execute it
04:32 and be able to like have more than just a project.
04:35 I have emotions and I would really feel it.
04:37 When I come to do an interview for a specific,
04:44 like say I'm coming to do an interview for an album, right?
04:46 Being a creator first of it's hard
04:48 when you're judged by the rest of the world.
04:50 And then I come sit down and you want to talk to me
04:52 about something you've seen on the blog
04:54 or anything like that.
04:55 So it's like, it's a distraction to the project.
04:57 And then, so then it's like, I just should leave.
05:00 What style of advice have I given my kids?
05:04 I don't ever probably put them in a direction
05:05 'cause they're children.
05:07 They're just fashionably inclined already
05:08 'cause especially like culture.
05:10 She's like super like fashionista.
05:14 The other day she had like a cardigan on
05:17 and then she just wrapped it around her neck
05:19 out of nowhere and tied it up.
05:21 I'm like, what you doing?
05:22 She's like, it's my style.
05:23 Be you, you don't have to do what everybody else is doing.
05:25 Be free.
05:26 What do you think Yoshi means to fashion?
05:29 Yoshi means legendary, classic, organic
05:33 'cause they stick to their style.
05:34 They don't jump from like trends.
05:37 And he's a godfather, like he's been doing this ago.
05:40 You gotta respect him and pay your dues.
05:42 How has fatherhood affected your personal style?
05:45 I don't think it has.
05:46 I keep my style as my style.
05:48 I keep it the same.
05:49 Everything I wear, they can wear.
05:50 So not really.
05:52 Explain the science project.
05:56 My jewelry, my diamonds, I was trying to learn more
05:59 and get more information on the things
06:01 that I was purchasing.
06:02 And then Elliot, my jeweler, started giving me the game
06:05 on this is this, that's why this looks like this.
06:07 If you put a honeycomb set,
06:09 it'll make the diamonds hit better than a prong set.
06:11 Biggest thing I think people should know
06:13 when buying a diamond is understanding the color.
06:16 To the regular eye,
06:17 you can't tell the difference on what you're buying.
06:19 They could be telling you something
06:20 that's a hundred grand, it's worth 10,000.
06:22 This is a very tricky game.
06:24 So make sure you know what you're doing
06:25 'cause I always wanna know where my money going.
06:28 Who was better at a legendary style, you or Jay?
06:30 I think me and Jay, we was in the right pocket.
06:32 We both was in the pocket.
06:34 That's a cultural thing.
06:35 We grew up with our grandmas and aunties teaching us that.
06:37 And I don't feel like it was a competition thing.
06:39 It was more like a family moment.
06:40 It was a vibe and it wasn't intentional.
06:42 It just was, it was just a moment
06:44 and it was a beautiful moment.
06:46 Everybody was having a great time.
06:47 Do you give much relationship advice to your friends?
06:52 No, because they're not married.
06:54 I don't know how.
06:55 So it's like, I can't really tell you.
06:57 And I try to stay away from the personal,
06:59 like that personal, 'cause that gets sticky.
07:01 I'm not gonna really angle you in a position
07:03 to do something or make a decision for you
07:06 'cause we grown men, especially with your girl,
07:08 it's a different world.
07:09 Yeah.
07:10 What's your favorite up and coming Atlanta artist right now?
07:14 Mango Fool.
07:16 Yeah, man, y'all should check Mango Fool out, man.
07:18 He's going crazy.
07:20 He's something to watch out for.
07:21 He on my album.
07:21 I asked him to give y'all a little sneak peek of that.
07:25 He's on the album.
07:26 What can fans expect from my new album?
07:29 You can expect great production, different flows,
07:31 me trying to find different pockets.
07:33 I wanted to change the sound.
07:34 I didn't want nothing to sound like my priors.
07:36 It's more of a new sound.
07:37 My album is very fun.
07:39 A lot of my music will match my visuals
07:41 because I'm a visual artist
07:42 and I want people to see the art that I'm painting.
07:45 I want my songs to tell a story.
07:46 So that's what you can expect from your boy.
07:49 Any plans to release more music with the wife?
07:53 Always.
07:53 We're gonna always keep it in the family.
07:54 We're gonna always keep the hits coming.
07:57 That's a no brainer.
07:58 Every time.
07:59 Hey, what's up?
08:00 This your boy Offset doing Explain This with Esquire.
08:03 Love these guys.
08:04 Y'all make sure y'all tune in to my new album.
