00:06 Robert Irwin is continuing his dad's legacy in a beautiful way.

00:09 The wildlife conservationist shared with social media followers

00:12 that the Australia Zoo recently welcomed a very special new creature

00:16 that is tied back to his late father.

00:18 This is the very first Alsaea irwini, Irwin's turtle,

00:22 ever hatched for any zoological facility anywhere in the world.

00:29 This species is a turtle that dad originally discovered out in the wild.

00:34 And for the first time, we've got a little baby.

00:38 And right now, he's going to get his first swim in a brand new pond.

00:42 This is a little slice of the wild.

00:44 Steve discovered the rare kind of turtle more than three decades ago,

00:47 and Robert gushed over being able to help protect the species.

00:50 This is one of the highlights of my entire life

00:53 and one of the most special moments ever for Australia Zoo.

00:58 The 19-year-old also appeared to feel all the emotions

01:00 as he reflected on the magnitude of the moment.

01:02 All the stories from dad about just how amazing and beautiful they are.

01:07 I don't get emotional that much.

01:09 Dad would be really proud, man.

01:12 Dad would be stoked with that.

01:19 He captioned his video, "Wow, this was a special moment."

01:23 I think dad would be pretty proud that we've become the first

01:26 to successfully breed the turtle that he discovered.

01:28 A rare and unique species under threat in the wild

01:31 has just been given a second chance.

01:33 Robert is passionate about seeing his father's work through

01:35 and told Access Hollywood all about it at the 2023 Steve Irwin Gala Dinner.

01:39 What he exemplified is creating a legacy.

01:43 And that's something I think about every day, is legacy.

01:45 Is not only what you can do to honor dad's legacy,

01:49 but how do you create your own as well?

01:51 You know, like, and I think that everyone,

01:54 every single person can do that within our own lives.

01:58 And I love that he led with that example,

02:01 that even though he was one person, mum was one person,

02:04 when they came together, that team created a legacy

02:08 that's continued on for decades and will continue on

02:11 for as long as Bindi and I draw breath and Chandler and Grace

02:15 and now all the new team members, you know,

02:17 all the new family members that are coming on board.

02:19 Isn't it incredible?

02:20 One person created all of that and one person continues all of that.

02:25 And I think that is a pretty amazing, pretty amazing thing to live by.
