00:00 Okay, gentlemen, you got your instructions in the dressing room.
00:03 You want to protect yourself at all times, at all times,
00:06 you want to obey my command.
00:07 Touch gloves, back to your corners.
00:09 Go back to your corner.
00:17 After the fight, but Duke doesn't want to give him
00:19 a good birthday present.
00:21 He wants to give him a loss tonight,
00:23 which would be Perez's second in his 14-fight career.
00:28 Bernardo Osuna alongside International Boxing
00:31 Hall of Famer Tim Bradley.
00:33 Duke Reagan said he did therapy for the elbow,
00:36 dealing with a tendonitis.
00:37 He couldn't extend the elbow when he jabbed,
00:39 and he hurt it when blocking punches,
00:41 but tonight he's 100%, and he got to camp,
00:45 not only with the renewed hunger, Tim, but in shape.
00:50 Came in, they said, about no more than 10 pounds overweight,
00:54 been out of the ring for a year.
00:57 That tells you right there the discipline
00:59 and the mindset of Duke.
01:01 You know, still staying under control
01:03 and not letting himself go, even though he was going
01:06 through what he was going through.
01:07 That shows you right there the commitment of the young man
01:09 and where he wants to go in the sport of boxing.
01:12 You know, he went back to his uncle,
01:14 his dad's best friend, Tim Singleton,
01:17 while he was back home in Cincinnati, Ohio,
01:20 and they know him as "Too Still,"
01:23 because when they're training or you stand in the ring,
01:25 you're too still, that means you need to move.
01:27 And his mom will yell, "Too still," as well,
01:30 if she sees Duke not moving in the ring.
01:32 So sometimes you got to bring it back to those basics
01:36 to remember who you are and re-energize,
01:38 and that's what we expect to see from Duke here
01:40 in the round one of a scheduled eight-rounder.
01:43 Nice right uppercut from Duke Reagan.
01:46 - Especially on the inside, I mean,
01:48 being out of the ring for a year
01:50 and being under these bright lights,
01:51 it's difficult.
01:54 It's difficult on you mentally.
01:55 You haven't been hit with eight-ounce gloves in a while.
01:58 Been some time.
01:59 You know, you have a hard time
02:01 getting in your rhythm as well.
02:03 But Duke right now looking pretty sharp,
02:05 tactically, and you know, his jab is one of his best weapons
02:09 and when he does use it and see it to the outside,
02:12 he has a ton of success with it.
02:14 - Kei Karoma has guided the entire professional career
02:18 of Duke Reagan, but also his amateur career
02:21 with Team USA in the Pan Am Games, in the Olympics,
02:24 and so he told me getting Duke back in Vegas,
02:29 on, not only in shape and on weight,
02:32 it was scary, but good scary,
02:34 because now we're gonna see Duke at 100%
02:36 and he's as excited as everybody else is.
02:39 - You know, it's great to say 100%,
02:43 but Duke is not at 100% just yet.
02:46 You know, and I only say that because of the long layoff.
02:50 You know, that layoff, you know, you build a ton of rust.
02:54 You know, you haven't been honing your skills.
02:56 You haven't been in the gym working consistently.
02:58 You haven't been sparring consistently.
03:00 You know, he's been off for some time.
03:02 He's gonna take him some time
03:03 to get back in the groove of things.
03:04 So like this first fight, he gets through this fight,
03:07 trust me, the next couple of fights,
03:10 he's gonna be even sharper and sharper,
03:12 because again, he's sharpening his tools.
03:15 - Yeah, well, Jose Perez's game
03:17 and he landed a nice right hand on Duke Reagan.
03:20 Just to remind him, this is the fight.
03:21 That means I get to punch back too.
03:23 And there's another one.
03:25 (bell rings)
03:27 Hey, look who's here.
03:30 Terrence "Bud" Crawford,
03:32 the undisputed welterweight champion of the world.
03:36 Here to see some of his best friends,
03:38 alongside Steve Nelson.
03:40 He's here to see Kelvin Davis.
03:41 He's here to see Keyshawn and you know,
03:44 some of the other guys,
03:46 and they look up to them as a big brother, Tim.
03:48 - Yeah, man, that's great.
03:50 I mean, that's their role model.
03:52 You know, all those guys, they work together.
03:54 You know, Terrence is helping molding them,
03:57 and they're helping to keep Terrence young as well.
03:59 But trust me, when they in there sparring, it's intense.
