00:00 everybody watching on GTV and all over social media on GMA Sports P8 and NCAA Philippines.
00:07 Anton Ross alongside JV Mocon and later on we also have our courtside reporters Nizel
00:12 Nerves and Julia Ong reporting for Benil and EAC respectively.
00:17 And the first possession will go to the Benil Blazers who are riding on a 3 game winning
00:23 streak JV.
00:24 Both of these teams, they want to get to that top 4 spots.
00:33 Conchabo, Robin, Angeles on the drive and Turco comes up with the board.
00:42 We were talking about it Antones, Wilco also really needs to step up his game.
00:47 He's the only missing piece here.
00:50 Well alongside Cortez, who played really good a couple first games.
00:56 Will Gossom, the reigning MVP, his numbers down from last season.
01:04 So obviously that is something that is glaring when we look at these statistics.
01:13 Just 10.7 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per outing this season for the reigning MVP.
01:19 But still, that's very decent for any player in the NCAA.
01:25 We're talking about Will Gossom, last season's MVP.
01:28 So hopefully he'll step up his game and of course he's not only hearing it from us, he's
01:34 hearing it from Coach Charles and the whole CSP community.
01:37 That's how high our expectations are for Will Gossom.
01:41 Alright, let's get an update on this EAC General Squad.
01:46 As I mentioned earlier, Julia Ong is with us and she has this report on the generals.
01:51 Thank you so much Anton.
01:53 Through ups and downs in the system of course, Gerson's built this, the EAC Generals Trust.
01:58 So even though they fell short in their last game, they know that they can recover.
02:03 They said they can still fight back if they can beat the enemy.
02:06 But that was just a joke by Captain JP Magollano.
02:09 Like you said, they were out-rebounded by the Golden Stags and that was accompanied
02:12 by poor decision making.
02:14 So now, that's what they'll improve on.
02:16 They said they'll get a double kill if they lose.
02:18 Coach Charles already answered that, he's still in the standings.
02:21 So now, until the last second, they'll follow the system and won't let themselves be defeated.
02:26 Your thoughts Anton and JP?
02:28 Finally EAC gets on the board and via one of their usual suspects,
02:42 Ralph Robin.
02:44 Their problem is the rebounding of the EAC.
02:52 But that's a good pass and a great 3-point shot there to start off this game.
02:56 Their rebounding and their lack of intensity during the San Sebastian game.
03:02 Yeah, that was a head-scratcher of a game to me.
03:07 Considering the fact that coming into that matchup against San Sebastian,
03:10 back-to-back wins.
03:12 The EAC Generals.
03:14 And San Sebastian, they lost 14 points against Perpetual.
03:20 Maybe that's also a factor.
03:22 The EAC lost against big teams.
03:26 Maybe they became complacent because they're playing San Sebastian
03:31 for only 3-5 years.
03:33 So there's that complacency and confidence factor.
03:37 That's why it's a bit off-putting.
03:39 Meanwhile, second triple of the game for Ralph Robin
03:43 as we get this report on the Benil side with Nizel Nerves.
03:47 Thank you Anton.
03:48 The Benil Blazers are definitely blazing through their previous games
03:51 obtaining three consecutive wins.
03:52 Now aiming for their fourth today as they rise up to the ranks.
03:55 Coach Charles Schub said one thing to me,
03:57 the team still has a lot to improve.
03:59 When it comes to turnovers and speeding up the game,
04:02 Coach Charles Schub's advice is to keep it simple and efficient.
04:05 To take care of the ball and just play basketball.
04:08 Will the Blazers bring these reminders to the game?
04:11 We'll see, Anton and JV.
04:13 Coach Charles Schub was right.
04:17 Take care of the ball, Nizel Nerves' report.
04:21 That's a good report and also a good observation there by Coach Charles Schub.
04:26 The CSB had a hard time with the way they handed the ball.
04:30 We have to give credit to Prince Carlos and Robin Ivey
04:34 who's been great at that point guard duty.
