00:00 Germany's cabinet has approved a new legislation that could make it easier to deport undocumented
00:05 immigrants and unsuccessful asylum seekers.
00:08 The move comes as the country's shelters have been filling up in recent months due to a
00:13 large number of asylum seekers and more than one million Ukrainian refugees.
00:18 "In order to protect the basic right to asylum, we have to significantly limit irregular migration.
00:25 Those who do not have a residence permit must leave our country.
00:30 The number of deportations is already about 27% higher than in the previous year, but
00:37 there is still a significant need for action."
00:41 The bill would now have to go through the Bundestag for final approval.
00:44 Among other measures, the bill would enable searches for identification documents and
00:50 remove the obligation to inform people that they could be reported.
