On Monday, Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, arrived in Aizawl, the capital of Manipur, to conduct a campaign for the party's candidates in the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for November 7. He initiated a padayatra, or a walking campaign, in the northeastern state. Gandhi is expected to stay in Aizawl for two days. His journey to Aizawl began with a helicopter ride from Agartala, the capital of Tripura, as confirmed by Lalremruata Renthlei, the chairman of the Mizoram Congress media cell.

Gandhi embarked on a padayatra, marching from Chanmari junction to Raj Bhavan, covering a distance of approximately 4-5 kilometers. He also addressed a rally near the governor's residence. In the evening, he planned to engage with students. During his visit, Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his astonishment at the PM and the Indian government's seemingly greater interest in the Israel-Hamas conflict compared to the situation in Manipur. He pointed out the ongoing violence and atrocities in Manipur, including murders, molestation of women, and harm to children.

Furthermore, Gandhi launched a strong criticism against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the central level, suggesting that demonetization and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) were deliberate measures intended to harm small and medium-sized businesses in the country.

00:00 Some months ago, I went to Manipur and I could not believe what I saw.
00:05 The idea of Manipur has been destroyed by the BJP.
00:09 It is no longer a state.
00:12 It is now two states.
00:16 People have been murdered, women have been molested, babies have been killed, but the
00:21 Prime Minister doesn't find it important to travel there.
00:25 It's amazing to me that the Prime Minister and the Government of India are so interested
00:31 in what is happening in Israel, but not interested at all in what is happening in Manipur.
00:36 If you look at our national media, you will find story after story after story, talk show
00:43 after talk show about what is going on in the Middle East.
00:49 But nobody in the national media speaks about what is going on in Manipur.
00:52 Nobody is talking about the pain, the misery that has been caused there.
00:59 And I simply cannot understand why the Prime Minister has not visited.
01:04 It is something to be ashamed of that the leader of our union has not travelled to the
01:13 state of Manipur after what has happened there.
01:16 And Manipur is just a symptom of the problem.
01:19 You can see the same problem in a smaller form in many different parts of the nation.
01:27 People from minority communities feeling uncomfortable, tribal people feeling uncomfortable, Dalit
01:34 people feeling uncomfortable.
01:36 There is an oppression being carried out on the people of India.
01:40 And I view it as an idea, as an attack on the idea of India.
01:45 So what has happened in Manipur is of course an attack on the people of Manipur, but it
01:49 is also an attack on the idea of India in Manipur.
01:54 It is the duty of every single Indian to protect every single religion, every single culture,
02:04 every single language, every single tradition of this country.
02:07 And that is what the Bharat Jodho Yatra was about.
02:10 We are fighting an election here and I would like you to consider what the government has
02:15 done over the last five years.
02:18 Drugs are spreading rampantly across the future generation.
02:23 250 young lives have been extinguished because of this.
02:28 And while the BJP attacks your culture, your religion, your tradition, the MNF supports
02:35 them in Delhi.
02:37 One of the people who I was walking with runs an NGO and he fights the drug menace.
02:48 So I asked him, what is the main reason for drugs in Manipur?
02:53 Sorry, Mizoram.
02:55 And his immediate answer was, the young people of Mizoram do not get jobs and so they do
03:02 not see a future for themselves.
03:05 Over the last five years, the MNF government has created only 2000 jobs.
03:11 Your infrastructure here, your roads here are in shambles and they are destroying the
03:18 economic future of the state.
03:20 The Congress party always has a good record for governance and for development.
03:27 If you look at our state governments, each one of them has a vision, a concept of how
03:35 to develop the state.
