Allegation surfaces during senate hearing that Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc. has counterpart for female members
Transcript
00:00 An upper chamber solon already has his own assessment of the Socorro Bayanihan Services
00:05 Incorporated after being part of those who inspected the site of the alleged cult over
00:11 the weekend.
00:12 In fact, for the lawmaker, other criminal charges might be filed against the group's
00:16 leaders after noting some of the possible violations after seeing the place with his
00:22 own eyes.
00:23 Daniel Manalastas has more.
00:28 There seems to be some truth on the allegation of the Socorro Bayanihan Services Incorporated
00:33 having a sister group.
00:35 This is what Senator Ronald De La Rosa believes and wants to be investigated as well.
00:40 De La Rosa said this seems to be located in the western part of Socorro.
00:44 "Basically, it's the same.
00:46 They said it's even more dangerous there because outside, it's not allowed to go in.
00:52 They have their own government there, their own currency.
00:58 They have their own currency there."
01:00 As the senator conducted an ocular inspection of the SBSI, he is convinced the group is
01:07 a cult organization, based on what he saw and even if the investigation has yet to complete.
01:13 "This is really a cult.
01:15 By all definitions, by all elements of a cult, you will see in the SBSI, a strict reference
01:26 to a single personality.
01:29 That's the cult.
01:31 That's all.
01:32 Their healing is full.
01:33 They are quack doctors.
01:34 People believe them.
01:35 They are being given drinks.
01:36 The goat milk.
01:48 That's very, very unsanitary.
01:51 You cannot give them drinks if they are not members of a cult.
01:59 Who is a decent person to drink?"
02:01 One thing that struck the senator was the graves of children in Capihan, which he also
02:05 once investigated.
02:06 "It's possible that it happened because there are no allegations about abortion.
02:12 But it could happen because it's just one day.
02:16 Your child died right away.
02:19 That's why I told the SBSI to investigate.
02:23 There are quacks there, there are minorities who told the committee hearing that they don't
02:31 know that they are pregnant."
02:33 For now, the leaders of SBSI are still detained in the Senate and may stay there indefinitely
02:39 unless they decided to tell the truth.
02:42 Daniela Manarastas for The Nation.
