00:00 Adam, well bowled tonight. I just heard on the broadcast a bit of a back spasm leading
00:13 in. Were you ever a chance of not playing this match and I guess how pleasing is it
00:17 to put in a performance like that, especially after a tough start to the campaign for the
00:21 team?
00:22 Yeah, this is a bit of a random one to be honest. I did a gym session a couple of nights
00:27 ago and I don't know if you've ever heard of back spasm but I was worse for wear the
00:32 last couple of days. I had to do a fitness test before the game today. I felt like adrenaline
00:38 was going to get me through and a bit of penidine fought. So yeah, it was a tough one to get
00:45 through today but I think as I said, one of those random ones that will hopefully wear
00:49 off in the next day or so.
00:51 Did you find it took you a little bit longer to get into your rhythm? So the second half
00:55 of your performance, that's where you took all your weights and you and Pat really tore
01:01 through the middle of it.
01:03 Yeah, definitely. It took me a lot longer than I wanted to get into the game today.
01:11 I mean, bowling to set batters as well, trying to build some pressure, I just wasn't really
01:17 able to do that. I won't make any excuses. I think I should be good enough to kind of
01:24 play that role as well but it's taking me a lot longer to get into the game than I would
01:29 have liked. I thought Kummer's spell in particular was a bit of a game changer for us and even
01:36 his energy in the field, the run out after the rain break, changed the energy for us.
01:42 And then once I was able to get a couple, we got on a bit of a roll and the energy changed
01:47 in the group. So yeah, we needed that one.
01:51 Jeremy touched on Pat there and his spell. I'm not sure if it came across your desk,
01:56 the talk about him potentially losing his spot ahead of this game. What were your thoughts
02:00 on that and just, I suppose, just how has it been for him from your view going through
02:05 a fair bit of scrutiny in recent times?
02:09 We all back each other in 100% in this team so I don't really know what's been said or
02:16 what people are reading but the only thing that I saw come on the WhatsApp group was
02:21 same 11 as last game. So yeah, there's no pressure on Paddy there. As I said, we've
02:28 got a really good feeling in the group in terms of backing each other, looking after
02:32 each other. So yeah, I don't know who said that.
02:37 And just the mood generally in the group having won this game tonight. What is the mood like
02:43 and what do you think it can do moving forward from here to give you a platform in the comp?
02:48 Yeah, I mean, after the first two games, definitely a flat feeling in the change rooms. We all
02:58 know that I think you could probably go from 1 to 11 and say we all could do our roles
03:01 a little bit better, particularly those first two games. But we know, as Byson said the
03:06 other day, we get backed into a corner and guys step up and we get on a roll and anything
03:14 can happen. It's a World Cup.
03:22 So get on a roll. Obviously, a really big game against Pakistan at Bangalore and if
03:29 we can kind of put it all together and play a good game there, you go 2-2 and the feeling
03:33 is much better there.
03:38 Adam, in the lead up to this game, in the media, you see your combined figures from
03:44 the first two games coming up a lot and a lot of talk about Australia's spin attack
03:50 in this World Cup and all of that. Have you felt any sort of pressure because you're the
03:54 one, the big main wicket-taking spinner in the squad? And also, how has the team sort
04:01 of backed you through? What's been a difficult start for you?
04:06 I'm very good at self-reflection. So, yeah, I look back on the first two games and I probably
04:13 look at the last game as one where I could have made a difference there and made it easier
04:17 for those other guys. But yeah, the Indian game, I mean, we're under the pump defending
04:22 200 and I'm always going to be the guy who tries to get wickets. I'm not going to try
04:27 and let the game peter out and let it go into nothing. So, yeah, the figures, whatever,
04:32 it's more about my attitude and reflecting on that too. Did I bowl the ball where I wanted
04:37 it to? Did I make the right decisions? Did I put my game on the line to try and make
04:44 a difference? And that's kind of where, that's how I think about it. I don't really care
04:48 about combined figures. It's just, you know, just doing what I can to try and help win
04:53 the game.
04:54 Just on that, Adam, against India, he bowled in conditions where there's a lot of view
05:01 and it's tough to get the ball. In the last two games, the ball's moving the way. How
05:05 much of a difference is it proving to be in this world, depending on bowling first and
05:10 bowling second as we speak?
