South-west Victorian conservationist Jarah Marginata, 28, is leading an effort with Friends of Tower Hill to revitalise the sugar glider population in the area, about 20km from Warrnambool.

00:24 A hundred gliders were released in total, but after a lack of management through the
00:30 90s and early 2000s, the population appears to have declined from over a hundred down
00:35 to an estimated seven.
00:37 There is an increase in young people coming into the industry and it's always a good sign.
00:42 The field always needs more, but the main issue is budgeting.
00:46 There's just not a lot of funding, like Australia-wide, going into conservation efforts.
00:52 The people are there, they just can't find their place in the industry.