04:01 I'm hearing that these sparring sessions that they have,
04:04 it's extremely intense,
04:05 but it's good to see the champ right there.
04:07 The undisputed welterweight champion of the world.
04:10 - That's right, there is Terrence "Bud" Crawford.
04:13 Will the rematch happen against Errol Spence Jr.
04:17 or will we be seeing him in against
04:20 the big dog Canelo Alvarez?
04:22 Let's see what's next.
04:23 - You know, I've been thinking and thinking
04:25 about that fight, man.
04:26 I've been watching film.
04:28 I want him to fight him.
04:29 I really do want him to fight him.
04:31 I really do think that Terrence Crawford can beat him.
04:33 You know, and I'm gonna tell you that right now, people.
04:36 You know, I have my concerns, but skills.
04:40 Skills pay the bills.
04:42 And if Crawford can get in there,
04:44 and if he can avoid a lot of those big shots
04:46 coming from Canelo,
04:48 he has the boxing skills and the tools
04:50 and the temperament to be able to beat him.
04:53 - Yeah, the only concern is if Triple G
04:56 and Bevo couldn't drop and hurt Canelo,
05:00 what can a welterweight moving up
05:02 three weight classes do to Canelo?
05:04 - That's a real concern, though, Tim.
05:06 - That's the only concern, but trust me.
05:08 - It's a real one.
05:09 - It is, but skills.
05:11 You don't let a guy, you don't let a bull,
05:13 look, the bull is what, 2,000, 3,000 pounds?
05:16 Bull, right?
05:17 But there's a man that's in there, right?
05:20 Matador, right?
05:22 And he's eluding, getting away from the bull.
05:24 You know what he does to him, right?
05:27 Takes him out, most of the time.
05:28 - You saw what happened to Amir Khan
05:30 when he tried to beat a Matador against Canelo, little guy?
05:32 - Well, that's Amir Khan,
05:34 but Amir Khan was doing extremely well until when?
05:36 - Yeah. - Exactly.
05:38 Until he got hit.
05:39 - So it was Kayla Plant until when?
05:41 - He got hit. - Okay.
05:43 But doesn't get hit.
05:45 - But gets hit.
05:46 - But will Bud get hit against Canelo?
05:48 I don't think so.
05:49 - All right, let's check this fight out
05:50 because he in trouble right now.
05:52 - Duke Reagan in here against Jose Perez.
05:56 - Ooh, nice counter right from Duke Reagan.
05:57 - Look, Duke right now is buying his time again.
06:00 It's gonna take him about four rounds to warm up.
06:02 You know, I think it's interesting him being off a year
06:04 and coming back and fighting an eight-round fight.
06:07 You know, that says a lot about, again, his mentality,
06:09 but again, your conditioning gets a little lapsed
06:13 when you don't fight,
06:14 you're not constantly staying inside the gym,
06:16 you're not constantly doing world work,
06:18 and you're starting to see a little bit of that right now.
06:20 - But you talk about a fighter needing about four rounds
06:22 to get, you know, their C-legs back,
06:24 and when you have an eight-round fight,
06:26 sometimes you don't have that luxury.
06:28 - No, you don't have that luxury.
06:30 Well, it's a little longer than six rounds,
06:31 I can tell you that, but, I mean,
06:32 right now, what I would say Perez is doing,
06:37 he's doing the right thing.
06:39 You know, you have a man,
06:40 you know this man's been out of the ring for some time.
06:42 He's bringing the fight to him.
06:43 He's trying to push him in a fast-paced fight.
06:46 This is a smart thing to do.
06:48 Let his hands go, press forward,
06:50 and put the heat on, do great.
06:54 - Keep him up, keep him up, keep him up.
07:11 - We see Richard Torres Jr. getting wrapped here
07:16 with about 15 seconds left in the Duke-Reagan-Jose Perez fight.
07:20 But he's a heavyweight prospect.
07:23 Maybe a knockout sensation in the ring,
07:25 but outside the ring, he shows off his softer side
07:27 when he puts on some ballet shoes.
07:40 - You want to look heavenly,
07:41 so make sure your lines and your feet are stretched.
07:44 - Dancing didn't really come about,
07:45 honestly, until Lomachenko.
07:46 Lomachenko said that he did Ukrainian ballet,
07:49 and that's how he got his footwork so great.
07:52 While I'm nowhere near the best dancer,
07:54 I wouldn't call myself a good dancer.
07:56 I would say I try.
