00:00 So look, yeah, obviously disappointed with the loss.
00:07 I do think there were some things that I saw in the game that was good to see.
00:13 I thought our offense kind of responded there in the second half.
00:17 I think right now, I think our team is too inconsistent right now.
00:20 And that's what's causing us problems.
00:29 So we'll have to work to get that corrected.
00:33 We got ten days to get it done.
00:35 So yeah, so I'll answer your questions.
00:41 >> Dennis, what did you see on the one, the Christian card,
00:43 the one that turned out to be the game winner?
00:45 >> Yeah, look, we were in a quarter's coverage and
00:49 guy ran a good route on Tyron.
00:52 And sometimes that can happen in that coverage.
00:57 You kind of get drained on the other side of the field.
01:00 That's what I saw.
01:03 I didn't see the finish and where everybody else was.
01:06 I saw the route.
01:07 I was watching that because I kind of thought that might be something that
01:12 they would do.
01:13 And look, he ran a really good route and won.
01:19 >> Dave, what goes into the decision, either when it comes to using or
01:22 not using Jimmy Graham in the red zone?
01:26 >> Yeah, look, it's a staff decision in terms of what we do.
01:30 So I think anytime you're not successful down there,
01:33 everybody's gonna wanna know why you didn't do something else.
01:38 And look, valid question, but that was just,
01:43 we had the plan going in and that was the plan.
01:46 >> DA, obviously the hurry up helped inject some life into the offense.
01:50 >> Yeah. >> But three of 18 on third down.
01:52 >> No, look, I thought third down was a big down in the game.
01:56 You're not gonna win a lot of games if you're not able to convert on third down.
02:04 We were able to convert some fourth downs.
02:06 But that area has to be better.
02:14 Obviously, we didn't finish in the red zone as well as we would have.
02:19 But if you're 50% in the red zone in the National Football League,
02:23 you're gonna end up being one of the better red zone teams.
02:25 So there was some improvement there.
02:27 And yet I still think there's some things that we can be better at.
02:30 I mean, I think there are some opportunities there that we just missed on.
02:35 So I think we're a lot closer, but we're still not there yet.
02:39 And we're gonna keep grinding until we get there.
02:40 >> Is this a kind of a natural time to take a-
02:44 >> Yeah, there's a good little reset here.
02:47 I told the team in there, it's a good little reset.
02:51 And so we'll reset and we'll evaluate a lot of different things
02:57 over the next four or five days as we're starting to get into our next opponent.
03:06 And we'll figure out how we can play a little better and be more consistent.
03:12 I think that's if I had one word to say in terms of where we're at as a team,
03:18 it's just we're a little inconsistent.
03:20 And that's the challenge.
03:26 We gotta become a more consistent football team.
03:29 >> [INAUDIBLE]
03:32 >> I thought the offensive line,
03:33 I thought overall held up pretty good.
03:36 I thought for
03:39 Andrews Pete not to have played left tackle in a long time.
03:43 I think, I mean, I heard this morning it was 2018.
03:46 So I thought he did a good job.
03:50 I thought Cam Irving stepped in and did a nice job at right tackle.
03:55 Obviously Max Garcia playing at left guard for us.
03:58 So I thought our offensive line overall, I thought they did a pretty good job.
04:03 >> You guys tried to go to that fade a couple times in the red zone.
04:06 What is it about that play that you-
04:07 >> Yeah, look, I mean,
04:09 I think there's times where that can be a good play.
04:14 And obviously we didn't execute it.
04:16 And certainly if we had, we'd be feeling differently, but we didn't get it done.
04:23 >> Were there things you did beyond just up tempo that sort of kick started
04:26 the offense from the halfway through the third quarter on?
04:31 >> Say it again, I'm sorry.
04:31 >> Were there things you did besides just going a little bit more up tempo that you
04:35 could identify that helped kind of jumpstart the offense?
04:39 >> No, I mean, that was kind of the one thing that we kind of talked about.
04:42 Probably midway through the third quarter, we just said, hey, look,
04:47 let's get into some up tempo and see if we can kind of jumpstart this thing a little
04:52 bit, and we did, and I thought our guys executed.
04:58 And I mean, look,
05:03 that was probably the most positive I could take out of what we did.
05:08 Offensively, we found a little something that,
05:11 now you can't live in that all game, every game.
05:15 You have to be able to do some other things, but
05:18 it's nice to know that if you have to get to that, you can get to it.
05:21 >> When you're running tempo like that,
05:22 is it mostly Derrick kind of setting things at the line?
05:25 >> Yeah, there's a lot of that that goes on in a two minute drive.
05:29 I mean, there's constant communication going on.
