00:00 Make way for the master of magnetism. Here's a look at the new Hasbro Marvel Legends X-Men 97 Magneto
00:26 Bring the excitement and wonder of the Marvel Universe to your collection with the Hasbro Marvel Legends Magneto and other X-Men action figures.
00:33 This collectible six-inch scale action figures detailed to look like Magneto from the Marvel Studios X-Men 97.
00:40 Magneto Marvel Legends figure is fully articulated with premium design and posable head, arms, and legs.
00:45 This Marvel action figure comes with two accessories.
00:47 Hasbro Marvel Action figures six-inch scale make them great for posing and displaying in fans collections.
00:53 Just before we look at this rather polarizing person, seriously, some people either like him or hate him.
00:58 First what we're gonna do is I'm gonna grab the tape measure and show you guys how tall the brand new X-Men
01:03 97 series Magneto stands and of course we'll bring in the other figures
01:06 we've already had a look at that being Gambit and Wolverine.
01:09 In this case Magneto stands about six and a quarter inches in height, give or take, or the figure is gonna be about
01:15 15 and a half centimeters tall.
01:17 When last we looked at the 97 X-Men series,
01:20 we did already look at Gambit and we also already looked at Wolverine. And one thing is quite apparent,
01:26 at least for me, when I'm looking at the three figures now stacked together, is I think that Magneto is way too small.
01:32 First of all, I don't think he's this short when you compare him with Wolverine, for example.
01:36 I feel he should be a lot taller. But if you look at the measuring stick being say Gambit,
01:40 I feel like Magneto should probably go at least to the same height, if not, maybe just a little less than say Gambit.
01:46 He shouldn't be the size that he is. In fact, it kind of makes him look less intimidating by the size that they actually sculpted the figure in.
01:53 Another way that Magneto comes up a little bit short is in accessories.
01:57 The figure only comes in a clue with a swapped out pair of fist hands. He doesn't come with any
02:02 magnetic effects, nothing that clips onto the end of his hands.
02:06 I feel like they kind of went a little bit more generous with both Wolverine and Gambit.
02:10 Unfortunately, Magneto comes up again a little short on accessories. With only just fisted hands to work with,
02:16 I'd much rather really just have the figure displayed with the gestured hands that he has right now.
02:20 I mean, I don't even know if I'm gonna have these for a planned purpose at all.
02:24 I might just end up putting them back in a ziplock bag. But let's say for example,
02:27 let's say you're one that doesn't necessarily like these kind of hands for Magneto, never liked those kind of hands for Magneto.
02:32 Well, if you wanted to, if you wanted to, you just simply remove the hands from the provided pegs and then just pop the new
02:38 fist hand in place. So I guess if he did want to curse Charles Xavier, curse Charles Xavier,
02:44 you can also go that route instead. I guess one thing,
02:47 it's not so terrible the fact if you wanted to have like one hand like this and then the other hand sort of like this.
02:52 Yeah, I guess worse things could have really happened for Magneto other than just the size of the figure itself.
02:57 What I'll do for right now at least is I'll keep the hand in place
03:00 and we'll stick with his other hand then on the other side and we'll get it closer like a Magneto.
03:03 I'll tell you right away, not only is the size the one thing that's a little disappointing for the figure,
03:07 but the other thing for me is at least I don't love the head sculpt. I really don't like it at all.
03:11 There's things I like about it in some regards. Maybe it's just the eyes that take this away from me.
03:16 At one point actually, first of all, let's just backtrack a little bit. When I first got the figure out of the packaging,
03:21 he sort of looked more like this and I feel it draws even more attention to the fact that his face is really square.
03:27 You can like look at it by just peeling away the flaps for his helmet.
03:30 I feel like his head sculpt first of all is way too big down below.
03:33 I did though heat this a little bit to kind of bring these a little bit closer together to make a little bit more
03:39 intimidation to what I feel to be kind of a really comical looking head sculpt. I don't like the mouth.
03:44 I don't like the nose. Maybe the nose isn't so bad. The mouth is I guess, I don't know,
03:48 it's a combination of something.
03:50 Maybe it's just the thing about the eyes being a little off for me or maybe it's just a combination of the fact that the
03:54 eyes and the mouth don't look right together, but he has a weird face to him.
03:58 And now I have seen pictures of course where some people have already started to customize their 97 X-Men figures.