05:12 Yeah, I think it just depends on the grounds that we're playing at. I've found that
05:18 it didn't really make any difference here. I know that we didn't bowl second in the
05:24 first game, in the second game against South Africa. But yeah, I think some grounds, you
05:33 know, we always try and think about the IPL and how much it gets easier to bat in the
05:38 second innings, but the games start a lot later. So it hasn't really made much of a
05:42 difference in terms of, you know, that second innings batting, if anything, we found against
05:46 South Africa, it actually did more once the lights came on as well. So yeah, I mean, yeah,
05:54 it's just going to be dependent on the grounds and the weather. And I wish I was a weatherman.
06:00 I have no idea.
06:01 Neither do I. But speaking of weather, just being in the middle, when you felt at one
06:06 point that the stadium was coming apart and stuff was falling around, what was it like
06:10 being out there?
06:11 Yeah, I've never been a part of that. Never seen anything like that. Quite lucky that
06:18 there was no one harmed, hopefully. Yeah, because that metal pole coming down could
06:22 have seriously hurt someone. So never seen anything like that. And then, yeah, the dust,
06:27 the windstorm was straight into the goggles.
06:30 Hi. So what was Warner's reaction to the LPW dismissal? He seemed very infuriated by
06:39 that. And also, Australia have seen a number of marginal decisions go against them. How
06:45 does the team cope with that?
06:49 When David Warner gets out or Steve Smith gets out, you kind of just disappear from
06:53 the changing room. So I'm not sure of his reaction. But yeah, we had one. I had that
06:58 LPW off my bowling today that kind of went our way as well. So it's just, I don't know,
07:05 I'm not going to try and judge the DRS on what it does. It's the technology that does
07:10 the thing.
07:11 Adam, can you just take us a little bit inside the conversations when Sri Lanka were 125
07:17 for the first wicket, not able to get a wicket in the power play, and then sort of the intensity
07:23 after that and sort of how you guys were able to respond given South Africa did the same
07:27 thing four days ago?
07:30 Yeah, we'd mentioned it out there. Obviously, the first two games, we'd known that we'd
07:34 been a bit flat. And then that happened again. You know, they were none for the conversations
07:39 around the drinks, breaks, and even the early wickets there was to lift the energy a bit.
07:44 And I thought the fielders did a really good job of that. The ring kind of tightened up
07:48 and then Davies, a couple of catches, changed the game for us. And then obviously mentioned
07:53 Pat, he kind of led by the front. His spell changed the momentum of the game. And then
07:59 same as in the field, that run out, those little things can turn scores from 210 to
08:04 260 and it's game on. So he particularly led by the front.
08:13 Adam, you had your rongan going well tonight. Do you feel like that's a bit of a barometer
08:18 for you and you're bowling that well or you're bowling well?
08:21 Yes and no. I mean, Tay Lenders come out. It's kind of my wicket-taking option. So yeah,
08:32 it's kind of something that I go back to in my head if I feel like I'm not in the game.
08:36 I go, "All right, how can I get a wicket and how can I get myself bowling better, more
08:42 energy? Can I try a little bit more, put the batsmen under the pump, rongans, sliders or
08:47 whatever it is?" I guess if that's coming out well, I feel like I've got the confidence
08:52 to bowl wherever I want it.
08:57 And just on the batting innings, you lost Smith and Warner early, obviously the two
09:01 big names there. But just how much confidence do you have in them for the rest of the audit
09:04 to get that job done tonight?
09:07 Yeah, minus does what minus does. And then it made guys like Ingo's job a lot easier.
09:13 He obviously put the bowlers under the pump straight away. I think Sharna, hitting in
09:18 for two boundaries and two balls, it does it. It changes the momentum instead of having
09:23 that kind of attacking feeling when you're bowling to a new batter. That kind of just
09:28 makes you go straight back to your defensive stuff. So he changed the – he put the pressure
09:33 back on the bowler, get a runner ball on that wicket. It was great innings. And yeah, Maxi
09:39 and I think Maxi decided to work on the net run rate. So him and Stoyan finished it off
09:44 really well.