04:37 Prince Carlos is having his best season in a Benil uniform.
04:42 His numbers are up.
04:44 That's a good sign for him playing in his final season here in the NCAA.
04:50 Robin grabs his own miss.
04:54 Robin attacks.
04:56 Angeles will try to get the ball out of the corner.
05:00 And that's three three-pointers for the Generals to start the game.
05:05 What a way to start the game.
05:08 Three three-pointers here in the AAC.
05:10 So that's to CSB, they got to look to that.
05:14 They got a three-point shot but it was caught by Biggs Oxon with his own three-point.
05:20 Almost great defense there by Prince Carlos as he tried to defend the attacker.
05:33 But we can see here, Biggs set up.
05:36 A good execution there by the open three-pointer.
05:39 They have their driving kicks.
05:41 So they have a free three-point shot here.
05:43 The AAC Generals are ready to start the game.
05:50 That's a good sign for new head coach, Gerson Camiltes.
05:55 Trying to bounce back today.
05:58 Josejo to Robin, extra pass.
06:01 Angeles, libre.
06:02 And Josejo trying to secure the rebound.
06:06 That Josejo.
06:07 Stolen away by Will Gozo.
06:10 Here comes the reigning MVP, Will Gozo.
06:14 Fouled and he will head to the line for two.
06:16 This is Will Gozo that we've been talking about last year.
06:19 Season 98 MVP.
06:21 He was playing the passing lane.
06:24 He got the steal.
06:25 And then with the Euro step, he got a foul and he's going to make two free throws here.
06:32 Last season in 22 games, Will Gozo averaged 16.7 points per game.
06:38 9.4 rebounds per outing, 1.7 assists and 1.1 blocks per contest.
06:45 Almost double-double Will last season.
06:49 At the same time, he's only 10 points per game this season.
06:52 So there's a big disparity between--
06:55 The difference is only one year, right?
06:57 And he's still the reigning MVP here.
07:03 And that is very surprising considering that there's unfinished business for Will Gozo and the Benil Blazers.
07:10 So you would think that the motivation is still there for him.
07:14 Maybe Will's mentality has changed.
07:17 Not only scoring, he wants to win games, win the championship.
07:22 So he's letting his teammates down.
07:25 But of course, his heart is also blossoming, Prince Carlos.
07:31 Coach Charles Thieu calls a timeout.
07:33 The EAC Generals lead by four.

08:14 All right.
08:15 Let's take a look at the team standings.
08:17 Because this is the third to the last game day, actually, before the elimination round ends.
08:25 So this is really a battle.
08:28 Both teams here, as Benil tried to extend their winning streak.
08:34 And also, the Generals to come back off from a loss.
08:37 But most especially, this win, they're going to take a crack here to get to the final four spot.
08:45 At the same time, they're really close.
08:47 So you need to get all the wins that you can get, especially here for the EAC Generals, as they are the underdog here.
08:54 And JV, Benil and the EAC, after this, on Sunday, they still have a game.
09:03 So that will be their last game.
09:06 On Sunday, for the first round.
09:09 And of course, the highly anticipated rematch in the finals between Benil and LeTranc.
09:14 [ANNOUNCER SPEAKING IN TAGALOG]
09:17 As we can see here, Prince Carlos, hitting that corner three.
09:21 [ANNOUNCER SPEAKING IN TAGALOG]
09:23 It's a grind-out season.
09:24 [ANNOUNCER SPEAKING IN TAGALOG]
09:27 So you have to, you know, what they always say, availability is the best ability.
09:34 Meanwhile, inside pass, Bakud is able to score.
09:38 And of course, we also want to give a shout-out to the LeTranc Knights, who finally picked up their first win of the season.
09:52 Well, that's Coach Renzi's first win here in the NCAA Season 99.
09:55 And that's a good sign. Also, Rayson was injured.
10:00 Yeah, Rayson sat out with a groin injury.
10:04 But his teammates picked up the slack.
10:07 Oxon.
10:11 Gozum, hand-off.