04:04 Some have already taken a Magneto from another head sculpt for example and replaced it with this one.
04:08 Because I think the body is okay. I don't really have any issues necessarily with Magneto's body.
04:12 It's really I feel the head that Unders delivers for this figure. From the side it looks okay,
04:17 but look, I mean who's gonna really display the figure from the side? Even from the side,
04:21 he has almost more like a man-child face.
04:24 They also have darkened the areas around his eyes,
04:27 but then they've made his eyebrows really bright. If he has really cast shadows across the front where his eyes would normally be,
04:34 you wouldn't then, you wouldn't also darken the eyebrows. You wouldn't really want to leave the eyebrows
04:39 completely untouched by darkness. I would much rather had they just darken the areas completely around his eyes.
04:45 But even then I don't feel like it would have saved the face. Something is definitely off on Magneto's head sculpt I feel.
04:50 One thing I do think I like though is actually the helmet. The helmet is more of a shinier plastic
04:56 compared it really against the rest of the matte plastic that they use for the rest of his body.
04:59 I like the way that they've used a metallic purple painted around.
05:02 They trim, you know, of course the areas around his eyes, down the front flaps of where his mouthpiece would be.
05:07 I have I think one little random hair. Let me just remove that out of the way.
05:10 So like I like the way they've actually sculpted this in more shinier plastic.
05:14 It's unfortunate though that I have to still contend with what I feel to be such an inferior looking Magneto's face.
05:20 As for the rest of the figure's body though, just to look at it other than being just a little short on stature,
05:26 I think like the figure's body is okay.
05:28 It's making use of of course more of a matte red finish and like the plastic that they use works pretty good.
05:33 It isn't even quite very a dark red either. It's kind of more like a slightly more orangish red.
05:38 The purple that they've used is kind of not quite the metallic purple that they would have used say for his helmet,
05:43 but it still has a little bit of a sheen to it as well.
05:46 It could be said for the fact his lower trunks as well and are also in that purple color.
05:50 He's also got the purple down below here also in his boots.
05:52 I think like the way they've sculpted the figure looks pretty good,
05:56 and I also really like the way they sculpted the cape. It's a big large cape,
05:59 and it also brings itself away from the body. Like it's not close to his body in quarters.
06:03 There's enough space allotted to the back.
06:05 I mean obviously just because in order to accommodate that it makes it for a little more of a floppier cape,
06:10 but it's actually attached. It's attached right around to the front here,
06:13 and I'm guessing they probably would have glued it to the front of his torso, but there's really kind of in a way,
06:18 I mean there's a peg on the back here that plugs for all intents and purposes on the back of his torso,
06:22 but I feel like that's not nearly enough to kind of keep everything in place.
06:25 Part of me is almost even tempted to glue the peg into the hole,
06:28 because it's not really necessarily going to interfere with the figure.
06:31 Even if down the road I decide I want to change out Magneto's head for example,
06:34 which I'm really really really tempted to do so,
06:36 I don't think it's necessarily gonna make any difference whether I've actually glued the cape in place or not.
06:40 I might, you know what, I might just end up doing that.
06:42 I'm not I'm not really sure, but like the sculpting of the body for again, small as it may be,
06:46 it's a good look Magneto from basically like this part down.
06:50 One thing I also really had a problem with with this particular figure and me have also had similar issues too,
06:54 is the way that they've actually taught attach the pegs.
06:57 More importantly the the peg joint that's actually in the ankle.
07:00 Never really had the issue with Gambit. I never had the issue with Wolverine,
07:04 so I never really even brought it up in their reviews,
07:06 but I'll bring it up here. Where they actually attach the peg is not straight down.
07:10 Obviously in order for it to hinge the way that it does, they peg it right this way on an angle.
07:15 They plug it essentially so it looks like he's sliding on his boot on his feet, kind of like slippers.
07:21 The unfortunate thing about it though is getting this guy out of the plastic the first time, I couldn't move the ankle.
07:26 I couldn't. Anytime I tried to move it, basically was doing this and I thought there was a potential for me to break the peg.
07:32 I end up taking a few passes with the hair dryer.
07:34 I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna bore you guys with the sound effect for the hair dryer.
07:37 But I made a few passes with the hair dryer and that was just enough to soften up the peg.
