00:00 Combining the talents of relative unknowns with powerhouse names in the industry has
00:04 been the Star Wars tactic since way back in 1977.
00:07 And it's worked pretty well for the most part.
00:10 So much so that some actors have been brought back to play multiple characters.
00:14 Some of these made perfect sense in a world of clones, while others were able to get away
00:18 with portraying multiple characters thanks to having their faces covered by masks, CGI
00:23 or veiled behind an animated character.
00:26 In the very face of the franchise, the man behind one of the most famous characters in
00:30 all of science fiction history got away with playing a few more characters without most
00:34 people initially realising.
00:36 As did everyone's favourite droids.
00:37 I'm Andrew from What Culture Star Wars and here's 10 actors who have played multiple
00:42 Star Wars characters.
00:43 Number 10, Kenny Baker.
00:45 Of the Star Wars duo that could genuinely be labelled as two of the most famous robots
00:50 in history, one has grown for itself something of a reputation as being quite annoying, while
00:55 no one could have a bad word to say about the other.
00:58 Rather than just an assistant of sorts to the likes of the Jedi and the Resistance,
01:02 R2-D2 has many times been a hero in its own right.
01:06 Played by Kenny Baker throughout both the original and prequel trilogies, the droid
01:10 has become incredibly popular over the years.
01:13 R2-D2 wasn't a CGI creation though of course.
01:15 Kenny Baker, at 3 foot 8 tall, literally wore the droid essentially as a costume and the
01:21 character was utilised again in a similar way in The Empire Strikes Back and Return
01:25 of the Jedi.
01:26 However, not only did Kenny Baker play R2-D2 in Return of the Jedi, he also brought to
01:31 life Paklu, one of the many Ewoks who aided Han Solo and co on the forest moon of Endor.
01:38 Number 9, Anthony Daniels.
01:40 There are only two Star Wars characters that have appeared in all nine of the Skywalker
01:44 Saga movies, though even fewer actors have achieved that same recognition.
01:49 R2-D2 has appeared in every Star Wars movie but Solo, though the droid was not brought
01:54 to life by Kenny Baker in the sequel trilogy.
01:56 C-3PO on the other hand, he's been right next to R2 throughout the Skywalker Saga and
02:01 Rogue One and has also been portrayed by Anthony Daniels at every single turn.
02:06 This even stretches as far as The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
02:11 The only movie that Anakin Skywalker's homemade android hasn't appeared in is Solo.
02:16 However, that doesn't mean that Daniels didn't appear in that film.
02:19 In fact, the actor appeared in Solo, a Star Wars story without the usual gold outer shell,
02:24 as Tak, a Coruscant native who found himself working as a slave in the spice mines on Kessel.
02:30 Even this wasn't the first non-droid character played by Anthony Daniels in Star Wars, as
02:34 the actor can also be seen during the early stages of Attack of the Clones when Anakin
02:39 and Obi-Wan are chasing Padme's would-be assassin, Sam Vessel, through Coruscant's
02:43 gritty underbelly.
02:45 Number 8, Jeremy Bullock.
02:47 Ever since making his franchise debut, Boba Fett has become something of a cult hero to
02:52 many, many Star Wars fans.
02:54 The character was barely in The Empire Strikes Back, he spoke barely any lines of dialogue,
02:58 yet fans still loved him.
03:01 Though the most famous bounty hunter in the galaxy has risen to even more prominence in
03:04 recent years thanks to his portrayal in The Mandalorian and the book of Boba Fett by Tamara
03:08 Morrison, an actor who we'll get to later on this list, Tamara Morrison wasn't the
03:12 original person under the bow mask.
03:14 It would be impossible to tell, thanks to the iconic green Mandalorian helmet, but the
03:18 man who originally portrayed Boba Fett was Jeremy Bullock.
03:22 Though he had a long career that spanned many years, Bullock's Star Wars appearances were
03:26 by far the highest profile credits to his name, which didn't just end with Boba Fett.
03:31 In Revenge of the Sith, Jeremy Bullock had a cameo appearance as Captain Colton, the
03:35 pilot who brought Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda back to Coruscant with Senator Organa.
03:40 That was after the clones turned against the Jedi at Palpatine's Order, Order 66 of course.
03:45 With a name like Jeremoc Colton, it's hard to imagine that this character wasn't named
03:50 with Jeremy Bullock in mind.
03:55 Many of the actors on this list became initially famous in one Star Wars role, and were then
03:59 brought back in some capacity in further films.
