00:02 Hi, my name's Nick Drane.
00:06 I'm a PGA professional and master fitting specialist
00:08 here at the Titleist Performance Center at Woburn.
00:10 This video, we're gonna talk about
00:12 how to hit your fairway wood off the ground.
00:15 (upbeat music)
00:19 One of the most common mistakes I see golfers make
00:22 when they try to hit a fairway wood off the ground
00:23 is that they try and lift the golf ball into the air.
00:26 So from a good setup position,
00:29 I see that their weight transfer
00:31 works back to their trail side
00:33 and they're trying to lift it in the air,
00:36 catching it either in the bottom of the club
00:38 or at the top of it and miss hitting it.
00:40 In order to hit your three wood off the ground successfully,
00:47 we need to do the opposite.
00:48 So what I'd like to see is from a good setup position
00:51 is that as you come into impact,
00:54 you actually got your weight transferring
00:56 through towards your target.
00:59 And what you'll see
00:59 what some of the best players in the world do
01:01 is a lot of them even actually take a small divot
01:03 with their fairway wood,
01:04 which implies that they're actually hitting
01:06 down through the golf ball,
01:07 much like how you'd hit an iron.
01:09 By having the proper weight transfer,
01:11 you're also gonna present the entire club face
01:14 to the golf ball, hitting it out of the sweet spot.
01:16 Okay, so it might feel
01:18 like you're taking loft off the golf club in this sense,
01:21 but what you're doing is you're actually presenting
01:23 the entire face of the golf ball,
01:24 getting better contact and more distance
01:27 and more consistency.
01:28 The other important element to consider,
01:31 we're all individual golfers with individual speeds,
01:33 golf swings, how we deliver the golf club.
01:35 The important thing to do, see a PGA professional,
01:38 get properly fitted for a three wood.
01:40 Traditionally, a three wood has been 15 degrees in loft,
01:43 but for some golfers, they might need more loft initially.
01:46 So you might find that you actually hit something
01:48 like 16 and a half or an 18 degree fairway wood
01:51 further and better than a 15 degree three wood.