07:57 - He never bragged about who he was.
07:59 He never mentioned anything.
08:00 He just wanted to be a student, blend in and learn.
08:03 And up, toss, and drop down.
08:06 Swing around, and hold.
08:09 Beautiful!
08:10 I was extra excited
08:12 because I got to have him a second semester,
08:13 and he was featured as Gaston in our ballet routine.
08:17 - It is terrifying.
08:20 I'm not even gonna lie to you.
08:21 It is worse than going into the weigh-ins at the Olympics,
08:24 because you go in there and you're so out of position.
08:27 You know, you just gotta rock with it.
08:28 I feel like that's really taught me
08:30 some really valuable lessons
08:31 on how to just kind of be okay with yourself.
08:34 - Remember, Vasily Lomachenko did the same thing
08:39 to improve his footwork.
08:40 Now, after watching what he did--
08:42 - That's different.
08:43 - No, it's the same.
08:44 He did Ukrainian dancing.
08:46 - That's different.
08:47 Have you seen Ukrainian dancing?
08:48 That footwork is different.
08:50 That's ballet.
08:51 That's completely different.
08:52 - Come on, man.
08:53 Now you're scaring me.
08:54 - He should just put a tutu on if he gonna do that.
08:57 Come on, man.
08:58 - You're scaring me,
08:58 'cause my 25th anniversary's coming up,
09:00 and my wife wants to recreate the dirty dancing scene
09:03 where you lift.
09:05 I don't think I'm gonna do that.
09:06 - You gonna break your back?
09:07 - I know.
09:08 I better--
09:09 - Let him go.
09:10 Punch out, punch out.
09:10 - I better hit the gym.
09:11 - Let him go.
09:12 - I better get those abs working.
09:14 I know you got a bad back already.
09:16 Man, come on.
09:16 - So Richard Torres coming up.
09:20 It'll be the last fight before we move over to ESPN,
09:24 where you will see us immediately after
09:26 the Auburn-LSU game.
09:29 Warning for Duke Reagan for a low blow.
09:34 - Man, I can't believe my duck's lost, man.
09:37 I'm hurt.
09:38 I cannot believe my duck's lost, bro.
09:41 - My daughter's Stanford team came back on Colorado.
09:43 - Man.
09:46 - My other daughter's SC team is gonna be
09:48 facing an angry duck's team next week.
09:51 - Oh yeah.
09:53 We definitely gonna be angry.
09:55 Hey, that's gonna be easy work.
09:57 We gonna take it out on y'all.
09:58 We gonna score 60 on y'all.
09:59 - Can only score 30 again.
10:02 No, it'll be against SC.
10:03 That's my other daughter.
10:04 - Oh.
10:05 - They already beat Stanford.
10:05 - SC, I thought,
10:06 SC, I thought it was Stanford, so SC, yeah.
10:09 - That's gonna be a good game.
10:10 - No, it isn't.
10:11 - Yes, it is.
10:12 - Blowout.
10:14 - Only problem is SC doesn't have any defense, but.
10:16 Stop Caleb Williams.
10:19 - But we gonna stop him.
10:21 That's the only guy you guys got.
10:23 Nice little feints.
10:25 You know, the feint game,
10:25 I can just tell you this.
10:27 You know, Duke Reagan is definitely picking up
10:31 a lot of real estate using those feints.
10:33 Keith Perez honest.
10:36 - Nice body shot from Perez,
10:37 but then a counter right from Duke.
10:39 - Yeah, but good counters,
10:39 but good defense right there from Duke as well.
10:41 Using his footwork, changing angles,
10:44 getting his head off the line, using his jab.
10:46 - Right, man, man, man, I got you, I got you.
10:52 - And doing the right thing and tying up on the inside.
10:55 Again, we talk about tactics and how important they are
10:58 and knowing what to do and throw the right punches
10:59 at the right time.
11:00 You can tell Duke has a ton of experience.
11:04 Good stab jab right there.
11:05 He's looking for something to land over the top.
11:08 Look for the right hand.
11:09 And again, Perez is being what Perez does.
11:12 He's coming forward, being aggressive.
11:14 - Slip counter from Duke Reagan.
11:17 Nice body shot from Perez.
11:19 - Watch your head, watch your head.
11:22 - Pressure being put on by Perez
11:28 and then Reagan with the accuracy.
11:31 - Yes.
11:32 - Nice body work.
11:34 Good catch and shoot in there.
11:36 Then getting out and trying to all over.