07:40 It still seems like it's very stubborn when it comes to moving, but like I don't know out of all the figures
07:46 I've looked at so far, Magneto is really the only one I've really had issues with when it comes to his
07:50 his ankle pegs. Other than that though, like the figure will still have all the same retained articulation as other perhaps earlier looked at Magneto's.
07:57 We did look at one, I guess a couple years ago also as well.
08:00 And it's also gonna have the very same kind of articulation as Wolverine, the one we just recently looked at.
08:05 So like Magneto's head is gonna be on ball pegs.
08:08 So it rotates all the way around. It hinges up and down and of course also back and forth as well.
08:13 But also to help aid in that ball joint, you can probably see for yourself as well.
08:17 There's a little hinge joint at the top of the neck that also allows the head for Magneto to look down.
08:22 If you wanted to maybe, if he's a little more disappointed with the way they've sculpted his head sculpting,
08:26 he's kind of doing a walk of shame.
08:27 You can have the head angled down that way or you can have the head also looking up as well that far.
08:32 The shoulders come out and you'll be happy to know as well the cape doesn't get in the way of things at all.
08:37 So you can easily bring the arms beyond the point of 90 degrees.
08:39 You bring the arms forward.
08:41 Bringing them back is about the only time you're really gonna run into problems.
08:44 Just because again like the cape's gonna get in the way of things. The figure does have a swivel in his bicep.
08:48 Let's bring the arms down. The figure has a swivel in his bicep.
08:51 The figure does have, unlike Gambit, a double hinge on his elbow.
08:54 The double hinges aren't always the easiest thing to do just because again, he's got a really large bicep.
08:59 He's got an equally large tricep as well. The figure also has a swivel in his hands.
09:04 You can hinge those back and forth like always usually the case of Marvel Legends.
09:08 You have an upper torso crunch so you can bring him forward this way.
09:10 You can also arch him back this way. That looks like he just has now broken his spine.
09:14 And you can also as well swivel at his waist.
09:17 The thing about the swiveling though is while I would initially have thought that they would have swiveled just above the belt,
09:22 what they've actually done is they've attached the belt to the top of his torso.
09:26 So when you are swiveling it, you are in fact swiveling the belt the top of his trunks as well.
09:30 Now swiveling it too far, you can kind of see there's a little bit of a gap where the red is exposed underneath.
09:35 But you probably not gonna be rotating it to that extreme.
09:38 The legs are on ball joints. It allows quite a good range to swivel.
09:42 And of course to give Magneto a split, so you can do that as well.
09:45 You can take the legs and move them forward. You can move them back.
09:47 He has three quarters of the way up the thigh. Once again, a swivel cut so you can rotate the leg all the way around.
09:51 Double hinge on the knee.
09:52 No articulation here in the boot because for obvious reasons it's sculpted to the rest of the calf.
09:57 But again, like moving the ankle back and forth was the hardest so far on Magneto.
10:01 He really had a tough time, a real tough time, hinging that ankle back and forth.
10:06 And with the ankle being as tight as it is, every time you're trying to do it this way,
10:09 you just know you're pushing your luck and eventually that peg is gonna snap.
10:13 Again, like bringing the ankle forward, it leaves this very awkward back section to it.
10:17 Kind of again, like looks like he's walking around in slippers.
10:20 But again, like the ankle moves back and forth this way and you can rock it back and forth this way.
10:24 You know, while we were doing so well, I feel we were doing so well when it came to these X-Men 97 figures.
10:30 Having already looked at what I feel to be one of the best being Gambit.
10:34 And an equally good figure with that being Wolverine.
10:37 It's unfortunately a bit heartbreaking the fact that we kind of get an an underwhelming disappointing Magneto.
10:42 Magneto really literally came up short.
10:45 Not only in the way that he's sized, especially when you compare him with Gambit.
10:48 Gambit should not cast a shadow on Magneto.
10:51 As little of a shadow he actually has cast from his helmet.
10:54 And I feel also as well like the head sculpt really under delivers.
10:58 Not that I have a big experience when it comes to Magneto figures.
11:01 Not that I have a huge collection of X-Men Magneto figures.
11:04 But I would say like it's definitely one of the worst I've looked at.
11:07 There's something just off about it and I can't quite place my finger on what exactly it is.
11:11 Could it be just the fact that they've given him just a very neutral expression face?
11:15 Could it be also the fact that his eyebrows for one reason or another had to be the thing that stands out?
