00:00 In 1995, a young boy named Louis has just lost his parents, and his uncle Jonathan writes a letter inviting Louis to live with him.
00:08 Louis has arrived at the last stop, and his uncle Jonathan appears.
00:12 He helps Louis with his luggage and complains about its weight.
00:16 Louis says it's dictionaries that are in the bag and that he loves new words.
00:20 The boy wants to watch Captain Midnight by 10, but Jonathan says he doesn't have a TV.
00:26 They stop walking when the bell from a large copula lined with walls starts sounding, and Jonathan glares at the building until it stops.
00:34 They hop into a rickety car and arrive at a spooky house.
00:37 Louis sees Jack-o'-lanterns and asks Jonathan if he loves Halloween a lot.
00:42 Jonathan says he keeps that all year round, and when they're about to step into the gates, a woman calls Jonathan back.
00:49 The woman is Mrs. Hanchette, Jonathan's neighbor.
00:51 She asks if he went playing his saxophone, but Jonathan retorts that the art isn't for everyone.
00:57 Mrs. Hanchette tells him that she really doesn't care what he plays, only the fact that he plays at 3 a.m. in the morning.
01:04 She asks who Louis is, and is surprised that Jonathan is responsible for keeping another human alive.
01:11 Jonathan promised to keep it down, but admits that 3 a.m. is his best jamming hour.
01:16 Louis enters the house and is awed by a display of different clocks tick-tocking together.
01:21 He tells Jonathan that that is a lot of clocks, but the latter says it is just the right amount.
01:26 Louis is startled by the sound of rustling, and Jonathan tells him it's from a deranged cuckoo.
01:31 A slender woman steps out of a door, and Jonathan introduces her as his next-door neighbor, Mrs. Zimmerman.
01:38 And while the two bicker, Louis feels strange energies around the house.
01:42 Jonathan tells him he can have cookies for dinner, and encourages him to let go of all the rules he's lived by.
01:48 After a while, Louis' sleep is disturbed by a loud metal clang.
01:52 He slips out of his room to see what's happening, and he sees Jonathan listening to the wall.
01:57 Suddenly, a figurine pops out of wall art, laughing maniacally at Louis.
02:02 But Louis runs to his room, scared as hell.
02:05 The next morning, Louis sees Jonathan and Zimmerman gossiping loudly about going into the wall.
02:11 Jonathan sends him off to school in a humorous way, that makes Louis suspect him.
02:15 At school, Louis joins a basketball team, but he's terrible at playing.
02:20 Later on, he plays cricket with another boy named Tarby, who tries to catch up with him.
02:25 He asks where Louis lives, and is surprised when he tells him.
02:29 Tarby then tells him that the house is haunted after a man died there.
02:33 After a while, Louis sees his mother, and she tells him about a book and a key.
02:38 And she says he's in danger.
02:39 When Louis asks what she's talking about, she asks if he can hear the ticking.
02:43 He turns to the wall, and that's when he wakes up.
02:46 Louis hears footsteps again, and he follows it.
02:49 He sees all the strange things in the house, and becomes scared.
02:53 And loses the footsteps, when he sees Jonathan pounding into a wall with an axe.
02:58 Louis runs to his room, and packs his things.
03:01 The picture on the wall tells him not to go, and a chair blocks his way to the door.
03:06 Louis starts banging on the door asking for help.
03:09 But Jonathan shows up behind him, and assures him that everything is okay.
03:13 Jonathan says he's not going to axe murder him.
03:16 And takes him into the library, to tell him the truth about himself.
03:20 Jonathan says he is a warlock, and the house was owned by another owner called Isaac and his wife Selena.
03:26 Isaac is a warlock too, and died a year ago.
03:29 But he lost his clock here, and tries to get it back.
03:32 Meanwhile, Louis begs Jonathan to teach him to be a warlock.
03:36 Jonathan hands some books to Louis, and asks him to finish those first.
03:40 Louis asks if he would have to defeat an evil spirit to become a warlock.
03:44 And Jonathan says not for a long time.
03:47 Suddenly, a purple spider pops out the door at that moment, and it scares them.
03:52 But Jonathan explains, that the spider belongs to Zimmerman, whose spells have been backfiring lately.
03:57 Jonathan warns Louis to open a particular cabinet, which is locked with spells no matter what.
04:03 And while Jonathan is reading a book on Isaac's life.
04:06 Zimmerman enters, and says that she scoured the crawl space, but didn't find the clock.
04:11 After a while, Tarby sees a group of girls mock Louis, because of his goggles.
04:16 So he tries to convince him to take them off.
