00:00 Bona's got to be careful that Dirk's making his move on mutants. Here's your
00:04 look at the NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series Dirk Savage
00:08 and Bona Lisa.
00:11 [Dirk Savage and Bona Lisa's Cartoons]
00:18 [Dirk Savage and Bona Lisa's Cartoons]
00:41 Dirk Savage is a man who was hired by AJ Howard to capture mutants. He
00:46 originally believed that all mutants were evil including the Teenage Mutant Ninja
00:49 Turtles. He eventually betrays Howard after realizing his employers true
00:53 intentions and that most mutants were friendly after all. While Dirk is dealing
00:57 with mutants, Bona Lisa has to worry about her physics test. Before we get a
01:01 closer look at Dirk Savage and Bona Lisa let me send out a big thank you to the
01:04 folks over at NECA that did provide this sample we could have a look at. A bit of
01:08 a strange pairing I feel the fact that they would combine these two characters
01:11 just because again like when I consider Bona Lisa I feel like she should have
01:15 been better paired with Phineas Filch. Either way though let's grab the tape
01:18 measure and see how tall the figures stand. First with Dirk Savage the figure
01:22 factoring in his hair is about six and a quarter inches in height or it's about
01:26 16 centimeters tall. On to then the slightly smaller Bona Lisa. First though
01:31 in inches you're looking at the figure of Bona Lisa being about five and a half
01:34 of that and in centimeters you're looking at her being about 14 and a half
01:38 centimeters tall. Well considering that Bona Lisa tried to pretend that Raphael
01:43 was her date on McDonald Crump's yacht I thought it would probably make the most
01:46 sense to bring in Raphael for comparison. You can see that while compared to her
01:49 bow the color scheme is pretty good on these. I prefer at least when it comes to
01:53 displaying a lot of my turtle toys to be displaying them with the darker colored
01:56 turtles and I think it works best especially with Bona Lisa considering
01:59 her olive colored skin. For a figure to then compare with Dirk Savage, while I
02:03 don't still have the version 2 April O'Neil that would be slightly bit taller
02:07 with a longer neck, I did though have the version 1 April O'Neil so you can see
02:11 what it looks like with Dirk Savage. What I like about this box set is that I
02:14 don't feel it favors any one particular character when it comes to the stocking
02:17 of accessories. Bona Lisa I feel has just as much as Dirk Savage. Although Bona
02:22 Lisa's are all sort of more school related, Dirk Savage just basically
02:25 wields a bunch of weapons. Now first for Bona Lisa's accessories, why don't we look
02:29 at a pair of books. They're not identical of pair but you can see that they're
02:32 probably sculpting using the exact same mold. One though is chemistry and I
02:36 believe though she is a physics student so one of course is a physics book. These
02:40 are nicely paired with one another. I'm sure you probably could have these
02:43 displayed with Bona Lisa but I'm thinking also of a bigger picture, a much
02:46 grander picture. If I only could come across a little tiny table, maybe at some
02:51 point we might get ourselves a little lab table for Donatello. I would love to
02:54 really have these displayed on Donatello's table. Certainly that's
02:57 something I could see the the turtle actually studying both chemistry and
03:00 physics. She comes in clue with those. She also comes in clue with the various
03:04 different lab accessories. She comes first of all with a tray of beakers.
03:07 Each one of these, these are actually test tubes I should say, these are all
03:11 individually removable. Careful not to lose any one of these. They all seem to
03:15 be all the same, granted the colors have been differently done here. You've got a
03:18 pastel blue, pastel pink and pointing with it you got a pastel green and again
03:23 all of these are removable. They're actually a lot harder I find to put them
03:27 back in than they are to remove. I'm not really sure why that is but again I
03:31 would certainly like to have this displayed with Donatello I think instead.
03:34 She also comes included with something that unfortunately I have already lost.
