00:00 Welcome back to the 50th anniversary of the Four Peaks Octoberfest here at
00:07 Tempe Town Lake. Very excited today is running of the brats but Bobby they got
00:13 to have brats to run right? They have to have brats and we do have brats we have
00:17 lots of brats we've got a California brat we got a jalapeno brat we got a
00:21 traditional brat. I love it and people have to realize that these brats just
00:25 don't make their selves. There's people actually are back here making and this
00:28 is behind the scenes that people don't get to see. This is the behind the scenes
00:32 look and this is open fire mesquite char broiled brats and man they come off
00:39 steaming hot and they are delicious. Yeah and so there goes our chef master right
00:44 there putting those brats together and so and this is a very interesting
00:47 technique that they do. Oh I never knew they did that right there. Yes so we can
00:51 do them in mass and keep the crowds happy we don't want anybody going home
00:55 hungry. Yeah and I know Bobby your job each year and I know it's one of the
00:58 thing that you love doing and that's counting how many brats are eaten each
01:02 year right? We do keep track and they're up to upwards in the 30,000 range. That's
01:09 amazing well we know also too there's a big brat eating contest this morning
01:12 that our very own stew is gonna be a part of. It starts at $2.45 so can people
01:17 still get in that competition or is it already closed? I think it's closed but
01:20 we could pick up a few stragglers if you're really ambitious. All right last
01:24 night kicked off so let's talk about what's gonna be going on today after the
01:27 race. After the race they get to have a free brat, a beverage but we also have
01:32 yoga in the park, we have the roving dancing devils, we have the wiener dog
01:39 races later on and we have the stein holding contest later on. I like that
01:44 okay what time's the gates open actually? The gates open at 10 a.m. and they stay
01:48 open until midnight. Midnight and then you come back on Sunday for more. And the
01:52 whole family can come in on Sunday and it's all free. Right now on Saturday
01:58 anybody over 21 is $20, anybody under 21 is free and on Sunday everybody is free.
02:05 I like that and there's new rides, new games, new things for everybody to come out and see.
02:09 So if you said oh I was here last year doesn't mean you were here last year.
02:13 We still have a great new Kinderfest, we've got lots of other, the wiener dog
02:19 races are very very popular. Yeah so Bobbi we also mentioned too this isn't
02:23 about really coming out and having fun but the real thing is
02:28 about the community and giving back and that's what this Oktoberfest is all
02:31 about. The Tempe Sister Cities is the producers of the Oktoberfest and we've
02:35 been doing it for 50 years. All the proceeds go back to our student, teacher
02:40 and professional exchange. We also have quite a humanitarian impact on some of
02:45 our sister cities. Yeah I'll tell you it's great. Why do you do it Bobbi? I do
02:49 it because I love giving back. My daughter was a beneficiary of the
02:53 program and now she's a pediatrician. It was a very impactful on her life and the
02:59 people involved, it's all these professional people from all different
03:03 walks of life coming together to grill rots, to serve beer. This is our grill
03:09 meister Brad is a totally different person in another life, in another day.
03:15 Yeah and people come out to volunteer that's also too. You want to thank all
03:18 those people who came out last minute volunteering because there was a time
03:21 you needed volunteers. Do you still need some more for tonight? I think we're
03:24 getting pretty close to capacity but you know if you want to sell a few brats I
03:29 got a place for you. I like it. Okay Kids Corner as we said family time for
03:34 everybody. Some really cool things over there right? The Kinderfest is one of our
03:37 highlights. You can get your face painted, you can take these rides. Oh the kids are
03:41 screaming over there. I love it this is awesome. Well I want to remind people it
03:45 is the 50th anniversary of the Four Peaks Oktoberfest and it's happening this
03:49 weekend, today and tomorrow. So come on out enjoy music, beer, there's something
03:55 for entire family to enjoy at the Tempe Town Lake. So grab your tickets at
03:58 fourpeaksoktoberfest.com and get out here people. It's a blast. The brats are ready to go.
04:04 Stew we've been working on for the brat eating contest. It'll be really good. I
04:08 know we're gonna be talking beer soon right? I hope so because I'm thirsty.
04:12 Yeah me too. All right hey come on back we got more of the weekend edition of
04:15 the Arizona Daily Mix from the Four Peaks Oktoberfest.