10:16 Nabitawan.
10:17 Turco, back to Will.
10:20 And those shots like that, JV, are very makeable for Will Gozum.
10:26 That's why it's shocking to me to see.
10:29 I don't know if Will is getting nervous or something, but last year, Will would just feast in the paint.
10:38 Oh, he's just very different, you know, the way his body language.
10:43 We're not saying he's playing bad, but he's not playing himself.
10:47 This is Will Gozum, but those shots, it's either two points or a foul here.
10:53 He's not in his MVP form as of the moment.
10:56 Exactly. But also give credit to Nat Coseo for that great defense without fouling here, Will.
11:02 Meanwhile, JP Maguliano, the only player averaging a double-double, believe it or not, here in NCAA Season 99.
11:13 Luciano, stolen.
11:15 Kahukom to Oxon. Oxon, he's stopped in the air.
11:20 And Corteza, this guy is an absolute workhorse.
11:24 Yeah, this is Migs Corteza, but at the same time, he's not really playing.
11:30 Their first couple of games, Corteza did well, but in the past couple of games, he's been losing.
11:36 At the same time, Will is also losing.
11:39 It's like Will lost them both at the same time.
11:41 Maguliano, fadeaway. Oxon with the board.
11:49 Naibe on the drive. Roby Naibe powering his way up for that basket.
11:55 How good Naibe has been for the CSP Blazers, covering all the scoring and also Roby Naibe's leadership ability.
12:06 And they have been the duo here, Migs Oxon and Roby Naibe.
12:12 Especially in the fourth quarter runs, they have the endgame runs.
12:16 Ochabo, floater off the glass.
12:20 And Maguliano seems to be mad about something.
12:26 And defeating earlier Oxon and then Corteza with a rebound and putback.
12:32 And just bullying his way to the basket, Roby Naibe, the captain of the Blazers.
12:42 What's good about Roby Naibe, he really missed the match. He attacked without running any plays.
12:47 And that's always his forte, bringing in the table for Coach Charles.
12:54 His value is just attacking the basket.
12:57 And also, he can see the reads, he can see the exit pass, his open teammates.
13:02 Definitely a lot of expectations for Roby Naibe.
13:09 As the leader and extension of the coach on the hard court, Corteza is in the game for the first time.
13:17 Sanco.
13:21 And it's going to be a general's basketball.
13:26 Corteza, you know he's gonna let it fly.
13:30 That's what he is sent in to do, put up numbers on the board right away.
13:37 And Coach Gerson Cabildes wants to talk things over EAC down by one.

14:20 [Music]
14:23 Let's take a look at the last game of the Benil Blazers, their third straight win, JV, after a rocky start to Season 99.
14:33 The Blazers are really up and down this season, but they always grind out their endgame executions.
14:40 So we can see here, the third quarter of Arellano, they weathered the storm on that fourth quarter run.
14:45 And the three players on that clutch, they scored a lot.
14:50 They have Migs Oxon and they have Prince Carlos securing that game.
14:55 But Willie, the one we're looking for, he only scored two points on that game.
14:59 As we can see here, this EAC versus San Sebastian, San Sebastian is really in control.
15:05 Stags the whole game, they out-rebounded.
15:08 This EAC, the energy is gone.
15:11 That's why EAC really lost that game.
15:14 That was definitely shocking, considering that EAC was on a high coming into that contest.
15:23 But as you mentioned earlier, probably a little bit of complacency for these guys.
15:32 But all it takes is a loss to sometimes wake up the players.
15:38 Yes, of course, going into, as we can see here, Gortiza, they're shooting the lights out here on this first quarter.
15:46 But we can see the complacency, because they're beating strong teams.
15:54 Oh wow, King Gortiza with a three and the rejection.
16:00 Good timing there on that block by Gortiza.
16:05 I was talking about the complacency of EAC, they woke up with that loss.
16:11 Of course, we can see here, the start of their game, it's really hot.
16:15 King Gortiza, say it with your chest, a rejection on Marcos.