11:20 When you're casting a shadow across someone's eyes, let not be the eyebrows.
11:25 Still the thing that stands out like a sore thumb.
11:28 Something again about Magneto just doesn't add up to me.
11:31 And I feel like so far of the at least of the three figures of the six figure that we're about to have a look at.
11:36 I feel like Magneto by far for me is the most disappointing.
11:40 Now I could very well be living in the past.
11:42 But honestly one of my favorite Magnetos, if not my favorite Magneto that we've gotten as a plastic figure.
11:47 It's not one that we got from Hasbro.
11:49 No, it's actually the one that we got from Diamond Select.
11:51 The Marvel Select Magneto.
11:52 I still think Trump's the one that we got here from Hasbro.
11:56 It's bigger in size obviously.
11:57 I didn't want to bring it in either because it would cast even more an obvious shadow of the smaller stature of Magneto that we got here from Hasbro.
12:04 But I also think it's a better looking head sculpt on the one that we got from Diamond.
12:07 It also looks a little bit more like the X-Men arcade.
12:09 And maybe that's very well why I'm more biased towards the Diamond Select release.
12:13 But again it draws even more attention to the fact that this just feels for me like an inferior Magneto.
12:18 If we were just not to look at the size.
12:20 And sizing is really one thing that's a big deal breaker for this figure.
12:23 Especially when we eventually bring in the Bishop.
12:25 When we look at the Bishop review and I bring Magneto back.
12:28 You'll even see how much even smaller he seems when you compare him with Bishop.
12:32 But also the head sculpt.
12:33 The head sculpt is the thing that I feel really ruins this figure.
12:36 Now I have seen several collectors of Marvel Legends not then swapped out this head sculpt with a head that we got from another Magneto.
12:42 To get a better looking Magneto.
12:44 And you really shouldn't have to always do that when it comes to figures.
12:47 Now if you wanted, say for example, like the one that was on the other Magneto.
12:51 And say okay you know what I like that one a little bit more.
12:53 Swap it out by all means.
12:54 But if you're swapping it out just because you don't like the one that's on this body.
12:58 Then that says right away that I think Hasbro delivered an inferior head sculpt for the master of Magnetism.
13:05 There's something just really off about the face.
13:07 Whether it be the nose.
13:08 Whether it be the mouth.
13:08 Whether it be a combination of the three.
13:10 It doesn't also help the fact that his eyebrows stand out as much as they do.
13:14 When his helmet for all intents and purposes should be casting a shadow across his eyes.
13:18 Why is his eyebrows still something that stands out as much as it is?
13:22 Either way though, unfortunately we kind of...
13:25 If you were to look at this as a line graph.
13:27 We've kind of been steadily going higher and higher.
13:29 With both first Magneto... first Wolverine looking good.
13:32 And then being Gambit being the better of the Wolverine.
13:34 The earlier looked at Wolverine.
13:35 You would think that we would continue to steadily make our way up the hill.
13:39 Until eventually we took a plunder when it came to looking at Magneto.
13:42 I hope that the line graph at least corrects itself.
13:45 When we look at the remaining Rogues, Storm and Bishop.
13:48 All of those reviews will be coming of course your way in upcoming videos.
13:52 But what do you guys think of Magneto?
13:53 Let me know down below in the comment section.
13:54 Of the three that we've looked at so far.
13:56 Do you think this is a disappointing Magneto?
13:58 Or if you have collected this figure so far.
14:01 The rest of the X-Men 97 line.
14:03 Have you already swapped out this head with another Magneto?
14:05 If you did, which head sculpt did you end up using?
14:08 Also if you guys enjoyed this video.
14:10 I hit with a like.
14:10 But if you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing.
14:12 And you still want to stick around for the reviews of Storm, Bishop and Rogue.
14:16 Not necessarily in that order.
14:17 I think we might end up looking at maybe Rogue next.
14:20 I don't know.
14:20 I don't know.
14:21 We'll kind of look at the pile and kind of gauge it from there.
14:23 But of course we will be looking at those upcoming three reviews of the
14:26 continued looks at the X-Men 97 line.
14:28 So if that's the kind of thing you like to come back to this channel for.
14:31 Please make sure you're coming back here to check out those remaining reviews.
14:34 As always guys, thanks for watching.
14:36 See you guys next time.