03:38 She comes included I guess with this being a beaker. The beaker did have a
03:42 little tiny cork. Normally I would have said that's great the fact that a cork
03:47 is removable but not necessarily the case when removing out of the tray and
03:50 not assuming that the cork is removable because when I did tip it the cork fell
03:54 out and luckily none of the liquid fell out and ended up exploding. But I do wish
04:00 though that the cork was removable because now I can't even find where it's
04:04 been. It's basically about this small so good luck me even finding it. It sits
04:08 inside of a tray and I guess that would be also sitting on top of a Bunsen
04:11 burner but nice the fact that she also comes included. I don't really love the
04:14 fact that the cork was removable because again its whereabouts remain unknown and
04:18 then she also comes included with this as well which again it's just a variation of
04:21 a beaker. Pink though fluid down below here nicely colored here and again you
04:26 have that little I guess this would be the part that would siphon off the
04:29 liquid then into something else. This is basically a very rubbery plastic so she
04:32 comes included with those. She then also as well comes included with a bunch of
04:35 series of interchangeable hands so like for example with a test tube she comes
04:39 as suitable hands for holding those. She also has as well closed fists. I can't
04:44 really see myself ever really displaying the figure with closed fists other than
04:47 if you want to just be punching people like Phineas for example. But she also
04:50 comes included with those and she also comes included with a pair of relaxed
04:53 hands. Now just to move those aside getting also a closer look the other
04:58 thing that that comes included with Mona Lisa just bear with me while I move
05:01 everything out of the way. She also comes included with an angrier expression as
05:04 well. Based on the way that she's making this expression I hate to be in
05:09 Raphael's case if he missed a date. I do like the expression on her face. I'm not
05:13 only sure if I would decide to display her with the angry head sculpt or rather
05:16 instead just stick with the more neutral happier expression but both of them are
05:20 equally well sculpted and very nicely painted to the point where even they
05:24 outline the areas of her eyes, added the pupils, the little tiny eyelashes and
05:28 also as well the eyebrows. Now Mona Lisa I think was only in a one-shot episode.
05:33 It was Raphael meets his match. I'm gonna go ahead and remove her head. The head I
05:37 did have some tough time to remove initially. I just run a few passes with
05:40 the hairdryer just to soften up the plastic and if you did want to change
05:43 out to a more angrier expression Mona Lisa the head then just pops back into
05:47 place. Again if you're having any tough time removing and then adding head
05:51 sculpts back onto the ball joints always go the right of heating them first. This
05:55 one has since cooled a little bit so it's gonna be not as easy to put back
05:59 into place. You know on second thought though looking at the two by the way the
06:02 hair seems to be identical between the two. I like this one but maybe I might
06:07 just settle on the idea of giving her an angry expression because I just think it
06:10 works a little bit nicer especially also gives you a chance as well to see the
06:13 really nice additional paintwork that they applied to her teeth and the
06:17 panel lining around it. She'd also also have now this is the mutated version of
06:22 Mona Lisa. She inherits of course the name from the painting the very famous
06:25 painting Mona Lisa but at one point again she was a physics student so I
06:29 hope at some point we maybe get a human version of Mona Lisa. Nicely colored
06:33 though she has a little scarf there painted in pink. The pink happens to also
06:36 match as well the bandana that she has across the top of her head as well and a
06:39 very well painted figure. I really feel like though for the person of admission
06:43 for the set is more Dirk Savage. I really like to look at him but I will say though
06:47 to the credit of Mona Lisa she turned out to be a really nice looking figure
06:50 considering the fact that really she is standing alone as a one-shot character.