16:22 And he draws a foul. He's all over the place. King Gortiza.
16:30 And it just came off the bench, King Gortiza providing the energy.
16:35 And that has been the strategy, JB, for the Governor of Gord, Gerson Cavintez.
16:40 They're switching Robin and Gortiza. It's only in the fourth quarter where they're playing on the court at the same time.
16:47 Yes, the game plan is always good here at AAC.
16:51 You can see the way they execute the play, they have their attack points, and of course, the rotation.
16:59 And here's Tolentino, defended by the rookie, Jericho Jalalod.
17:04 Familiar name, of course, a name that you're very familiar with.
17:08 You guys had your battles, especially in the NCAA Finals.
17:12 And Jericho Jalalod, of course, the younger brother of Giovanni Jalalod, there he is.
17:17 Arellano Chiefs legend.
17:20 Would you imagine, Anton, this guy has been dropping triple doubles here in the NCAA
17:26 and going over to the professional league, right?
17:29 And how small, how tall is Gio Jalalod, right?
17:34 Getting rebounds, getting steals, assists.
17:37 And of course, his brother, Jericho, is supporting him.
17:40 Jericho Jalalod was also from Arellano, but in high school.
17:47 And now, changing colors.
17:49 Good pick-up for Coach Charles Tew.
17:52 And he's getting some minutes here.
17:54 [crowd cheering]
17:56 I remember that time, JV, it was the golden era of players who could average a triple double.
18:03 You had Giovanni Jalalod, Scottie Thompson, and then later on, Bonquito was also a triple double threat.
18:10 Robert Pollock also flirting with a couple of times a triple double.
18:16 Naive.
18:22 Magugliano, you can see how much in better shape Magugliano is this season.
18:29 That's why he's averaging a double double.
18:32 The only player who's scoring and rebounding double doubles.
18:37 Last year, I think it was Wills.
18:39 Another one for King Gurtiza.
18:45 They're really shooting the lights out here from EAC.
18:51 At the same time, the execution is really good.
18:53 No one is being shot at, and they're just running, running their plays.
18:57 The screens are really good, that's why the shooters are free.
18:59 Especially given to Marcos.
19:03 McCoy.
19:05 Marcos gets the ball back.
19:08 Marcos.
19:11 Sacco.
19:14 Sacco.
19:16 Dangerous pass, but it will stay with Benil.
19:21 #Spotted Chris Flores, and of course, volleyball superstar Cici Rodina.
19:27 First, we wish a speedy recovery and all the best to Chris Flores.
19:34 Unfortunately, that ACL injury.
19:37 Robbie Naive hits a three.
19:40 We were covering that game, the man injures Chris, and he had to be carried out.
19:48 Just a freak accident.
19:50 Hopefully, he's better now.
19:53 Jericho Jalalon.
19:58 I want to see if he has the same speed as his brother.
20:03 Actually, eventually, we're going to see it for sure as he gets his feet wet here at NCAA Season 99.
20:15 Obviously, Jericho is playing under Coach Charles' system, which was very different from Coach Jericho Di Niera's system, where there was a lot of running.
20:25 So, he's speeding his way, the young Jalalon.
20:30 That's a good point, because during the time of Gio, he's a one-man pressing team.
20:37 So, if you leave your point guard with Gio, you'll be nervous.
20:40 It's going to be a hard time for your point guard.
20:44 But you can see Jericho's physique, the length of his body.
20:48 Meanwhile, Robbie Naive at the buzzer, asking for a foul.
20:54 What a finish to the first period.
20:58 And what a play call.
21:01 Just give the ball to the captain.
21:05 He called his own number.
21:13 I think they're checking the time here.
21:15 Or maybe not.
21:18 That's a great shot by Robbie Naive to end his first quarter.
21:22 I would say it's clear that he got the shot off.
21:25 So, I don't know if this is the official tally, 19-15.
21:30 We will come back for the second period. You're watching NCAA Season 99 on GTV.
