The first concert we attend is an experience that stays with us forever. Birmingham, known for its thriving music scene, offers plenty of opportunities to witness exceptional live performances. Iconic musicians from across the world come here, and I'm here to find out about the first gig people here saw in the city.

00:02 Okay, so I can't remember the first ski go into in Birmingham.
00:06 I mean, to too many over the years, I don't suppose,
00:09 but ones that stand out include Prince,
00:13 who was at the NEC, won the Halls at the NEC,
00:18 about a year before he died.
00:20 So that was pretty cool.
00:22 It was quite amazing to see him.
00:24 We had to stand up for about three hours,
00:26 but we managed it.
00:29 Who else was, I saw Low,
00:30 from all the way from Duluth, Minnesota,
00:34 at the Town Hall about three or four years ago,
00:37 something like that.
00:38 They were tremendous, really good.
00:40 The fantastic venue, the Town Hall.
00:42 They've really done a good job of it inside.
00:44 And even the guys in the band said,
00:46 "What a wonderful venue it was."
00:47 So it's gotta be good.
00:49 What else was in Elbow, Saw at the NIA.
00:55 That's probably, I don't know, 10 years ago.
00:57 Again, I mean, they've all been great.
00:59 We're gonna see Squid tonight,
01:03 at the Town Hall as well.
01:05 And in fact, in a couple of weeks,
01:06 we're gonna see Robert Fripp and Torrie Wilcox.
01:09 - I went to see GLS in Birmingham, and it was great.
01:13 The first concert I ever went to, and it was amazing.
01:16 Loved the atmosphere, loved the arena,
01:18 and it was just fantastic.
01:19 - Well, this was actually a funny one.
01:23 The first concert I went to in Birmingham
01:25 is actually the only one I went to is Tegda.
01:28 I didn't have a clue what's Tegda.
01:29 I'm French, and I've got a bad culture about that.
01:33 And they came to eat to my restaurant,
01:34 so they invited me to their show
01:35 after to go to the next day.
01:36 It actually was really good.
01:38 It was really good fun.
01:40 Really, really good fun.
01:41 That's it.
01:43 - So the first concert I went to see
01:46 was GLS from my sister.
01:48 It wasn't the best concert, but it was a good concert.
01:51 I feel like there's a lot of people,
01:54 and it was a good scenery.
01:55 I didn't like the music, but other than that,
01:58 it was quite good.
01:59 It was Birmingham for you, very lively, active,
02:03 and that's it, really.
02:05 But yeah, the music scene in Birmingham,
02:07 different, different, but completely different.
02:10 So when I say different, it's just a lot of drill music.
02:13 You've got a lot of different even regular artists
02:15 that have made it from Birmingham,
02:17 like Travel the World.
02:18 And it's quite a nice place, to be honest with you.
02:23 You get on the wrong side of people,
02:24 that's how they play for you, innit?
02:26 But yeah, that's it, that's it.
02:28 - I've only lived in Birmingham for six years,
02:32 and I'm ashamed to say so.
02:34 I haven't seen any gigs at all at the moment,
02:37 but I did go to the festival we had this year,
02:40 every single day,
02:42 and I went to the incredible jazz festival every single day.
02:46 And I cannot mention my channel, can I?
02:48 But I filmed the jazz festival
02:50 on my YouTube channel every night,
02:52 and every day, and I filmed the 2023 festival.
02:57 And both of them were wonderful and unmissable.
03:00 So you must watch my channel.