11:39 - Keep that jab.
11:58 I'll bring you in combination behind that stick.
12:00 Don't abandon your stinks, okay?
12:02 Come on, lift yourself.
12:04 - Three.
12:05 Good, now three.
12:07 - Okay, Karoma and Tim Singleton in the corner.
12:11 Body work from Duke Reagan.
12:13 - Oh yeah, he's trying to slow down Perez.
12:17 Going down to the body by shooting high
12:19 and then going down low.
12:20 Keep changing levels on his opponent, which is good.
12:22 Nice little jab up top, sneaking the right hand behind
12:25 and then the tactics afterwards.
12:26 Slide inside, making sure that he doesn't get caught
12:30 in between that ranges, in that mid range.
12:32 We call it no man's land.
12:34 - Yeah.
12:34 Yeah, Duke is hoping to slow down Perez
12:43 with that body work.
12:44 (bell rings)
12:46 - Fight scheduled for eight rounds here
12:49 inside the Pork Bend Epicenter in Rosenburg, Texas,
12:54 just outside of Houston.
12:56 Digging downstairs is Duke Reagan,
12:59 once again gets the warning from James Green
13:01 - History tells us Tim, he likes to deduct points.
13:04 We've seen that earlier on.
13:05 - Yeah, he's serious.
13:08 - Let him go, let him go.
13:09 Punch out, let him go.
13:10 Break!
13:11 - But he also lets you work from the inside
13:14 and that's what I like about him.
13:16 Ooh, nice shot right there by Duke.
13:23 Good comeback combination right there from Perez as well.
13:28 Good uppercut in the inside.
13:30 All right, it's turning into a brawl.
13:32 That's what Perez wants out of this fight.
13:35 - That's exactly what Perez wants.
13:37 - Will Duke oblige him or will he continue
13:39 to try to outbox him?
13:41 Nice combination there from Duke
13:42 with the lead right and follow up left.
13:44 - See, when Duke uses his jab,
13:45 uses his fangs to stay outside,
13:47 he slows down the pace of Perez.
13:50 But the minute he get off his jab,
13:52 Perez just comes through that front door
13:53 and he's just looking to throw everything he can at him.
13:57 - Pshh.
13:58 - There's that stick. - Good jab.
14:03 - Both of them. - Both of them, yeah.
14:05 Perez right there got in the inside,
14:11 just throwing a body shot.
14:13 Came outside wide with a right hand body shot
14:15 to step himself inside.
14:17 - There's that stick from Duke Reagan once again.
14:21 He's actually got a longer reach, 68 1/2 inches
14:24 compared to 67 for Jose Perez.
14:27 Nice right hand from Perez.
14:34 - Yeah, we always talk about longer reach,
14:36 but nobody really understands what that means
14:38 and how do you get the reach.
14:40 - Only means if you use it.
14:42 - Look, you can have the longer reach.
14:45 It just means that you're able to set up shot
14:47 a little further away from the opponent
14:49 to give her a lay in the offense,
14:50 but you gotta know how to do it
14:51 and how to use your reach.
14:53 That's all it means.
14:54 But how you measure the reach,
14:57 you go from one middle finger
14:59 all the way across the back to the other one.
15:02 That's how you're able to measure your reach.
15:04 It's that simple.
15:07 - Yeah, historically-- - So they say--
15:12 - Your reach is supposed to equal your height,
15:14 but some people have longer arms,
15:17 some people have shorter arms.
15:18 - I know. - Jump back, jump back.
15:20 - Some people got longer feet and big heads.
15:24 - I was gonna ask you,
15:24 like when they were measuring yours,
15:26 like did your head get in the way of the tape measure?
15:29 - No, 'cause they go around the back area, bro.
15:33 - Back area. - What about your neck?
15:34 - My neck is about a 16 and a half.
15:36 - Nice short right hand.
15:41 Good right hand.
15:43 - Weight of action here. - Rock that.
15:45 - We are coming towards tonight's main event on ESPN.
15:48 (upbeat music)
15:52 - Janabek, Kazakh style, Alim Hanala!
15:55 - A lightning strike.
16:00 - Janabek's looking for a knockout.
16:02 - This guy is the Terminator.
16:03 - The power of Janabek is real.
16:07 - Oh, and the uppercut floors him, and it's over!
16:11 - There is Janabek, Kazakh style, Alim Hanala.
16:20 He's been calling out all the champions
16:22 in the middleweight division.
