00:00 I worked really hard at it.
00:01 And I think if I remember correctly,
00:04 I did it in a couple of takes.
00:05 - I mean, it didn't look like CGI, so.
00:07 - No, it's not CGI. - You must've gotten it, right?
00:09 - It is not CGI.
00:10 - James E. Wu, FBI.
00:12 - Bonafide joint multi-service response.
00:15 Really looking forward to the commemorative t-shirt.
00:17 - So I will start with kind of a blunt question,
00:20 which is, was Darcy Lewis blipped?
00:22 - That was also a question I had.
00:25 That was talked about at length with the writers.
00:29 I don't think she was blipped.
00:31 So I would like a flashback to see Darcy not blipped.
00:36 That would be very funny.
00:38 But we decided she wasn't blipped.
00:39 - Was Jimmy Wu blipped?
00:41 - Well, you know, I did ask that question
00:46 during the making of this,
00:48 and I've gotten various answers, theories.
00:51 I don't know the answer for sure,
00:53 but my theory is that he wasn't.
00:58 Because he needed that time to learn that card trick.
01:02 - Someone must really miss you back at Quantico.
01:04 - No, sir.
01:05 Softball season's over, sir.
01:07 - I actually was going to specifically ask
01:08 about the card flip, because it is a great callback
01:11 that is just like within his intro.
01:13 - How'd you do it, Scott?
01:15 - Do what?
01:15 - The card trick.
01:18 - I'm curious though, was that something
01:19 that you already knew how to do,
01:21 or was that something that maybe took a few takes?
01:23 - No, I didn't know how to do it,
01:25 but I learned it maybe a couple of days before,
01:27 and worked really hard on it,
01:29 'cause I didn't want to screw it up.
01:30 I didn't want to have to do like 40 takes of that one thing.
01:35 - Far.
01:36 - So I worked really hard at it,
01:37 and I think if I remember correctly,
01:40 I did it in a couple takes.
01:42 - Nice.
01:42 - Or maybe five takes.
01:43 - It looks great in the show.
01:44 - Thank you.
01:45 - I mean, it didn't look like CGI, so.
01:46 - No, it's not CGI.
01:47 - You must have gotten it, right?
01:48 - It is not CGI.
01:49 - Seriously?
01:50 - You had a bit of a tempestuous relationship
01:53 with Scott Lang when we first met Jimmy Wu.
01:56 - Well, sorry for that.
01:57 - But I'm curious, yeah, but I mean,
01:59 so like at this point,
02:00 after like seeing everything that happened
02:02 in "Avengers Endgame,"
02:03 do you think that his perspective on superheroes
02:06 has maybe changed,
02:07 and do you think maybe he brags about knowing Scott Lang?
02:10 - I think so.
02:12 I think so.
02:13 I think Jimmy is kind of, yeah,
02:17 he's kind of, he uses it for cool points, you know?
02:22 Like I think, you know,
02:24 there is a childlike nature about him, you know?
02:27 - Magic.
02:28 - And I could for sure see that playing out
02:31 in his recollection of his times with Scott.
02:36 - It totally romanticized,
02:37 he was there along with him the entire way.
02:39 - Yeah, totally, yeah.
02:41 Making up stuff that didn't happen, you know.
02:43 Did you want to grab dinner or something?
02:46 I mean, 'cause I'm free.
02:47 - We haven't seen Darcy since "Thor, The Dark World,"
02:50 and that means like in addition to the amount of time
02:52 that we haven't seen her,
02:53 it means she was also living through the entire time
02:55 that she wasn't blipped.
02:56 So like how far did you go
02:58 as far as just kind of like mapping her life?
03:01 - Well, that's right.
03:02 So there, you know, a lot is addressed,
03:06 but nothing to do with the time exactly
03:09 and what Darcy's been doing.
03:10 So it's kind of up to the viewer to fill that in.
03:13 But as an actor, for me, I was like, okay,
03:15 well, she's seen some stuff.
03:18 She's obviously lived through some things
03:20 and she's been in college this entire time.
03:22 So I think she's just the same exact Darcy,
03:27 but now she's a professional and she demands respect.
03:31 - Miss Lewis.
03:32 - Dr. Lewis.
03:35 - And actually, I mean, was that kind of part of it?
03:36 Just like as far as the dialogue,
03:37 because it's classic Darcy snark
03:40 when she's especially like back in the back of the van
03:42 with those other scientists.
03:43 Like, was there a process of just making sure
03:45 that the voice was right?