06:54 It's nice to see that Nneka spends just as much time and effort to sculpt and
06:57 paint this figure even though she really only made one appearance as far as I
07:00 know at least. The articulation on the figure I mean first of all we kind of
07:04 just look at the rest of the figures body she has a nice darker coloring on
07:07 the back. Of course the one thing about the cartoon turtles is again notably is
07:10 the fact that she has the darker shadowing on the one side the brighter
07:13 than section on the front side and of course she does have a really nice
07:16 additional dark colored tail but for the poseability of Mona Lisa the head is on
07:20 a ball joint so it's gonna rotate back and forth up and down also rocks back
07:23 and forth as well. The arms hinge out at 90 degrees no problems there you can
07:27 take the arms and rotate them all the way around. I did notice that with my
07:30 shoulders at least not my shoulders not that guy behind the camera but Mona
07:34 Lisa's shoulders are a tad bit on the tight side just be careful when you're
07:37 doing this. Swivel at the bicep the figure has a double hinge on the elbow
07:40 and the hands as webby as they are do rotate also all the way around. She has
07:45 no ball joint at the top of the torso she also has splits on the
07:49 legs being the provided ball joints on the insides of her thighs of course you
07:53 can take the legs and move forward and move them back just double hinge on the
07:56 knee. I didn't notice on mine also as well there's a lot of tight joints on
08:00 Mona Lisa which normally wouldn't be a complaint at all I would much rather
08:02 tighter joints on these figures than overly loose joints. Her feet also move
08:06 back and forth you can also rock them back and forth a little bit as well and
08:09 her tail as probably would be expected does have a ball joint so you can rotate
08:13 that all the way around. The tail also certainly helps to add a little bit of
08:16 stability to the character so all in all like it's a really nice looking figure.
08:20 Now I go have to wonder I did mention this at the beginning of the review why
08:23 they wouldn't have not packed Captain Filch or Phineas Filch along with Mona
08:28 Lisa because when I ever think of Mona Lisa for what little we see of her in
08:32 the original animated series I always then tend to think of her with Phineas
08:36 Filch again maybe it may had something to do with the fact that maybe Phineas
08:39 is gonna be packed with a more more interesting looking character that's my
08:42 only guess at least but I mean to have Dirk Savage still packed along with her
08:47 is still a nice touch but I think I would much rather have had Captain Filch
08:50 instead. On to though the accessories now that come included with Dirk Savage and
08:54 like I said he does come with quite a lot. First the figure comes in clue with
08:58 a cattle prod. This has been very nicely painted you can see majority is darker
09:03 blue and then they've added some accented areas here in a darker gray I'm
09:06 trying to do my best to get my hand out of the way nice white on the end and of
09:09 course you got the cattle prod needle there on the end I think it's a cattle
09:12 prod from what I remember. This can be of course fit in his hand he does have a
09:16 couple of gripping hands for the job you can just take that fit this into his
09:19 hand. The thing about all these is though you really want to be careful though
09:22 that the paint isn't gonna start to flake you can see a little bit of it
09:25 right there always best recommended to really heat the hand in hot water I mean
09:29 if you're having any problems. One thing I will say though about the hands is
09:31 that the plastic used for them is fairly soft enough that even if you don't have
09:36 access to hot water you can always just pry the fingers away from the palm you
09:39 can see right there. The figure as well comes included with sort of a almost
09:43 more futuristic gun. The gun itself again nicely done here in brown plastic some
09:48 additional gray for the barrels on the front also has a strap down below here
09:51 and then can also be fit into his hand. Now again the hardest thing about these
09:55 is that they're just always very difficult to get into hands. I have
09:59 heated these hands prior to hitting the record button but over the time of course
10:03 just me talking away the plastics now started to cool. You kind of have to put
10:07 them in on an angle but he does have the means to properly hold it it's just a
10:10 little bit more difficult now once the plastic is cooled. I usually what I end
10:14 up doing is heat the hand in hot water and then while it's still hot I put
10:18 whatever weapon that the character is supposed to be wielding inside so it
10:21 then stretches the hand to shape that that make that shape or to hold that
10:25 shape. Now this actually does have a place to store other than just his hands
10:29 he does have this holster that does then attach on the back of his bandolier. The
10:33 problem with this though is that you have to in order to get the gun in place
10:36 first of all you have to remove this strap and I already don't like that. I
10:41 worry that with the thinness of the plastic not to mention the softness of
10:45 it as well that it's always more prone to ripping. There's really no other way
10:49 to do it unfortunately but this basically will then plug onto his body.