16:24 Finally, he found a taker, Vincenzo Gualtieri,
16:28 who is facing his second southpaw,
16:29 gonna make the first defense of his IBF title
16:32 in this unification bout against Janabek,
16:35 a man who was trained by Buddy McGirt
16:38 for his 12 fights in the US.
16:40 In this fight, he's got Brian Valoria working his corner.
16:43 The Hawaiian Punch, you can see him right behind Janabek,
16:47 alongside Egus Clemus, his manager.
16:51 He's all business to him, and he understands
16:53 that tonight he has an opportunity
16:55 to take over the division.
16:56 - Yeah, he has an opportunity to be the leader
17:00 of the division.
17:00 He'll hold down two straps, you know,
17:02 he'll be a shot caller.
17:04 He'll be the one that everybody's gonna be wanting to chase.
17:07 Because of that.
17:07 - What version of Janabek will we see?
17:12 Will it be the boogeyman, Kazakh style,
17:15 or will it be the man who struggled
17:17 against Denzel Bentley, a boxer, a mover,
17:22 who I'm sure Vincenzo Gualtieri will try to emulate
17:26 in tonight's main event.
17:28 You won't wanna miss that immediately after
17:30 the Auburn-LSU game on ESPN.
17:33 Inside the ring, we have Duke Reagan in the fifth round
17:38 of his scheduled eight rounder against Jose Perez.
17:41 He's been gone for almost a year.
17:45 October 29th of 2022 was the last time we saw Duke Reagan,
17:48 and right about now is when he should be warmed up
17:51 and loose.
17:52 Get the cobwebs off, the ring rust off.
17:56 But Perez is not an easy mark,
18:01 as he tries to switch southpaw momentarily.
18:03 - Perez now using lateral movement to get inside,
18:08 to come up behind his jab,
18:09 and then following up with combinations,
18:11 but at first he was just coming straight forward.
18:14 But now he changed up things.
18:15 Now he's bringing Duke Reagan to him,
18:20 trying to make him pay for his mistakes.
18:22 - Nice right to the body, a strafing right.
18:26 - Duke can't get anything going consistently
18:32 right now for himself.
18:34 - And you don't wanna allow a fighter like Jose Perez
18:39 to start to get more confidence.
18:42 - You never want a fighter of Perez's repertoire,
18:47 I would say, and experience to gain--
18:53 - Oh, left hook!
18:54 Drops Duke Reagan!
18:55 - Hello.
19:07 - This is the first time that Duke Reagan's been dropped,
19:11 and he's got a slight cut, an abrasion
19:14 on the left cheekbone.
19:16 And here comes Jose Perez in the fifth round,
19:20 trying to upset the Olympic silver medalist
19:24 for the United States, right here in Rosenburg, Texas.
19:27 Hey Tim, you know how today when Washington
19:32 was beating on the Ducks, they put "Upset Alert"?
19:35 (laughing)
19:37 - Right on the phone. - Why you gotta go there, man?
19:40 Come on now. - They're taking their time.
19:41 Kei Kuroma taking his time,
19:43 and washing off the mouthpiece of Duke Reagan.
19:47 Yeah, he didn't allow him to spit it out
19:53 and take the time then,
19:55 but the experience of Duke Reagan showing here,
20:00 as the referee handled everything right.
20:02 Nice left hook there from Perez once again.
20:05 Will we see a war here when we come back with round six?
20:11 Let's listen in to Duke Reagan,
20:16 first time he's ever been dropped.
20:17 These are the instructions in the corner.
20:19 (upbeat music)
20:22 All right, let's take a look, Tim,
20:45 how that left hook dropped Duke Reagan.
20:49 Oh, mid-range right here, yep.
20:52 Just shooting the jab right there.
20:54 Had his, he was actually holding the phone.
20:56 Split the guard, wow, what a well-placed shot
21:01 right there from Perez.
21:03 Look at this lead, wow.
21:06 Lead left hook, although Duke was holding the phone,
21:11 holding the phone, look at this, boom,
21:14 slip right past the glove, right on the chin.
21:17 Duke never saw that punch coming.
21:21 - You talk about perfectly placed shots.
21:24 That was picture perfect
21:25 because Duke did everything right.
21:27 - Everything.
21:29 - Said Perez did it better.
21:30 - Trainer said, "Don't pull straight back."
21:32 He didn't pull straight back.
21:34 - He was just there.
21:35 - He was shooting the jab, he was shooting the jab,
21:38 and he got caught right on the money.