04:19 Louis agrees, and that's when Jonathan shows up in his vehicle.
04:22 It's a full moon, and Louis first try at magic spells.
04:26 He flops his first try, but Jonathan tells him it's the attitude, that matters more than the spells.
04:32 Louis finds it weird, so Jonathan shows him something weirder.
04:35 He blows the saxophone, and it annoys the dogs in the neighborhood.
04:39 And when he's done, he points to the still water in a fountain and tells Louis to tap it.
04:44 But when he does, little stars whoosh out of it, and the sky is filled with a magical solar system.
04:50 Louis is enjoying the scene, until the garden lion shits on him.
04:54 Jonathan is about to leave Louis' room, when Louis asks why he never saw him until now.
05:00 Jonathan explains, that he was the black swan of the family,
05:03 since he didn't really get along with their father.
05:05 And Louis tells him that he thinks he's also a black swan.
05:09 Louis starts learning to use magic, and turns a caged cat's fur from white to rainbow colors.
05:14 He then makes Jonathan float in the air, and doesn't know how to reverse it.
05:18 Louis makes water rush from the tap, to an annoying kid's face.
05:22 And channels energy to the moving chair by mistake.
05:26 Meanwhile, Jonathan is worried about the clock on the wall.
05:29 But Zimmerman tries to assure him, that they'll find it, before it can harm Louis.
05:34 After a while, Louis' magic is now better.
05:37 He does everything with magic now like making his bed, and creating a TV for Captain Midnight.
05:42 Back to school, Tarby has won the elections, and isn't comfortable hanging out with Louis anymore.
05:48 But Louis convinces him to go home together, so that he can teach him magic tricks for his sports games.
05:54 And at home, Jonathan has figured out where the clock is.
05:57 He lifts the arm of a statue, and it opens up a secret passage in the mouth of a lion statue.
06:03 Jonathan follows the passage and it leads to a large room.
06:06 The giant structure in it, seems to be what's been making all those sounds at night.
06:11 Jonathan finds a chart on a table, and he's overjoyed.
06:14 Meanwhile, Louis is in the library with Tarby.
06:17 And is looking for a spell, to make a perfect shot with the curveball.
06:21 But Tarby stubbornly opens the forbidden cabinet, and brings out a spell book on necromancy.
06:27 Louis returns the book, and escorts Tarby out of the house.
06:30 And in the same time, Jonathan and Zimmerman figure out the meaning of an illustration on the chart that the former found.
06:37 Louis's mother shows up in his room again, and reminds him of the book.
06:41 She tells him that he can win Tarby over, if only he'd use the book.
06:45 The next day, Louis convinces Tarby to give him another chance at magic.
06:49 And this time, he promises to raise the dead.
06:52 Louis steals the book and goes to the cemetery to meet Tarby.
06:56 And the book leads them to the particular grave they should use.
06:59 Tarby gets comfortable in a corner, while Louis casts the spells.
07:03 But when the tomb shakes, he abandons Louis and runs away.
07:07 Louis also runs back home, replaces the book, and gets into bed.
07:11 The next day, Louis wakes up to discover that his spells aren't working anymore.
07:16 Jonathan sees all the statues gathered on the ground floor.
07:19 And they're all repeating, "He's back, he's coming home."
07:22 He hurries to the cemetery, and finds Isaac's tomb opened.
07:26 Jonathan tells Zimmerman to help him, since he can't face Isaac alone.
07:30 But she says she can't help him, and tells him to tell Louis the truth.
07:34 But Jonathan says he's only a boy.
07:36 She then says, she can still swing a hammer anyway.
07:40 They hit horseshoes into the front doorway, and Jonathan goes to get some more.
07:44 And sees, that the large wall painting has changed,
07:47 to an illustration of them all in separate coffins.
07:50 Louis is about to confess to Jonathan what he did.
07:53 But Zimmerman gets ahead of him, and says the perpetrator will be very sorry when they find him.
07:58 Louis doesn't tell them anymore,
08:00 and takes Jonathan's advice to stay with Mrs. Zimmerman for the time being.
08:04 At Zimmerman's house, Louis notices that she's unable to make magic sparks.
08:09 He sees a picture of a show, where Jonathan performed alongside Isaac.
08:13 She explains to him that Isaac and Jonathan used to be best friends,
08:17 until the former went to war in Germany, and returned a fiercer wizard.
08:21 He then abandoned Jonathan, and married a wicked witch named Selina.
08:25 She says they believe Isaac killed his wife,
08:28 to perform a blood ritual, to make a key out of human bone.
08:32 At school, Louis tries to talk to Tarby about what happened in the cemetery.