05:32 And yet there's some plays there that he's
05:37 seeing the defense and trying to get us to the best play.
05:41 >> Has Lou Hadley been consistent enough?
05:43 >> No, I think he's gotta be more consistent.
05:45 Yeah, I can say that about a lot of our guys,
05:51 that we have to be more consistent.
05:54 So, but yeah, I think there's a lot of guys that need to be more consistent.
06:00 >> Was that 39 yard line you think?
06:02 I mean, that's kind of topping that.
06:03 >> Is that the last one?
06:04 >> Yeah. >> Yeah, we need a better kick there.
06:07 >> It seemed like there were a few more cases where Derrick and
06:13 the receiver didn't see eye to eye.
06:15 I mean, how frustrating is it after- >> Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:18 I think that's frustrating.
06:20 That's probably one of the things that I'm most frustrated about is just,
06:27 that's part of that inconsistency.
06:29 And so we've gotta, I mean, somehow,
06:35 some way we gotta get those guys on the same page.
06:37 And there's a lot that goes into that.
06:42 >> And I know people love to parse words when you say a little inconsistent.
06:45 I mean, do you not find the offense to be at almost like an extremely critical point
06:50 after a couple, like at this point?
06:51 >> Well, I certainly think that we need to be better.
06:56 And again, I think the last couple weeks,
07:01 we've been able to do a lot of good things.
07:05 And yet there's gonna be a handful of plays in the game that
07:10 potentially could be the difference makers in the game.
07:14 And that's where we have to be better.
07:18 So.
07:23 >> That was what changed defensively for you after their first couple of drives
07:27 when they had really good drives.
07:28 What did you guys do differently?
07:29 >> Yeah, not a lot.
07:33 There's a couple things that we changed up.
07:39 I mean, I thought they did a good job early on with some gadget plays and
07:45 things of that nature that ended up getting some yards.
07:49 I thought overall, I thought we did a good job of stopping their run game.
07:53 We have to do a better job of not letting the freaking quarterback scramble.
07:58 We have to do a better job of that.
08:00 That was probably the thing defensively that was the black eye on the whole thing.
08:05 When you look at their rushing yards and what they were able to do rushing,
08:09 a majority of that was the quarterback running the ball.
08:14 So that has to be better.
08:18 And so, and I thought early on, I thought we didn't quite,
08:23 look, I don't think we were as consistent defensively.
08:25 I don't think we executed quite as good as we needed to.
08:28 I think they beat us on a couple of plays that I would have liked to seen us do better.
08:37 So, Yeah, so
08:42 we probably got to maybe a little bit more coverage as the game wore on.
08:49 It kind of got into a mode where they really were trying to throw the ball,
08:52 it seemed like a little bit, but so.
08:55 >> Not take advantage of those two turnovers early, how frustrating was that?
09:00 >> Yeah, look, that's frustrating.
09:01 I mean, it's frustrating that again,
09:04 we get in a situation where we miss another kick.
09:09 And that's disappointing.
09:12 It's two plus 50s.
09:14 I think we got to look at that a little bit, and how.
09:20 But yet, I think that can be the case sometimes with a young kicker,
09:25 there's gonna be a little bit of growing pains there.
09:30 So, yeah, I would have liked to have seen us take advantage of the two early
09:36 takeaways.
09:38 >> Dennis, how do you feel like Derek played overall tonight?
09:42 >> I would say much like I've said about a lot of our guys on our team.
09:46 I think there's some things that he did really well.
09:49 I think there was a little bit of inconsistency.
09:52 And I think that overall is, that's part of the group.
10:02 You know what I mean?
10:02 Like, I think each and every one of us individually needs to be more consistent.
10:07 And I think if we're able to do that,
10:09 then collectively as a group we'll be more consistent.
10:11 >> What are some of the things he could do to be more consistent?
10:15 I mean, it starts with him on offense, right?
10:17 When you talk about the communication.
10:18 >> Yeah, we're not gonna try to point fingers at anybody.
10:21 We all gotta be better.
10:24 >> Do you see inconsistencies or something that can be fixed pretty easily?
10:29 Or do you think it's a harder task to get everybody on the same page?
10:35 >> Well, I think that's something that we're gonna continue to work on.
10:40 So, you know.
10:41 >> Seem like from our vantage point there were a couple times before plays were run
10:46 where it looked like Derek might have been kind of trying to communicate with
10:49 the sideline.
10:50 Were there some communication issues at all with anything going on there?
10:53 >> No.
10:54 >> Was he feeling something late in the game as he went down the sideline?
10:59 >> Yeah, he got hit in an area.
11:02 >> One more.
11:04 >> All right guys, thanks.