21:40 - Round six of a scheduled eight-round fight.
21:44 Round five saw Duke Reagan on the canvas
21:47 for the first time of his career.
21:48 Not the first time, he spits out the mouthpiece
21:51 to gain some time.
21:52 He did that last fight when he was hurt,
21:54 but here he is, the heart of Duke Reagan
21:57 showing in round six.
21:58 - One of the things that's gonna hurt Duke
22:03 moving forward in his career is that he has no pop.
22:06 He has no power.
22:07 Got one knockout in eight fights.
22:09 - Yeah, and his pro debut has been
22:10 seven straight decision wins.
22:12 - So when you get knocked down like that in scorecards,
22:16 you need somewhat of a knockdown or a knockout
22:18 to win a fight.
22:19 He can always find himself in this type of situation
22:23 where the fight is starting to heat up, it's really close,
22:25 and then a knockdown like that,
22:27 if you can't deliver a knockdown, you can lose the fight.
22:30 - Eight-round fight, two points make a huge difference.
22:36 You said it, hard to make up
22:38 when you are not a power puncher yourself.
22:40 So Duke's gonna have to dig deep.
22:42 He's got three rounds here.
22:46 - Against Jose "El Mudo" Perez.
22:49 You saw the Canelo feint there?
22:51 I saw the right up and try to--
22:52 - Oh yeah, I see it.
22:55 The tall, like, lengthy, wiry guys,
22:57 they're able to tort their bodies
23:00 and throw punches at odd angles.
23:01 That's what you're saying right there.
23:03 I mean, Perez is doing a little bit of everything.
23:05 He's coming forward, being aggressive, moving on angles,
23:08 throwing shots at odd angles,
23:10 dipping his head, coming up with punches,
23:12 throwing uppercuts from far away.
23:15 - Almost remind me a little bit of another
23:18 lead left hook right there, we went for it.
23:20 - Well, if it worked once, why can't it work again?
23:22 He just missed it.
23:23 Nice body work from Duke's Reagan.
23:26 - Like the body type, he's a little bit firmer
23:28 than I would say Navarrete, but I'm just saying,
23:30 just trying to explain just the awkwardness
23:34 of fighting a tall, lengthy fighter like Perez.
23:36 - There's a left hook from Duke,
23:39 but you mentioned the fact that he doesn't have
23:42 that equalizing power.
23:44 - No, and then most guys that are strong
23:47 and they can take a punch,
23:49 they don't get spooked by the speed or the skills.
23:51 They're gonna walk down Duke.
23:53 Duke's always gonna have a hard time.
23:54 He's always gonna be in these type of fights
23:57 because he doesn't punch.
23:59 - Knock his head.
24:02 Break the man's neck.
24:03 - It's down for me, it's down for Duke.
24:05 - And listen, it's not a knock on him.
24:08 It's not, I'm just saying, it's not a knock on him.
24:10 I'm just saying it's the reality.
24:14 - And it was very effective going to the body
24:17 with a right here in this round.
24:19 Nice counter and a solid right hand from Duke
24:22 at the bell. - And he buzzed him.
24:23 - And he buzzed him. - Yes, he did.
24:24 - Buzzed him with that right hand.
24:26 That was a shot he didn't see.
24:28 (crowd chattering)
24:31 (crowd chattering)
24:34 - Oh!
24:46 - A punch that's after the bell.
24:48 - Referee was right there.
24:52 - Yeah, I mean, he was right there.
24:53 Duke was in the process, turned on the angle,
24:55 shot the right hand.
24:58 - Slight second pass to Bell, but referee was right there.
25:03 And you know how he's a stickler.
25:06 He would've said something if they would've thought.
25:09 (bell rings)
25:11 - Round seven of a scheduled eight round fight.
25:19 Tonight we have a 12 round middleweight unification bout
25:23 in our main event on ESPN.
25:25 It'll be Vincenzo "Walti" Eddy,
25:28 the newly minted IBF world champion.
25:31 Stopped or dropped Eskimo Falcao twice on his way
25:35 to a unanimous decision victory.
25:38 And he will put that belt on the line
25:41 against Zanabek Alimhanala,
25:45 a duel of unbeaten fighters tonight in Rosenburg, Texas.
25:49 That will be our main event on ESPN
25:52 immediately following Auburn LSU college football game.
25:57 We kick off that card with Keyshawn Davis
26:01 against Nahir Albright, who is upset minded
26:04 and capable of pulling off an upset.