03:47 - Yes.
03:48 Actually, that's such a good question
03:50 because when you're acting,
03:52 there are only a few things you can do.
03:54 You can't change your face,
03:56 but you can change your voice and how you speak.
03:58 So I've tried, I mean, my voice is so annoying
04:02 and people are definitely quick to point that out
04:05 and there's nothing I can do about it.
04:06 So I definitely did watch some Darcy stuff
04:10 just to remember what I was doing with my voice
04:12 and my register and try to bring it a little more down
04:17 'cause now she's a professional, she's a doctor.
04:21 Maybe I could get that coffee now?
04:23 Or not.
04:26 That's cool.
04:27 - One of the cool things about Jimmy Woo's role
04:29 and kind of like the whole sword operation in "WandaVision"
04:32 is that it's kind of a fan surrogate program.
04:34 They're watching "WandaVision" the same way
04:36 that fans are watching "WandaVision"
04:38 and trying to just pick out all the clues.
04:40 Was that something that was an influence
04:42 on your performance?
04:45 - It wasn't something that I was fully conscious of
04:48 until I saw the episodes, you know?
04:52 But it was something that I was conscious of
04:56 in terms of just the character being very confused,
05:00 you know, and wanting to find the answers
05:03 to these questions.
05:04 I mean, that was a genuine thing
05:06 that Jimmy was going through.
05:07 - Between you, me, and the bedpost,
05:09 I am not confident about this mission.
05:11 - And it wasn't until I watched the episodes
05:13 that I was like, "Oh, wow, the audience is going through
05:16 the exact same thing,
05:17 and they're asking the exact same questions
05:19 that he's writing on the board," you know,
05:21 which is pretty amazing and really cool
05:25 to represent the audience in that way.
05:28 - Yeah, it was definitely that fun moment
05:31 of Darcy and Jimmy Woo eating chips,
05:33 watching the show like the viewer.
05:35 'Cause, you know, the first three episodes on purpose
05:38 are kind of, you're just like, "What is going on?
05:41 What is happening?
05:41 What is this?"
05:43 And then to see another character
05:45 or two other characters also being like,
05:47 "What am I watching?"
05:48 There's something really fun about that.
05:50 And I think it's a really fun guidepost for the viewer
05:54 to see other people being confused.
05:56 - The jig is up.
05:57 - Like, how much did you actually know
05:59 about what's going on?
06:00 - Well, I had a very unique opportunity
06:04 where we did do table reads.
06:06 So I actually got the scripts.
06:09 - Whoa.
06:10 - Which I didn't expect at all.
06:12 So I knew what was going on.
06:15 I mean, whoa.
06:17 But there was a point in filming where I was like,
06:19 "You know, Darcy doesn't know everything.
06:23 I don't wanna know everything.
06:24 And also, I don't wanna know too much
06:27 so that I don't have to hide too much."
06:29 So it was partially self-preservation
06:31 and partially for my character that there was a point
06:34 where I just focused on Darcy's stuff.
06:37 And so I don't really know exactly what happens anymore.
06:42 Along with everybody else.
06:43 - I did kind of know most of it.
06:47 I wouldn't say all of it, but I knew most of it going in.
06:50 And, but you just, when you're in the scene,
06:54 you're just kind of in the moment.
06:56 And you kind of forget about what you know,
07:00 because it's just, you're just kind of living it.
07:04 And it is genuinely perplexing, the situation.
07:07 - Well, you're not Randall Park, you're Jimmy Woo.
07:09 - Yeah, exactly.
07:10 (laughing)
07:12 So yeah, I mean, it did feel like a puzzle.
07:14 It felt like a puzzle that we were trying to figure out.
07:17 - I'm only through the Ds, but so far I got Diddly Squad.
07:19 - Speaking entirely theoretically,
07:22 we know that Jane Foster is going to be becoming Thor
07:25 in the next Thor movie.
07:26 What do you think Darcy Lewis's reaction
07:28 to seeing that would be?
07:30 - Just complete confusion.
07:32 Probably still attracted to Thor,
07:36 but maybe in a more platonic way.
07:39 - But why?
07:40 - Hey man, we're working with the same scarcity of intel.
07:43 I don't know, as a fan, I'm desperate for this movie.
07:46 I mean, I'm like, I can't wait for it.
07:49 - Same.
07:50 Well, thank you so much again for taking the time today.
07:52 I cannot wait to see more of this show
07:54 and more of Darcy Lewis.
07:55 So thank you again.
07:56 - Thank you.
