Drone Attacks Injure Dozens of U.S. Military Personnel in Iraq and Syria

Drone attacks last week targeted U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria, injuring a total of two dozen American military personnel. On October 18th, at least two drones targeted the al-Tanf base in Syria, injuring 20 U.S. personnel. One drone was shot down. All wounded returned to duty. Also, on October 18th, two separate drone attacks struck the al-Asad base in Iraq, injuring four U.S. personnel. Drones were shot down but debris destroyed a hangar. All injured returned to duty. The Pentagon warns of the prospect for more significant escalation against U.S. forces in the region from Iranian proxy forces and ultimately from Iran itself. Al-Tanf base in Syria has been maintained by U.S. troops since 2018 to counter Iranian influence.