08:36 He says Jonathan is in big trouble because of them.
08:39 But Tarby tells him to pretend as if nothing happened,
08:42 and promises to break his arms, if he says anything.
08:45 He then punches Louis when he tries to resist.
08:48 Louis falls to the ground, and reads the word "Indomitable" from the open page.
08:53 He gets motivated and returns home to Jonathan.
08:56 Louis enters the library, and sees the chart on the table.
08:59 The doors close, and the books start flying around, hurting Louis.
09:03 He yells for help, and Zimmerman and Jonathan come running to him.
09:07 Zimmerman then gets the chart.
09:09 Louis tells them that he can read the chart, thanks to the show of Captain Midnight.
09:13 And with the help of some cards, Louis cracks the code.
09:17 Jonathan figures out that the clock is a doomsday clock, that will run everything backward.
09:22 And the people will get younger and younger, until they vanish.
09:25 They return home to find the house torn down from beginning to end.
09:29 Jonathan says Isaac was looking for the bone key, and they try to destroy it.
09:33 But it doesn't even melt.
09:35 Louis confesses to raising Isaac from the dead, but Jonathan is too angry.
09:39 And decides to send Louis home, despite the kid crying and begging.
09:43 Zimmerman assures Louis she'll talk Jonathan out of it, and asks him to wait downstairs.
09:49 She goes up to Jonathan and talks to him.
09:51 But Jonathan admits that he's scared for Louis.
09:54 And that their house is no place for a kid.
09:57 Zimmerman tells him not to abandon the kid, like the way he abandoned his little sister.
10:02 She means Louis' mother in her words.
10:04 After the discussion, she calls Jonathan a coward and leaves the room.
10:08 The sound of marmalade, Mrs. Hanchett's dog, yapping outside draws Louis' attention.
10:13 He sees Isaac in Mrs. Hanchett's house, and runs across to warn her.
10:18 And despite all her questions, he takes Mrs. Hanchett from her house into Jonathan's.
10:23 He calls for Jonathan and Zimmerman.
10:25 And as soon as they enter the house, Zimmerman is about to step out of the room.
10:29 But the door locks on its own.
10:31 And while Jonathan tries to open the door, Isaac knocks on the main door,
10:35 where Louis and Mrs. Hanchett are.
10:38 Louis tells Mrs. Hanchett to leave the door, but she doesn't listen to him.
10:42 She opens the door and Isaac steps in.
10:44 He says hi to them, and Mrs. Hanchett reveals, that she had been Selena all along.
10:50 And the dog marmalade turns into a rat.
10:52 Louis says he thought they both died,
10:55 but Selena reveals that the bone key was made from the actual Mrs. Hanchett's.
10:59 And that she didn't die.
11:01 She hid when Jonathan and Zimmerman came into the house, the night Isaac died.
11:05 Selena starts shaking her head again, and turns into Louis' mother.
11:09 Louis realizes that she's the one who used to come to his dreams.
11:13 She tells him that she couldn't get close to the cabinet, so she had to use him.
11:17 And Isaac tells him, that he has to get the key for them.
11:21 Meanwhile, Jonathan and Zimmerman make it out of the room.
11:24 They run to the secret hideout, and get into a trap set by Isaac.
11:28 Louis is suspended mid-air in a cage under,
11:31 which sharp blades await him should the cage be opened.
11:34 And above it, the rat is biting the rope until it snaps.
11:37 Isaac asks for the key in order to release Louis.
11:40 Tells them of his time in the Black Forest, and how he got his powers.
11:44 It turns out that Isaac didn't meet a witch, but Azazel the fourth prince of hell.
11:49 He tries to take the key from Jonathan's pocket with magic while blackmailing Zimmerman.
11:54 But she suddenly uses great magic to stop him.
11:57 She saves Louis, and stops Selena from taking the key.
12:01 Jonathan is about to take the key, but Isaac attacks him with a bright light.
12:05 Zimmerman saves him first, but Isaac gets the key and disappears with Selena.
12:10 The toys and jack-o'-lanterns chased the trio out of the house.
12:14 When Louis figures out where the hex is,
12:16 they hurry back and Zimmerman uses her magic to deal with the toys.
12:20 But she doesn't make it to the hex.
12:22 And Jonathan turns into a baby when he tries to open the clock.
12:26 So, Louis is the only one who can stop the clock now.
12:30 The magic ball tells him to say goodbye.
12:32 And when he does, he throws the ball into the clock.
12:35 It hooks and rewinds everything.
12:37 Louis saves the day, and Jonathan is back to being an adult.
12:41 And they manage to ruin Isaac and Selena forever.