26:07 If Keyshawn is not at his best tonight.
26:09 - Man, Walti, every trainer got a Chef Gourdi hat on.
26:12 (laughs)
26:14 Are you kidding me?
26:15 Man, if my trainer walk out the house with that thing
26:17 or the hotel with that thing,
26:18 I'd say, "Man, you better take that off, man."
26:21 That must be a Germany thing, man.
26:24 German thing, I don't know what that is.
26:26 - Frankie Aldama, he's Cuban, but he now lives in Germany
26:30 and we will find out, Tim, if we can get you
26:32 one of those hats for you to take home.
26:34 - I don't want one of those hats.
26:35 - Yes, you do. - Absolutely not.
26:36 Ooh, nice right hand from Duke Reagan.
26:38 Follows it up with a left hook.
26:40 - And the way he set that up, beautiful.
26:42 Nice one-two, but then he got his head up off the line
26:45 when he threw that right hand.
26:47 Was able to avoid whatever was coming back.
26:50 - And Duke biting down on the mouthpiece here
26:54 in this seventh round.
26:57 Knowing he can't just let Perez come through
27:00 and throw his punches without getting something back.
27:04 - So where Duke lacks the power,
27:07 he makes up with it with toughness.
27:09 Duke is tough, he's gritty, he's a dog.
27:13 You know, and you see him bouncing back
27:15 in this fight right now, coming back to win these rounds.
27:19 - Cincinnati fighters usually are tough.
27:22 And he's sparred Adrian Broner, Tank Davis,
27:25 Jermell Herring, Ross Shee-Warren, all champions.
27:29 So they teach you that in Ohio, can't be soft.
27:34 - No.
27:35 - Oh, now there's a cut on the right eyelid of Jose Perez.
27:40 We'll see how this changes the fight.
27:46 Will Perez fight with a sense of urgency?
27:49 Will he be distracted by the blood?
27:51 (crowd shouting)
27:54 Will it inspire Duke Reagan to target the blood?
28:00 - Duke's doing a good job of cutting off those exits.
28:10 And doing a great job of keeping his hands at home,
28:13 protecting himself, catching and shooting.
28:20 - Nice right hand from Duke Reagan.
28:22 (bell dings)
28:27 Take a look at that cut.
28:33 Mike Fazel, clean work there.
28:37 Definitely Timma headbutt.
28:43 - Yeah, but I mean, the referee did not say.
28:48 Head clash right there.
28:49 (crowd shouting)
28:52 The referee hasn't decided if the cut was caused by a punch
29:08 or a head, he hasn't said anything.
29:09 I mean, I haven't seen anything yet.
29:11 Did he say anything on what it was?
29:13 (whistle blows)
29:19 - I can understand it doesn't matter now.
29:20 I mean, it's the back end of the fight.
29:22 But I'm just saying, I still wanna know.
29:24 - Well, it does matter if they stop it because it's TKO.
29:26 That's exactly what happened with Guido Villanueva
29:30 in his fight against Johnny Rice.
29:32 But Jose Perez immediately told the referee,
29:36 James Green, it was a headbutt.
29:37 But you're right, there was no indication from the referee
29:41 whether it was a headbutt or a punch.
29:44 Final round, Duke Reagan, just to recap,
29:48 was dropped for the first time in his career
29:51 in the fifth round.
29:52 He's been in control for the most part.
29:55 That's the same punch that dropped him, Tim.
30:04 Perez was trying to set it up again.
30:05 - He's trying to say it's a no-look,
30:07 we call it the no-look left hook.
30:08 That's what I just called it, no hook.
30:10 No, it's a lead left hook.
30:11 And what he does is he take his head onto his back foot
30:14 and throws the left hook at the same time.
30:16 (crowd shouting)
30:19 - There it is again.
30:26 - I got you, I got you, I got you.
30:28 Let me have it, let me have it, I got you.
30:32 (crowd shouting)
30:34 Don't go, let him go, let him go, let him go.
30:38 I got you.
30:39 - See, what you're saying with Perez is,
30:40 and the reason why he's out of his rhythm is,
30:42 is because the knockdown.
30:44 So the knockdown can excite you.
30:48 Then you just get kind of prefixated on the knockdown
30:51 and you try to do the same thing you did last time.
30:53 So you're forcing shots.
30:56 You know, you're trying to land something hard
30:57 and it gets you completely out of your game.