04:02 Either that, or they just so happened to be a perfect clone of their original character
04:06 that only they could ever play.
04:08 Again, more on Tamara Morrison later.
04:10 Silas Carson however is different.
04:12 In his first appearance in A Galaxy Far Far Away, the English actor played no fewer than
04:16 four roles.
04:18 The Phantom Menace introduced so many new characters to the franchise, and apparently
04:22 there just weren't enough actors to portray them all.
04:24 So two of Carson's four characters there were very minor that you likely wouldn't
04:28 even recognise their names.
04:30 Lock Dodd, the Senator of the Trail Federation, and Antidar Williams, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's
04:35 pilot at the beginning of the movie.
04:37 They were brought to life by Silas Carson.
04:39 But these roles were nothing compared to his other two roles in that film.
04:43 Across all three prequel trilogy movies, Carson was one of the key antagonists, as well as
04:48 also playing a Jedi Master, as in his roles here were Newt Gumray and also Ki-Adi-Mundi.
04:55 The actor also returned to these two roles in 2022, voicing both of those characters
05:00 in the Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga video game.
05:03 Warwick Davis Warwick Davis has a history of playing multiple
05:08 characters in the same movie franchise.
05:10 Thanks to the heavy make-up effects, the English actor was able to portray both Professor Flitwick
05:15 and Griphook the Goblin throughout Harry Potter.
05:18 But that is nothing compared to Warwick's Star Wars career.
05:21 It would almost be too much effort to list every Star Wars movie Warwick Davis has appeared
05:26 in, but hey, here goes anyway.
05:28 You've got Return of the Jedi, The Phantom Menace, The Force Awakens, Rogue One, The
05:33 Last Jedi, Solo A Star Wars Story, and The Rise of Skywalker.
05:38 That's an astonishing 7 out of the 11 Star Wars movies to date, across which Warwick
05:43 Davis has played 10 different characters, starting all the way back in 1983 when he
05:50 portrayed Wicket the Ewok, when Warwick was just 13 years of age.
05:54 Even outside the movies, Lucasfilm has utilised Warwick Davis.
05:57 In the fourth season of Rebels, he played Rook, one of General Admiral Thrawn's bodyguards,
06:02 and if his history with a Star Wars franchise is anything to go by, it's highly unlikely
06:07 Warwick Davis won't be featured again in the future at some point.
06:10 Number 5, Carrie Fisher You'd be forgiven for thinking that in a
06:14 list like this, every performance would have to come within the Star Wars franchise.
06:18 And for the most part, that's true.
06:20 The only exception, though, is Carrie Fisher, thanks to a certain homage to the Star Wars
06:25 franchise by Seth MacFarlane.
06:27 Of course, Fisher was renowned and beloved by all in her role as General Leia Organa
06:32 across the original and sequel trilogies, and became no less than iconic in that role.
06:38 However, thanks to Carrie's recurring role in Family Guy as Peter's boss Angela, she
06:42 was able to bring a different character to life.
06:45 In 2007, Family Guy produced a parody of A New Hope called Blue Harvest, that cast Chris
06:50 Griffin as Luke Skywalker, Peter and Brian as Han and Chewie, and Stewie as Darth Vader.
06:56 Naturally, as the most important female character in the series, Lois Griffin played the role
07:00 of Princess Leia.
07:02 Even in spite of Carrie Fisher herself being a part of the Family Guy cast.
07:06 On the plus side, this freed Fisher up to play one of the few other female characters
07:10 in the movie, that being Mon Mothma.
07:12 She may only have had a couple of lines of dialogue, but it was enough to send those
07:16 fans in the middle of the Star Wars/Family Guy Venn diagram absolutely crazy.
07:21 Number 4, Dee Bradley Baker It's the nature of animated shows to typically
07:25 employ voice actors for more than one role.
07:28 They are talented enough to bring several different characters to life, without making
07:32 them sound even remotely similar.
07:34 Star Wars The Clone Wars for example, was able to boast the likes of Kevin Michael Richardson,
07:38 Tom Kane, Phil Lamarr and more to bring to life plenty of different characters.
07:43 And all of those names would be worthy inclusions on this list.
07:46 However, there is one name who stands out from the rest.
07:50 Instead of making his character sound completely different in bringing every clone trooper
07:53 to life in the series, Dee Bradley Baker had the task of playing countless roles with exactly
07:59 the same voice, all while still bringing to the table a certain personality and subtle
08:04 difference to each and every one of these characters.
08:07 Of course, this is no easy task, yet Dee Bradley Baker absolutely nailed it.