10:52 This is the peg that's provided we're gonna get back to that more in a moment.
10:55 What we're gonna do is we're gonna take the blaster and really it's best advised
10:59 now again I did already heat this I probably could have heated this just a
11:03 little bit more if it does help at all you can kind of get your thumb in there
11:06 just to pry the plastic just to make enough of a ravine that you can then
11:10 slide the gun in place. The problem with this also as well is you probably can
11:14 already guess for yourself I mean obviously the straps gonna go back in
11:17 place that's not the problem necessarily but with the gun being so close in
11:20 quarters like this I feel there's a risk that this could start scraping the paint
11:24 on the inside so like if the side brown for example hasn't happened yet but I'm
11:29 sure the number of times of moving this in and out of this chamber that I'm
11:33 probably gonna start ripping and scratching away the plastic paint on the
11:36 sides so you may not want to do it too often. The cattle prod by the way also
11:40 does attach there's a little clip there on the side just be careful of doing
11:43 this though you can also attach the cattle prod in place too. I'm not gonna
11:47 really attach the cattle prod yet because if you look at the back of the
11:50 figure for Dirk Savage you'll see that there's a hole right here now if you
11:54 take the gun it's a little hard to do first you kind of have to like line
11:58 everything up here so you have kind of like a keyhole shape you want to make
12:02 sure also first of all that this strap is out of the way but if you move this
12:05 in place then you can then line the two up together and you snap that into his
12:10 into his torso now if you're having tough times to do that you can also just
12:14 lift the bandolier up a little bit so then you first of all you can get that
12:18 in place and then plug it into his torso from there. The last thing you really
12:22 don't want to do is put any pressure against this clip because that's gonna
12:26 happen that's gonna happen and then you'd be disappointed that you broke
12:29 your figure. I mean you really don't even have to fight to get that into the hole
12:33 on the back of this body. The bandolier is more than enough to kind of keep
12:36 everything in place then from there you're gonna go ahead and take yourself
12:39 the prod cattle prod. I'm gonna just snap that in place and now Dirk Savage has
12:43 the means to store all of his weapons except for one. While he is doing that
12:46 though let's look at the few remaining weapons that he has. He has himself like
12:49 a little ray gun again episode-specific nicely colored here between medium grays
12:54 dark grays and the additional red on the end of the barrel really nice looking
12:58 gun. He also has a pair of restraining cuffs which he does use actually I think
13:02 on Tokka and he also uses it as well I think for the the frogs if I remember
13:07 serves me correctly. These are fairly long enough to that it reaches I mean if
13:11 you have a larger size mutant for example or even if for example you
13:14 wanted to bring yourself in Raphael just bring his arms forward like this you
13:17 really don't even have to really remove the hands there's enough clearance
13:21 obviously with the cuffs themselves that you just slide over top of his hands you
13:25 got yourself a restraining cuff. Mondo Gecko if memory serves me correct also
13:29 did come in clue with one of the restraining I don't know if it was a was
13:33 it a cuff I think it was a cuff not similar to like this necessarily but he
13:37 also came in something included with something that also was from Dirk Savage.