30:59 - Stop doing what worked for him.
31:01 - Exactly.
31:02 And Duke right now, what he's doing is he's staying poised
31:06 and now his technique is coming through.
31:09 Perez is starting to slow down a bit
31:11 and Duke is holding his ground.
31:14 - Good defense right there, again, catching shoot.
31:17 - Ooh, nice counter right from Duke Reagan.
31:19 - But his technique is carrying him through.
31:23 His form is tearing him through.
31:25 - And just because you get dropped
31:30 doesn't mean you lose the fight.
31:32 - No.
31:33 - I mean, it's eight rounds, each one judged individually.
31:36 - Well, it's an automatic eight, 10 round.
31:39 - Yeah, that one is because he got dropped,
31:41 but the other seven are independently scored of that round.
31:45 - Absolutely.
31:46 But it does give the other fighter basically two rounds.
31:51 - Absolutely.
31:52 But to be fair, he's looked great for the most part
31:58 of this fight.
31:59 - It's that knockdown with that knockdown woke him up.
32:03 - It really did.
32:04 I think it settled him down, actually.
32:06 Like, okay, what do I have to do?
32:08 Well, let me recover first, keep it simple, do what works.
32:12 - Right.
32:13 - You know, that's a--
32:15 - I'm impressed, man, I'm impressed with this catch.
32:17 - Rabbit punch could have been a point deduction.
32:23 We've seen James Green do it earlier on in the night.
32:27 I think he did the right thing by not taking the point,
32:29 but the final bell will mean that for the eighth time
32:34 in nine career fights, Duke Reagan hears the final bell
32:38 in a professional fight.
32:39 So let's take a look at this fight,
32:41 which started off great for Duke Reagan,
32:43 and then he had moments that he had to overcome.
32:46 - Yeah, Duke was in control,
32:47 going down to the body, starting off, you know,
32:49 using his jab.
32:50 He's been out of the year, people.
32:51 He's been out of the ring for a year,
32:53 dealing with, you know, various injuries, also mental.
32:57 You know, he lost his father,
32:58 but that was just a good comeback fight for him.
33:01 It definitely was, but this, in the fifth round right here,
33:03 this left hook, lead left hook off the jab,
33:07 just finding the seam in between those gloves.
33:10 That was an unbelievable punch right there from Perez.
33:13 Textbook, but you know, towards the end,
33:16 Perez, he was landing here, he was landing there,
33:18 but they were getting a lot tangled up.
33:20 Duke was just able to stay under control,
33:22 use his defense, you know, catch, shoot, catch shots,
33:26 and punch right back against Perez.
33:28 And I thought he closed the show very well,
33:31 although he was knocked down.
33:33 - Duke Reagan looks like he's on his way
33:35 for his ninth victory,
33:37 and we'll get our first look right here on ESPN
33:41 of local Houston fighter, Giovanni Marquez.
33:45 Yes, the son of El Diamante, Raul Marquez,
33:48 who is also his trainer, his father,
33:51 the former world champion that leads us
33:53 to Guido Villanueva's return,
33:55 and also another heavyweight star in the making,
33:58 Richard Torres Jr.
34:00 That'll be the end of our ESPN Plus show.
34:03 Then we'll move over to ESPN after Auburn LSU
34:06 for Nahir Albright challenging Keyshawn Davis,
34:11 coming in here with upset on his mind.
34:15 That's gonna be our ESPN show leading up
34:17 to our world title unifying match at middleweight
34:22 between Shanebek Alemhanala and Vincenzo Guanciale.
34:26 Let's send it up to our El Capo, Mark Chinook.
34:31 - Ladies and gentlemen, after eight rounds
34:34 here inside the Fort Bend Epicenter,
34:36 we go to the judges' scorecards for the official decision.
34:39 Ellis Johnson has it 76-75 in favor of Duke Reagan.
34:47 Joe Rodriguez has it 76-75 in favor of Jose Perez.
34:54 And David Sutherland has it 76-75.
35:00 For your winner by split decision,
35:03 Duke Reagan!
35:07 - 76-75, the fans here don't like it,
35:13 but Tim, what did you think of the decision?
35:16 I thought it was pretty fair.
35:17 - Toss up, would have been the toss up.
35:19 You know, I didn't score this fight.
35:21 I thought Duke controlled the beginning portion
35:24 of the fight, big knockdown happens.
35:26 I thought that Perez was controlling the action,
35:28 and then I thought that Duke finished strong.