08:12 Aside from the likes of Cody and Rex, as well as countless other clones in The Clone Wars,
08:16 the actor's talents have taken him to the front and centre, voicing every member of
08:20 the titular team in the Bad Batch, from the standard clone voices of Hunter and Echo,
08:24 to more varied iterations of the same voice with Wrecker, Tech and Crosshair.
08:29 Dee Bradley Baker's work in the Star Wars franchise is absolutely astonishing.
08:34 Number 3, Temora Morrison The clone troopers have been brought to life
08:38 exceptionally well throughout The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, but what about in live
08:42 action?
08:43 Based on the bounty hunter, Jango Fett, every clone, from the Kamino scenes in Attack of
08:48 the Clones and through Revenge of the Sith, was played by Temora Morrison.
08:52 While the clones themselves were only in a handful of scenes, unable to go into the depths
08:55 of their characters in the same way that the animated series did, it was Jango Fett that
09:00 was Morrison's first major role in Star Wars.
09:03 Years later, he would add to this, however.
09:05 Remember, the bounty hunter's one demand to allow a clone army to be bred from his
09:09 DNA was to have an unaltered clone for his own.
09:13 A son, essentially, that would grow up to look identical to him in every single way,
09:17 which is why it was a no-brainer to bring Morrison back for The Mandalorian and The
09:22 Book of Boba Fett.
09:24 As Boba Fett himself, the most legendary bounty hunter in the galaxy, had appeared fleetingly
09:29 in the original series, as played by Jeremy Bullock.
09:32 However, he never revealed the face beneath his helmet, thus allowing Morrison to continue
09:37 the character and keep the continuity as realistic as physically possible.
09:42 Number 2, Andy Serkis There was a time, up until very recently
09:46 in fact, that when you heard the name Andy Serkis, you would instinctively associate
09:51 him with the CGI characters he had brought to life over the years.
09:55 In fairness, that is understandable, as he has mastered this craft like few others, joining
10:00 the likes of Gollum, King Kong, Caesar, and more in the long line of characters brought
10:05 to life by Serkis was Supreme Leader Snoke.
10:08 The seemingly new Big Bad appeared as a hologram in The Force Awakens, before a larger role
10:13 came in The Last Jedi, a role that ultimately, though, saw Snoke unceremoniously killed.
10:18 Thankfully, this wouldn't be the last fans saw of the incredibly talented Andy Serkis
10:22 in the Star Wars universe.
10:23 In recent years, Serkis has been showing his actual face more often while acting, and this
10:28 was no different when he showed up opposite Diego Luna in Disney+'s Andor.
10:33 These days, it's almost impossible to keep any kind of casting a true secret, particularly
10:38 in Star Wars.
10:39 And if there is no official confirmation, fans usually have a good idea of who will
10:43 be showing up and where they will be showing up.
10:46 With Andy Serkis' return as Keno Light in Andor, however, this was one of the few genuinely
10:51 well-kept secrets, something that made his brilliant appearance even better.
10:55 Number 1 - Mark Hamill
10:57 There are countless iconic characters and names associated with the Star Wars franchise,
11:02 but no matter how you look at it, even next to the likes of Harrison Ford's Han Solo
11:06 or Carrie Fisher's Leia Organa, Mark Hamill and Luke Skywalker are always at the top of
11:11 the tree.
11:12 Hamill portrayed Skywalker through the original trilogy, and in both episodes 7 and 8, but
11:17 his unparalleled voice acting skills have come in handy on more than one occasion.
11:22 Four more names can be credited to the voice of the face of the Star Wars franchise, though
11:27 there are many more that may never be truly discovered.
11:30 It was an iconic Star Wars moment when Luke returned to screens at the conclusion of the
11:34 second season of The Mandalorian, but Mark Hamill had in fact portrayed E.V.
11:39 99, the bartender droid in Mos Eisley, back in the fifth ever episode of The Mandalorian.
11:45 Add this to appearances as Dovus Kaye, a rather forgettable character, admittedly, met by
11:50 Finn and Rose on Kanto Bight in The Last Jedi, there was Bulio, another forgettable alien
11:55 who was killed by Kylo Ren during the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and Darth Bane,
12:00 the Sith Lord who created the Rule of Two in The Clone Wars.
12:05 And you have a surprisingly wide Star Wars CV for Mark Hamill, or William M. Patrick
12:10 as the movie credits would have you believe.
12:12 So this has been our 10 actors who have played multiple Star Wars characters.