13:40 Savage is really across the board has had many of his accessories sort of
13:44 sprinkled in there with some of the other sets we've looked at before like
13:48 for example this he also comes in clue with like this foot trap the trap itself
13:52 I think he actually kicks over and it basically just a little trap like this
13:56 top part does actually remove and then again some really nice detailing on the
13:59 inside of it if you though didn't want to use it necessarily for a trap if
14:02 you're always kind of thinking in your head hey creative ways creative ways
14:06 what else can I really do with this oh well why not you can actually use that
14:09 for something for Donatello it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to use it
14:12 specifically the way it was designed for the episode why not just use this as
14:15 something that Donatello would make maybe like something maybe put one of
14:19 his beakers in for example you can have that like that for example you can also
14:22 even pretend that that's something inside of shredders lair you can really
14:25 do whatever you want with these but really overall nicely detailed you can
14:29 see again some nice red on the insides of all these additional buttons done in
14:32 red some nice additional panel lining all in all just really nice accessories
14:36 and for of course wrapping up the rest of this he also comes in clue with a
14:40 couple of gripping hands for holding any of the weapons he also comes in clue
14:43 with one specifically for holding the cattle prod and those are all the
14:46 accessories that come in clue with the figure boy what a relief off my
14:50 shoulders okay then on to Dirk Savage for this I'm actually gonna go ahead and
14:54 take the liberty of removing the holster just because I don't want that getting
14:57 broken in any way a Dirk Savage though really nice looking figure Dirk Savage
15:02 actually came from the episode of Dirk Savage mutant hunters so right away you
15:06 already know the episode is all about him the detailing done to him is really
15:10 nice I would almost say and then you probably would also agree as well that
15:13 Dirk Savage is that I feel the price of admission when it comes to set nothing
15:16 really slouching on Mona Lisa necessarily but I think like there's a
15:19 lot of cool stuff going on here with Dirk Savage the coloring is really good
15:22 the head sculpt is fantastic I really like again like he's got the really high
15:26 hair like this I don't know what inspiration they had when designing Dirk
15:30 Savage but I feel in a way like it has a little nod to like Bruce Campbell very
15:34 big chin very high hair I feel it looks a little bit like Bruce Campbell I might
15:39 be a little wrong by that of course the coloring is nicely carried not only just
15:42 for his head with the five o'clock shadow but he also has the darker
15:45 coloring nice vibrant coloring I should say for the red for his outfit shoulder
15:48 pads nicely handled here with some additional brown and gray anything you
15:52 would expect to see in this figure that would be seen in the cartoon you'd also
15:55 find here on the figure as well he's got a grenade he's got a few little things
15:58 also detailed here also in his belt really all in all a nice nice looking
16:03 figure now Dirk Savage similar to Mona Lisa had some problems with joints
16:07 mainly more the fact that he had really tight knees and they're actually still
16:10 really tight still I'm not too bothered by tight knees I mean if anything it's
16:15 only just a bit of bummer for me to try to show you guys the articulation points
16:18 when things like knees for example are super tight but I would rather
16:22 rather have tight joints on these knees than super loose joints I'm gonna have
16:25 the figure falling over at all for the articulation though on Dirk Savage his
16:30 head's gonna be on a ball joint so of course it rotates all the way around it
16:32 looks up and looks down and he actually has I just want to stop myself for a
16:37 second he has a ball joint right here and he also has a ball joint like right
16:40 here so really between the two the figure actually has double ball joints
16:44 one in the head and one also in the neck as well shoulders do come out and even
16:49 though his shoulders sit as far out as they do it doesn't necessarily limit the
16:53 articulation for the figures arms you can easily move them forward you can
16:56 also move them as well back a swivel at the bicep the figure also possesses a
17:00 double hinge on the elbow and the hands rotate all the way around upper torso
17:04 once again is on a ball joint further from that a little bit lower down to the
17:07 belt he also has a secondary ball joint to base the abdomen legs do split out
17:10 once again on ball joints you can take those legs forward and back yes so at
