I Chose My Donor Based On Their Race | MY EXTRAORDINARY FAMILY

BROOKE, 28, from the Gold Coast, Australia has five children; nine-year-old Edward, seven-year-old Gilbert, five-year-old Odette, two-year-old Nora and Mabel who is nine months old. Brooke told Truly: “I have always wanted a large family - I am one of seven siblings.” She conceived with her daughter, Nora, through a sperm donor, who she chose based on their race. Brooke said: “My first daughter, Odette, is half Japanese and that is why I chose to try and find an Asian donor when I was conceiving with Nora.” Brooke decided to start posting on TikTok to share her experiences as a parent and received a lot of backlash when she posted a video about how she chose a donor. “A lot of people say that I’m racist or that I have an Asian fetish because I have chosen an Asian donor.” She further explained: “The judgemental comments did make me feel a bit upset but I also know myself and know that I’m not racist or have an Asian fetish so had to remind myself of that.” Brooke has also faced judgement about having a lot of children, using a donor to conceive and her children all having different fathers but she wants people not to judge others on the ‘snippets’ they see of other people’s lives on social media.
