Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick says the UK government is working to secure a safe passage for British nationals to leave Gaza through the Rafah crossing, as well as ensuring humanitarian aid can enter Gaza. 00:00 At the moment we're working both to get British nationals out, and we haven't yet been able
00:04 to secure that, and to get humanitarian aid in.
00:08 It's absolutely critical we get those supplies into Gaza to support Palestinians living in
00:14 Gaza.
00:15 And I don't think it should be the first instinct of the British government to create an immigration
00:20 solution to a humanitarian crisis.
00:23 What we should be doing is using our diplomatic heft, which we are, and our international
00:28 development aid budget to support as many people as possible.
00:32 And that's what we want to do.
00:34 We're considering what more we might be able to do on the humanitarian side, and we'll
00:37 be saying more about that in the coming days.
00:39 We're keeping close contact with the British nationals who are in Gaza, and we're seeking
00:45 a safe passage for them through the Rafah crossing.
00:48 We're working very closely with Egypt.
00:50 We appreciate some of the concerns that they have and the difficult situation they find
00:55 themselves in.
00:56 But it's really critical now that we do get those nationals out so they can come to a
01:01 place of safety.
01:02 The best advice for British nationals in Gaza is to register with the Foreign Office and
01:07 to remain in close contact.