17:14 the top of the thigh double hinge on the knee no articulation here for Dirk's
17:19 boots although you can still move his feet up and down and back and forth one
17:24 of those sets again I feel like Dirk Savage probably could have been paired
17:27 with somebody else not that I'm necessarily knocking the fact that neck
17:30 had decided to pair Dirk Savage along with Mona Lisa but I feel like with Mona
17:34 Lisa now that she gets packed along with Dirk Savage does that not mean we're
17:39 never gonna get ourselves Phineas Filch I certainly hope we do Phineas
17:43 Filch plays a pivotal role when it came to Mona Lisa's episode so I'd like to
17:47 certainly see him make some appearance in a figure form it probably will
17:51 ultimately mean that if we are gonna be getting ourselves Filch, Filch will probably be
17:54 paired then along with another character that may not necessarily be specific to
17:58 the episode that he appears in of course when you have two characters like this
18:01 get a lot of accessories and that's one thing again consistently good about the
18:05 stuff that neck is doing with the TMNT line is that they include as many
18:08 accessories as they do and as hopefully I showed you guys in this review just
18:12 because again like you get yourself really interesting accessories that are
18:15 specific say to this character does not mean at all that you couldn't easily use
18:19 these accessories for something else I'm looking at this and I'm thinking it's
18:22 something I would have seen in the Technodrome or even something in the
18:25 sewer that Donatello was currently working on while I may question exactly
18:29 why these two were paired together I mean Mona Lisa I don't necessarily
18:33 consider as a character I would have boxed right away with say Dirk Savage
18:36 Phineas Filch as I did mention in this review would definitely make a lot more
18:40 sense to me but does that now mean because Mona Lisa gets paired along with
18:43 Dirk Savage is there still gonna be a likelihood that we are gonna be getting
18:47 herself Captain Filch I certainly hope so because I would love to have him
18:50 displayed on the shelf along with Mona Lisa for the time being at least I'm not
18:54 gonna be probably displaying Mona Lisa and Dirk Savage together no no in fact
18:58 Mona Lisa will be paired right next to her beau Raphael and I think what I
19:02 might just end up doing is put Dirk Savage displayed with the cartoon
19:06 versions of Toca and Raza. Toca and Raza for me at least displayed on my shelf
19:10 they seemed a little out of place just because again like there was I think one
19:14 or two episode characters and they never really fit in I felt with the universe
19:18 of the cartoon animation world of TMNT stuff so for me at least I'm gonna be
19:22 displaying I think Dirk Savage with the cartoon versions of Toca and Raza. What
19:27 do you guys think of this set let me know down below in the comment section
19:29 as already mentioned this is a Target store exclusive so if you're lucky
19:33 enough and you happen to live near a Target store or somewhat in the vicinity
19:37 of a Target store definitely check out your local targets and see if this one's
19:41 still sitting on the shelf it has been as far as I know sitting on the shelf
19:44 for probably the last couple of months so the likelihood of you finding this
19:47 will of course only vary depending on what's Target stores you have sometimes
19:51 it actually benefits you if you're if you live in a smaller area like a
19:54 smaller town you happen to have a Target stores where there really isn't a lot of
19:57 collector hitting those stores on a regular basis maybe your likelihood is a
20:01 little higher that you might be able to find sets like this still sitting on the
20:05 shelves but if you have had a chance to find this let me know down below in the
20:08 comment section what you guys think of this set and who else would you like to
20:11 see as a box set release from NECA toys I mean I know we're kind of getting down
20:15 to like the wire when it comes to the things that NECA can still do for the
20:19 TMNT cartoon line but with considering the fact that Mona Lisa was sort of a
20:23 one-shot character there's still a very good likelihood that we are gonna be
20:26 getting still a lot more TMNT stuff in the not so distant future big thank you
20:31 once again to the folks over at NECA that did provide once again the sample
20:33 Dirk Savage and Mona Lisa if you guys enjoyed this video want to hit with like
20:36 if you guys are enjoying the content and would like to certainly stick around for
20:40 more TMNT stuff you may have noticed also as well there's been an influx of
20:44 TMNT reviews here on this channel we're playing a bit of a catch-up game now so
20:48 if that's the kind of thing you like to come back to this channel for and you
