00:00 Yeah, very, very difficult to watch, as you can imagine.
00:03 The Israeli army invited journalists
00:05 to a screening of raw footage of those massacres carried out
00:09 on October the 7th.
00:11 They put together a 45-minute video compiled
00:14 from hundreds of hours, they said, of footage
00:17 from dash cams, body cams worn by members of Hamas,
00:21 body cams from first responders, mobile phone footage.
00:24 And very, very distressing images, indeed.
00:28 I think one piece of footage that really marked people
00:31 sitting and watching in the auditorium
00:34 showed a father running and carrying his two sons
00:38 in a kibbutz to a shelter.
00:40 And then the father was killed.
00:46 The two sons run back to the kitchen.
00:50 And you can hear them screaming in the kitchen,
00:52 on the footage, asking why they're alive,
00:56 where is their mom, where is their dad.
00:59 And in the meantime, their father's killer
01:01 is stood next to them, helping himself
01:03 to drinks from the fridge.
01:05 So very, very surreal, very awful scenes.
01:10 We were also shown audio, an audio recording
01:13 of a member of Hamas using a phone,
01:17 the phone of a dead Jewish woman,
01:18 to call his parents in the Gaza Strip
01:22 to boast about how many people he'd killed.
01:26 So a lot of loud gasps in the auditorium, crying,
01:30 and a lot of people just simply unable to watch.
01:33 As you say, difficult for you to watch that footage, Andrew.
01:38 I'm interested, though, why you think
01:40 the Israeli army decided to show journalists
01:43 like yourself these videos.
01:44 It's a good question.
01:49 I mean, the Israeli army spokesperson, Daniel Hagari,
01:53 he spoke just before showing the footage.
01:56 He said that he wanted to show people who they were fighting.
02:02 He said that after October 7th, something had changed.
02:04 The nature of the enemy had changed.
02:07 But in a nutshell, this is really about, I think,
02:09 the battle for public opinion, not here in Israel, of course,
02:12 but around the world.
02:14 It's been two weeks since those massacres.
02:17 And since then, of course, Israel
02:19 has responded with heavy bombardments in the Gaza Strip.
02:22 We've seen and heard of Palestinian civilians,
02:26 innocent Palestinian civilians, being killed, of course.
02:29 We've seen and heard the pictures and the testimony.
02:31 But I think Israel wants us not to forget, of course,
02:34 what they suffered, too, on October 7th,
02:37 with the horrific scenes that we saw once again today.
